Experiences with Some Benchmarks for Deductive Databases and Implementations of Bottom-Up Evaluation
OpenRuleBench is a large benchmark suite for rule engines, which includes
deductive databases. We previously proposed a translation of Datalog to C++
based on a method that "pushes" derived tuples immediately to places where they
are used. In this paper, we report performance results of various
implementation variants of this method compared to XSB, YAP and DLV. We study
only a fraction of the OpenRuleBench problems, but we give a quite detailed
analysis of each such task and the factors which influence performance. The
results not only show the potential of our method and implementation approach,
but could be valuable for anybody implementing systems which should be able to
execute tasks of the discussed types.Comment: In Proceedings WLP'15/'16/WFLP'16, arXiv:1701.0014
Regional Security through Synergistic Integration: A Euro-Mediterranean Regional Security Complex? Jean Monnet/Robert Schuman Paper Series Vol. 5, No. 13 June 2008
In this paper I argue that the recent Iraq war shows that there are, at least with respect to the Greater Middle East, no âquick fixesâ for regional security, but that the painstaking process of political, economic and social development and harmonization (e.g. the âEuroMediterranean Partnership-paradigmâ) between the northern and southern members of the EMP has to be accomplished step by step to not only be inclusive of the great heterogeneity of peoples and systems in the Euro-Mediterranean region, but to also ensure that all share in the fruits of this development. Hence the commitment by all EMP-members to this collective security region is essential, as in its absence the consequences are felt by all, such as the illegal migration of economically desperate North Africans to Europe, or the militancy of Palestinians. Since the social, political and economic interdependence â and herewith the mutual security interests - among EMP-members is so complex, I propose in this paper to change Buzan and Waeverâs conception of the Middle Eastern Regional Security complex (MERSC) to the epistemologically more appropriate concept of a âEuro-Mediterranean Regional Security Complexâ (EMRSC), operating within the Euro-Med Partnership
Preliminary specification and design documentation for software components to achieve catallaxy in computational systems
This Report is about the preliminary specifications and design documentation for software components to achieve Catallaxy in computational systems. Grid Computing
The CFSP in synergetic theorising: Explaining the CFSP via a multi-causal and muilti-level analytical model. Jean Monnet/Robert Schuman Paper Series Vol. 8, No. 7, May 2008.
Usually, theoretical approaches and/or analytical models used in the study of the European Unionâs Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) are build on 'unicausal influences' and on just one 'level of analysis'. No doubt, such perspectives are parsimonious and elegant in their character. However, they exclude important elements in the CFSP's existence and development. By doing so, they are narrow in their analytical scope. The conclusion is that the CFSP is a complex object of analysis, requiring complex analytical models. This paper offers a new, multi-causal and multi-level framework based on three integration theories each for one relevant level of analysis. The model, so goes the argument, can account for significant factors that influence the institutional development of the CFSP. By this example, complex analytical frameworks, as the paper argues, are necessary both in order to better manage the examinations of complex subject matters and in order to fully explain their institutional developments
Big Dreams for Small Creatures: Ilana and Eugene Rosenbergâs path to the Hologenome Theory

A theoretical and computational basis for CATNETS
The main content of this report is the identification and definition of market mechanisms for Application Layer Networks (ALNs). On basis of the structured Market Engineering process, the work comprises the identification of requirements which adequate market mechanisms for ALNs have to fulfill. Subsequently, two mechanisms for each, the centralized and the decentralized case are described in this document. These build the theoretical foundation for the work within the following two years of the CATNETS project. --Grid Computing
The 2011 Debacle over Danish Border Control: A Mismatch of Domestic and European Games. EU Diplomacy Paper 01/2012, January 2012
In May 2011 the Danish minority government successfully obtained the support of the Danish Peopleâs Party to carry out a comprehensive pension reform. In return, it was agreed that Denmark would reintroduce border controls. However, this appeared to be at odds with the Schengen Agreement and prompted a heated response from Berlin and Brussels. The Danish government had to backtrack and insist that the proposed initiatives would not violate the Schengen acquis. This paper examines how a purely domestic issue galvanized into a strong diplomatic pressure on Denmark, and what that tells us of modern diplomacy in an integrated Europe. It argues that by linking its pension reform with border controls, the Danish government introduced the international level into its national negotiations. This illustrates that the two levels cannot be kept entirely separate in the European Union and diplomacy increasingly becomes a part of daily policy-making
