Increased need for software products, increased prices, delivery times and maintenance items determine the quality process.Just software is no longer considered part of monitoring process, but part of the development and improvement in the development process of firm. There are models for quality management and measurement, one of them is the CMMI. CMMI model is a systematic and comprehensive description of the maturity of software processes, and as such invaluable assistance and to all organizations that have reached the level of awareness that need to improve their processes, which have reached the level of awareness that need to improve their development process and maintenance applications

Software Process Improvement (SPI) is a large area of expertise that deals with software development standard processes and is a progression of proven methods of process improvement from many different methodologies. Personal Software Process (PSP) and Team Software Process (TSP) complement the implementation of Capability Maturity Model Implementation (CMMI) and can be applied gradually from the individual, to the team, and then to the organization. These solutions from Carnegie Melon\u27s Software Engineering Institute (SEI) are leading edge for the field of process improvement. Solutions like this consume many resources, are very complex, require years to implement, and can be costly. The SEI solutions offer an industry standard for SPI. Three case studies were analyzed to provide insight into the benefits of CMMI for small organizations. Decisions that steer these solutions generally involve scheduling, quality, and cost. Depending on the individual needs of an organization, the CMMI technology can fulfill what is required. The example case studies were examined and concluded that given favorable conditions, implementing CMMI is feasible for small organizations

Towards Multi-Sourcing Maturity: A Service Integration Capability Model

    Get PDF
When outsourcing IT services, many enterprises today resort to multi-sourcing. It allows them to reduce costs and assemble a best-of-breed service portfolio. However, this usually also increases complexity. Despite the economic importance of multi-sourcing, though, there is no systematic understanding of the capabilities required to successfully integrate interdependent services and to manage multi-sourcing. This paper develops a capability model for service integration in a grounded coding approach based on literature and expert interviews. The model identifies six key capabilities and 18 sub-capabilities. We evaluate its applicability and validity via an empirical survey and two in-depth case studies. In addition, provide various insights into the implementation of service integration functions. Our contribution should provide orientation for companies how to direct their transformation efforts. It outlines an agenda for future research and builds a solid foundation for maturity models to improve multi-sourcing readiness – ultimately leading to more effective multi-sourcing solutions

A Scrum-based approach to CMMI maturity level 2 in Web Development environments

Scrum has become one of the most popular agile methodologies, either alone or combined with other agile practices. Besides, CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is accepted as a suitable model to measure the maturity of the organizations when developing or acquiring software. Although these two approaches are often considered antagonist, the use of an agile approach to reach certain CMMI maturity levels may result beneficial to organizations that develop Web systems, since they would take the advantages of both approaches. In Web community, this union may be very interesting, because agile approaches fits with the special needs of Web development, and they could be a useful tool for companies getting a certain grade of maturity. This work analyzes the goals of CMMI maturity level 2 and the feasibility of achieving them using the practices proposed by Scrum, trying to assess whether the use of this methodology is suitable for meeting the CMMI generic and specific goals or not. Finally, and based on this analysis, this paper raises a possible extension of Scrum, based on agile techniques, to accommodate the CMMI maturity level 2.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TIN2010-20057-C03-02Junta de Andalucía TIC-578

This paper presents a comparison of acquisition models related to decision analysis of IT supplier selection. The main standards are: Capability Maturity Model Integration for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ), ISO / IEC 12207 Information Technology / Software Life Cycle Processes, IEEE 1062 Recommended Practice for Software Acquisition, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guide. The objective of this paper is to compare the previous models to find the advantages and disadvantages of them for the future development of a decision model for IT supplier selection

Health Capability Maturity Model: Person-centered Approach in Personal Health Record system

    Get PDF
Personal health record (PHR) system is considered an important component in implementing continuity of care and evidence based treatment in modern healthcare. However, the adoption rates for PHR system by general public still remained low due to lack of interest and low health literacy level. In this paper, we propose a health capability maturity model (HCMM) and corresponding improvement paths to improve an individual’s capability to manage one’s health systematically by using PHRs. The HCMM allows an individual to collect, monitor, and control one’s health information. To this end, we attempt to integrate some of the key processes and concepts from Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and Trans-theoretical Model (TTM) into HCMM that assesses an individual’s capability and awareness on managing health and well-being and suggests customized improvement goals

Tese de doutoramento do Programa de Doutoramento em InformáticaThe Capability Maturity Model Integration is a reference model composed of a set of guidelines that has to be implemented to attain a specific level of maturity in a particular set of process areas. This model aims to establish a set of "best practices" that should be used to ensure the software development with a high degree of quality. However, CMMI is not widely adopted by small businesses. Its adoption by these companies is somewhat complex since, in its guidelines, it merely indicates what to do, but it does not indicate how to implement each guideline. The Rational Unified Process is a software development methodology, which has as its main objective to avail its users the possibility of the software developing high-quality, within time and budget. This thesis aims to contribute a set of solutions that can be followed by small organizations, in order to implement a more streamlined process model that guarantees an increase in the quality of their products. This thesis adopts and validates a tailoring of the Rational Unified Process allowing it to be more easily implemented by small businesses or small software teams. This thesis presents a study of the dependencies between all the Capability Maturity Model Integration process areas, in order to enable the understanding of what the implementation impact is of a given process area in the other process areas. Finally, we present a mapping between the Capability Maturity Model Integration and the Rational Unified Process, which aims to help small software development teams in the implementation of the Maturity Level 2 (presented in more detail) and Maturity Level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration. This mapping specifies what team members have to perform in order to implement most of the guidelines that the Capability Maturity Model Integration requires for each of their maturity levels.O Capability Maturity Model Integration é um modelo de referência que contém um conjunto de orientações necessárias para atingir um determinado nível de maturidade em áreas de processo específicas.

Electronic data exchange along the supply chain has been discussed in the information systems (IS) academic literature for many years and remains a practical problem for enterprises worldwide. In this paper we present a Maturity Model for B2B Integration (BIMM). The model is a result of a longitudinal research project on B2B integration. The BIMM was developed to assess the capability level for electronic document exchange of players in a supply chain and addresses current limitations of existing maturity models. The BIMM was developed a-priori from an extensive literature review and an explorative study of 112 company cases. In the next stage of the research the model will be validated using real-world data from leading B2B integration providers
