This thesis contributes to the state of the art in analytical database systems. First, we identify and explore extensions to better support analytics on event streams. Second, we propose a novel polygon index to enable efficient geospatial data processing in main memory. Third, we contribute a new deep learning approach to cardinality estimation, which is the core problem in cost-based query optimization.

Adaptive Merging on Phase Change Memory

Indexing is a well-known database technique used to facilitate data access and speed up query processing. Nevertheless, the construction and modification of indexes are very expensive. In traditional approaches, all records in the database table are equally covered by the index. It is not effective, since some records may be queried very often and some never. To avoid this problem, adaptive merging has been introduced. The key idea is to create index adaptively and incrementally as a side-product of query processing. As a result, the database table is indexed partially depending on the query workload. This paper faces a problem of adaptive merging for phase change memory (PCM). The most important features of this memory type are: limited write endurance and high write latency. As a consequence, adaptive merging should be investigated from the scratch. We solve this problem in two steps. First, we apply several PCM optimization techniques to the traditional adaptive merging approach. We prove that the proposed method (eAM) outperforms a traditional approach by 60%. After that, we invent the framework for adaptive merging (PAM) and a new PCM-optimized index. It further improves the system performance by 20% for databases where search queries interleave with data modifications

    L'intertextualité dans les publications scientifiques

    No full text

The author has successfully completed Dissertation on RFID Real Time Tracker. A brief introduction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is introduced including objectives, problem statement, scope of study, methodology and finding based on the research on RFID techniques. The purpose of this Dissertation is mainly to allow supervisor and examiners to evaluate her work on RFID Real Time Tracker based on the report which explain in writing about the contents of the project and its significance, like the problem statement, objective, scope, literature review, methodology used, results, conclusions and recommendations. Gain experience with applying the RFID knowledge and also to use the RFID concepts to solve in students tracking in real time. This Dissertation can be divided into five (5) chapters: Introduction, Literature review/Theory, Methodology/project work, Results and Discussion, lastly with Conclusion and Recommendation. In these the author learnt how to carry out simple support tasks which enhanced the author Professional Knowledge and Soft Skill Improvement. RFID Real Time Tracker is a system that applies the advantages of RFID technology to track the students that entering building 1 in real time which can help the security guard to solve the problem of stealing cases that always happen in UTP. From the research work from FYP I - II, the author divided methodology used into 5 stages: Design system, Software Development (Interface), Hardware Testing (Hyper Terminal), Hardware and Software Integration and Model Development. In order to make sure that system is working, testing is needed. The fmding can prove that system is really work as objective desired

A Web3D Enabled Information Integration Framework for Facility Management

Managing capital oil and gas and civil engineering facilities requires a large amount of heterogeneous information that is generated by different project stakeholders across the facility lifecycle phases and is stored in various databases and technical documents. The amount of information reaches its peak during the commissioning and handover phases when the project is handed over to the operator. The operational phase of facilities spans multiple decades and the way facilities are used and maintained have a huge impact on costs, environment, productivity, and health and safety. Thus, the client and the operator bear most of the additional costs associated with incomplete, incorrect or not immediately usable information. Web applications can provide quick and convenient access to information regardless of user location. However, the integration and delivery of engineering information, including 3D content, over the Web is still at its infancy and is affected by numerous technical (i.e. data and tools) and procedural (i.e. process and people) challenges. This paper addresses the technical issues and proposes a Web3D enabled information integration framework that delivers engineering information together with 3D content without any plug-ins. In the proposed framework, a class library defines the engineering data requirements and a semi-structured database provides means to integrate heterogeneous technical asset information. This framework also enables separating the 3D model content into fragments, storing them together with the digital assets and delivering to the client browser on demand. Such framework partially alleviates the current limitations of the JavaScript based 3D content delivery such as application speed and latency. Hence, the proposed framework is particularly valuable to petroleum and civil engineering companies working with large amounts of data
