Through a multiple case study of the perceptions' of four mediators, this dissertation addresses how and why social category diversity dictates mediation procedures. The researcher delves into the world of governmental, non-governmental and military environments to provide viewpoints that capture a diverse audience. This literature review covers areas such as: group dynamics, self and social identification, diversity, conflict, alternate dispute resolution, discrimination, mediation, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity (EEO).The researcher discovered that three out of four mediators felt that social category diversity did not affect the mediation process. She found that gender diversity had the greatest impact on the mediation process. The study also adds richness to the current theory by bringing to life and giving a face to the mediators behind the scenes.Despite increasing efforts to address diversity, it remains a topic of discussion in most workgroups. Diversity has been considered a double-edged sword creating conflict in some cases, but mediating it in others. It is what Oprah Winfrey defines as "hard to wrap your brain around." Diversity can be surface level or non-surface level, but either can create the greatest conflict or mediate the most volatile environment

The population of the research consists of teachers working in primary and secondary schools in Adapazarı, Serdivan, Erenler and Arifiye which are central districts of Sakarya Province. Relational survey model was used in the study. As a data collection tool, "The "Personal Information Form", which was created for the compilation of demographic information, "Manager Confidence Scale", which was developed by İslamoğlu, Birsel and Börü (2007), and "Organizational Happiness Scale", which was adapted to Turkish by Arslan and Polat (2017) was used. In the spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, 411 teachers participated in the study. The data obtained from the study were analysed with SPSS 23 program. The Spearman's Correlation (r) Test, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Tamhane's T2 Test from One-Way ANOVA Post-Hoc Tests were applied in accordance with the categorical characteristics of the data collected and the relationship sought. According to the findings obtained from the analyzes, it was determined that teachers' perceptions of trust in administrators and organizational happiness were high. There was generally a moderate positive correlation between the sub-dimensions of the trust to the manager and the sub-dimensions of the organizational happiness scale. Significant relationships were found between some of the personal variables and teachers' perceptions of trust in administrators and organizational happiness. An examination of new ventures going through the initial public offering: The impact of firm capabilities and characteristics on performance.

Entrepreneurship as a field of study generally focuses on the pursuit of new opportunities and the activities of firms engaged in bringing new ideas to financial fruition. Due to their liability of newness, growth and survival are never a certainty for new ventures; indeed, organizational failure is much more common. Those new ventures that do attain a modicum of success often seek to "go public" through an initial public offering (IPO) of their stock in order to raise additional capital. This three-essay dissertation examines the performance of a sample of new ventures both at the time of the IPO as well as one year hence. The first study examines how venture capitalists (VCs) assist their organizations during the post-IPO period. Results suggest that VCs assist their organizations in reacting better to identified threats. The second study examines the nature of the underwriting process and identifies when greater underpricing is expected. Results provide evidence that underwriters pursue greater underpricing when possible (likely in order to create loyalty among their institutional investors). On the other hand, we find that new ventures can mitigate the likelihood of underpricing by reducing their information asymmetry concerning the value of the venture and by demonstrating stronger insider representation on the board of directors. The third study examines how signals impact the new venture at the time of the IPO. We find that the lockup period is often used in lieu of other signals which may be unavailable (such as prestigious underwriter backing or venture capital backing). Ventures with higher uncertainty or performance problems at the time of the IPO can reduce investor uncertainty and concomitantly the amount of underpricing when the lockup period is extended
