This paper presents a radio resource block allocation optimization problem for cellular communications systems with users running delay-tolerant and real-time applications, generating elastic and inelastic traffic on the network and being modelled as logarithmic and sigmoidal utilities respectively. The optimization is cast under a utility proportional fairness framework aiming at maximizing the cellular systems utility whilst allocating users the resource blocks with an eye on application quality of service requirements and on the procedural temporal and computational efficiency. Ultimately, the sensitivity of the proposed modus operandi to the resource variations is investigated

International audienceThis paper aims to solve the Radio Resource Management (RRM) problem for Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) system in cellular network. We develop a flexible model to perform dynamic radio resource allocation for MBMS service by using metaheuristic approach. We conduct fitness landscape analysis to study the characteristics of the proposed model, which helps us to select appropriate search strategy. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than existing algorithms. Keywords: fitness landscape, metaheuristic approach, multimedia multicast, radio resource management

This paper presents a study on joint radio resource allocation and hybrid precoding in multicarrier massive multiple-input multiple-output communications for 5G cellular networks. In this paper, we present the resource allocation algorithm to maximize the proportional fairness (PF) spectral efficiency under the per subchannel power and the beamforming rank constraints. Two heuristic algorithms are designed. The proportional fairness hybrid beamforming algorithm provides the transmit precoder with a proportional fair spectral efficiency among users for the desired number of radio-frequency (RF) chains. Then, we transform the number of RF chains or rank constrained optimization problem into convex semidefinite programming (SDP) problem, which can be solved by standard techniques. Inspired by the formulated convex SDP problem, a low-complexity, two-step, PF-relaxed optimization algorithm has been provided for the formulated convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed suboptimal solution to the relaxed optimization problem is near-optimal for the signal-to-noise ratio SNR <= 10 dB and has a performance gap not greater than 2.33 b/s/Hz within the SNR range 0-25 dB. It also outperforms the maximum throughput and PF-based hybrid beamforming schemes for sum spectral efficiency, individual spectral efficiency, and fairness index

Base station coordination is considered as a promising technique to mitigate inter-cell interference and improve the cell-edge performance in cellular orthogonal frequency division multiple-access (OFDMA) networks. The problem to design an efficient radio resource allocation scheme for coordinated cellular OFDMA networks incorporating base station coordination has been only partially investigated. In this contribution, a novel radio resource allocation algorithm with universal frequency reuse is proposed to support base station coordinated transmission. Firstly, with the assumption of global coordination between all base station sectors in the network, a coordinated subchannel assignment algorithm is proposed. Then, by dividing the entire network into a number of disjoint coordinated clusters of base station sectors, a reduced-feedback algorithm for subchannel assignment is proposed for practical use. The utility function based on the user average throughput is used to balance the efficiency and fairness of wireless resource allocation. System level simulation results demonstrate that the reduced-feedback subchannel assignment algorithm significantly improves the cell-edge average throughput and the fairness index of users in the network, with acceptable degradation of cell-average performance

PhDAdding relay stations (RS) between the base station (BS) and the mobile stations (MS) in a cellular system can extend network coverage, overcome multi-path fading and increase the capacity of the system. This thesis considers the radio resource allocation scheme in relay based cellular networks to ensure high-speed and reliable communication. The goal of this research is to investigate user fairness, system throughput and power consumption in wireless relay networks through considering how best to manage the radio resource. This thesis proposes a two-hop proportional fairness (THPF) scheduling scheme fair allocation, which is considered both in the first time subslot between direct link users and relay stations, and the second time subslot among relay link users. A load based relay selection algorithm is also proposed for a fair resource allocation. The transmission mode (direct transmission mode or relay transmission mode) of each user will be adjusted based on the load of the transmission node. Power allocation is very important for resource efficiency and system performance improvement and this thesis proposes a two-hop power allocation algorithm for energy efficiency, which adjusts the transmission power of the BS and RSs to make the data rate on the two hop links of one RS match each other. The power allocation problem of multiple cells with inter-cell interference is studied. A new multi-cell power allocation scheme is proposed from non-cooperative game theory; this coordinates the inter-cell interference and operates in a distributed manner. The utility function can be designed for throughput improvement and user fairness respectively. Finally, the proposed algorithms in this thesis are combined, and the system performance is evaluated. The joint radio resource allocation algorithm can achieve a very good tradeoff between throughput and user fairness, and also can significantly improve energy efficiency
