    Channel Estimation for MIMO MC-CDMA Systems

    The concepts of MIMO MC-CDMA are not new but the new technologies to improve their functioning are an emerging area of research. In general, most mobile communication systems transmit bits of information in the radio space to the receiver. The radio channels in mobile radio systems are usually multipath fading channels, which cause inter-symbol interference (ISI) in the received signal. To remove ISI from the signal, there is a need of strong equalizer. In this thesis we have focused on simulating the MIMO MC-CDMA systems in MATLAB and designed the channel estimation for them

Furthermore, blind methods remove the need for training sequences which leads to a gain in the channel bandwidth. Subspace concept in blind MUD is an alternative process to classical and batch blind MUD techniques based on principle component analysis, or independent component analysis (ICA) and ICA-like algorithms, such as joint approximate diagonalization of eigen-matrices (JADE), blind source separation algorithm with reference system, etc. Briefly, the desired signal is searched in the signal subspace instead of the whole space, in this type of detectors. A variation of the subspace-based MUD is reduced-rank MUD in which a smaller subspace of the signal subspace is tracked where the desired signal is contained in. This latter method leads to a performance gain compared to a standard subspace method. In this thesis, blind signal subspace and reduced-rank MUD techniques are investigated, and applied to minimum mean square error (MMSE) detectors with two different iterative subspace tracking algorithms. The performances of these detectors are compared in different scenarios for additive white Gaussian noise and for multipath fading channels as well. With simulation results the superiority of the reduced-rank detector to the signal subspace detector is shown. Additionally, as a new remark for both detectors, it is shown that, using minimum description length criterion in subspace tracking algorithm results in an increase in rank-tracking ability and correspondingly in the final performance. Finally, the performances of these two detectors are compared with MMSE, adaptive MMSE and JADE detectors

    Blind estimation of long and short Pseudo-random codes in multi-rate LSC-DS-CDMA signals

    Aiming at the problem of blind estimation of pseudo-noise codes in multi-rate long and short codes direct sequence code division multiple access signal, in this paper, a novel codes estimation method based on Fast-ICA algorithm and sequences properties is proposed in this paper. The received signal is firstly segmented twice according to its maximum long scrambling code period and minimum spreading code period. Each user’s composite code fragments consisting of long and short codes are separated by Fast-ICA algorithm. Then the user's long and short codes are estimated in descending order of the data rate, and the specific steps are as follows. Firstly, the separated composite code fragments make up the fuzzy sequences, and the double delay-and-multiply method is used to eliminate the order fuzzy and spread code interference. Secondly, combined with cyclotomic cosets and triple correlation properties, the method of feature information matching is used to estimate the long scrambling codes of all users with the same data rate. Meanwhile, the short spread codes are estimated by correlation operation. Lastly, all the estimated users’ composite code fragments are deleted by using similarity matrix, fuzzy sequences are reconstructed, and three steps above are repeated until all users’ long and short codes are estimated.     Acoustic indoor localization employing code division multiple access

Although extensively used outdoor location systems have been proposed, they can not operate in indoor applications. Hence new investigations have been carried on for accurate indoor localization in the last decade. In this thesis, a new indoor location system, that aims to locate an entity within an accuracy of about 2 cm using ordinary and inexpensive off-the-shelf devices, has been proposed and an implementation has been applied to evaluate the system performance. Therefore, time of arrival measurements of acoustic signals, which are binary phase shift keying modulated Gold code sequences using direct sequence spread spectrum technique, are done. Direct sequence-code division multiple access is applied to perform simultaneous accurate distance measurements and provides immunity to noise and interference. Two methods have been proposed for the location estimation. The first method takes the average of four location estimates obtained by trilateration technique. In the second method, only a single robust position estimate is obtained using three distances while the least reliable fourth distance measurement is not taken into account. The system performance is evaluated at positions from two height levels using two sets of variables determined by experimental results. The precision distributions in the work area and the precision versus accuracy plots depict the system performance for different sets of variables. The proposed system provides location estimates of better than 2 cm accuracy within 99% precision. Eventually, created graphical user interface provides a user friendly environment to adjust the parameters

    Independent component analysis applications in CDMA systems

When CDMA models are studied for different channel characteristics, it is seen that they are similar with BSS/ICA models. It is also showed that if ICA is applied to these CDMA models, desired user.s signal can be estimated successfully without channel information and other users. code sequences. ICA detector is compared with matched filter detector and other conventional detectors using simulation results and it is seen that ICA has some advantages over the other methods.The other BSS method, IFA is applied to basic CDMA downlink model. Since IFA has some convergence and speed problems when the number of sources is large, firstly basic CDMA model with ideal channel assumption is used in IFA application.With simulation of ideal CDMA channel, IFA is compared with ICA and matched filter.Furthermore, Pearson System-based ICA (PS-ICA) method is used forestimating non-Gaussian multipath fading channel coefficients. Considering some fading channel measurements showing that the fading channel coefficients may have an impulsive nature, these coefficients are modeled with an -stable distribution whose shape parameter takes values close to 2 which makes the distributions slightly impulsive. Simulation results are obtained to compare PS-ICA with classical ICA.Also IFA is applied to the single path CDMA downlink model to estimate fading channel by using the advantage of IFA which is the capability to estimate sources with wide class of distributions
