GiD 2008. 4th Conference on advances and applications of GiD

    Get PDF
The extended use of simulation programs has leaned on the advances in user-friendly interfaces and in the capability to generate meshes for any generic complex geometry. More than ten years of development have made Gid grow to become one of the more popular pre ans postprocessing systems at international level. The constant dialogue between the GiD development team and the users has guided the development of giD to cover the pre-post needs of many disciplines in science and engineering. Following gthis philosophy, the biannual GiD Conference has become an important forum for discussion and interchange of experiences among the GiD community. This monograph includes the contributions of the participants to the fourth edition of the GiD Conference held in the island of Ibiza from 8-9 May 2008

A Reduced Differential Model of the Electrical Activity of Cardiac Purkinje Fibres

    Get PDF
A reduced order differential model of cardiac Purkinje fibres action potential, with only eight state variables, is presented. Its structure, derived from basic physical principles can be used for the main other cardiac cell types, a useful property for some model-based signal or image processing applications. The electrical activity of cardiac Purkinje fibres is reconstructed using particular values of the parameters. This model of the membrane excitation mechanism and intracellular calcium dynamics describes the principal ionic current underlying autorhythmicity; calcium uptake and release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum; effects of the binding of calcium on myoplasmic proteins which affect the Nernst potential of calcium, and then the membrane potential. The model allows realistic modelling of cardiac Purkinje fibres action potential, total ionic current, CICR dependence on intracellular calcium concentrations. Simulations illustrate the role of the inward sodium current as the dominant mechanism underlying pacemaker depolarization during spontaneous activity

Asclepios: a Research Project-Team at INRIA for the Analysis and Simulation of Biomedical Images

    Get PDF
International audienceAsclepios1 is the name of a research project-team o cially launched on November 1st, 2005 at INRIA Sophia-Antipolis, to study the Analysis and Simulation of Biological and Medical Images. This research project-team follows a previous one, called Epidaure, initially dedicated to Medical Imaging and Robotics research. These two project teams were strongly supported by Gilles Kahn, who used to have regular scienti c in- teractions with their members. More generally, Gilles Kahn had a unique vision of the growing importance of the interaction of the Information Technologies and Sciences with the Biological and Medical world. He was one of the originators of the creation of a speci c BIO theme among the main INRIA research directions, which now regroups 16 di fferent research teams including Asclepios, whose research objectives are described and illustrated in this article

Convergence Analysis of a Projection Semi-Implicit Coupling Scheme for Fluid-Structure Interaction Problems

    Get PDF
In this paper, we provide a convergence analysis of a projection semi-implicit scheme for the simulation of fluid-structure systems involving an incompressible viscous fluid. The error analysis is performed on a fully discretized linear coupled problem: a finite element approximation and a semi-implicit time-stepping strategy are respectively used for space and time discretization. The fluid is described by the Stokes equations, the structure by the classical linear elastodynamics equations and all changes of geometry are neglected. We derive an error estimate in finite time and we prove that the time discretization error for the coupling scheme is at least δt\sqrt{\delta t}. Finally, some numerical experiments that confirm the theoretical analysis are presented

International audienceIn this paper, we provide a convergence analysis of a projection semi- implicit scheme for the simulation of fluid-structure systems involving an incom- pressible viscous fluid. The error analysis is performed on a fully discretized linear coupled problem: a finite element approximation and a semi-implicit time-stepping strategy are respectively used for space and time discretization. The fluid is described by the Stokes equations, the structure by the classical linear elastodynamics equations (linearized elasticity, plate or shell models) and all changes of geometry are neglected. We derive an error estimate in finite time and we prove that the time discretization error of the coupling scheme is of order 1/2. Finally, some numerical experiments that confirm the theoretical analysis are presented
