    Pilot Decontamination in CMT-based Massive MIMO Networks

    Pilot contamination problem in massive MIMO networks operating in time-division duplex (TDD) mode can limit their expected capacity to a great extent. This paper addresses this problem in cosine modulated multitone (CMT) based massive MIMO networks; taking advantage of their so-called blind equalization property. We extend and apply the blind equalization technique from single antenna case to multi-cellular massive MIMO systems and show that it can remove the channel estimation errors (due to pilot contamination effect) without any need for cooperation between different cells or transmission of additional training information. Our numerical results advocate the efficacy of the proposed blind technique in improving the channel estimation accuracy and removal of the residual channel estimation errors caused by the users of the other cells.Comment: Accepted in ISWCS 201

    Enhanced Channel Estimation Based On Basis Expansion Using Slepian Sequences for Time Varying OFDM Systems

    The Channel estimation in OFDM has become very important to recover the accurate information from the received data as the next generation of wireless technology has very high data rate along with the very high speed mobile terminals as users. In addition the fast fading channels, ICI, multipath fading channels may completely destroy the data. Also it is required to use less complex method for estimation. We are proposing the method which compares the number of techniques and gives the results in BER Vs SNR graphs. The LS estimation technique is less complex as compared to MMSE estimation but gives fails in accuracy. Using Prolate function we can reduce the complexity in calculation of parameters. If compared with state of art approach where the complexity is O(N)3, the complexity using Prolate function is O(N)2.The function depends upon maximum delay and maximum Doppler frequency spread thus parameter calculation is reduced. The technique dose not calculate particular channel characteristics. Slepian sequences utilizes the bandwidth as the sharp pulses replace the regular rectangular pulses which causes spectral leakage and thus ICI. The simulation of BER Vs SNR using CP and UW with and without Prolate is proposed that increases spectral efficiency with reduced calculations replacing rectangular pulses by Slepian pulses which increase energy concentration by Sharpe pulses thus reduction in inter carrier interference caused by multipath fading.     Scattered Pilots and Virtual Carriers Based Frequency Offset Tracking for OFDM Systems: Algorithms, Identifiability, and Performance Analysis

    In this paper, we propose a novel carrier frequency offset (CFO) tracking algorithm for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems by exploiting scattered pilot carriers and virtual carriers embedded in the existing OFDM standards. Assuming that the channel remains constant during two consecutive OFDM blocks and perfect timing, a CFO tracking algorithm is proposed using the limited number of pilot carriers in each OFDM block. Identifiability of this pilot based algorithm is fully discussed under the noise free environment, and a constellation rotation strategy is proposed to eliminate the c-ambiguity for arbitrary constellations. A weighted algorithm is then proposed by considering both scattered pilots and virtual carriers. We find that, the pilots increase the performance accuracy of the algorithm, while the virtual carriers reduce the chance of CFO outlier. Therefore, the proposed tracking algorithm is able to achieve full range CFO estimation, can be used before channel estimation, and could provide improved performance compared to existing algorithms. The asymptotic mean square error (MSE) of the proposed algorithm is derived and simulation results agree with the theoretical analysis

    Channel estimation and tracking algorithms for vehicle to vehicle communications

    The vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications channels are highly time-varying, making reliable communication difficult. This problem is particularly challenging because the standard of the V2V communications (IEEE 802.11p standard) is based on the WLAN IEEE 802.11a standard, which was designed for indoor, relatively stationary channels; so the IEEE 802.11p standard is not customized for outdo or, highly mobile non-stationary channels. In this thesis,We propose Channel estimation and tracking algorithms that are suitable for highly-time varying channels. The proposed algorithms utilize the finite alphabet property of the transmitted symbol, time domain truncation, decision-directed as well as pilot information. The proposed algorithm s improve the overall system performance in terms of bit error rates, enabling the system to achieve higher data rates and larger packet lengths at high relative velocities. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms achieve improved performance for all the V2V channel models with different velocities, and for different modulation schemes and packet sizes as compared to the conventional least squares and other previously proposed channel estimation techniques for V2V channels

Signal sensing, detection and estimation have been prevalent in signal processing and communications for many years. The relevant studies deal with the processing of information-bearing signals for the purpose of information extraction. Nevertheless, new robust and efficient signal sensing, detection and estimation techniques are still in demand since there emerge more and more practical applications which rely on them. In this dissertation work, we proposed several novel signal sensing, detection and estimation schemes for wireless communications applications, such as spectrum sensing, symbol-detection/channel-estimation, and encoder identification. The associated theories and practice in robustness, computational complexity, and overall system performance evaluation are also provided
