Organization of Multi-Agent Systems: An Overview
In complex, open, and heterogeneous environments, agents must be able to
reorganize towards the most appropriate organizations to adapt unpredictable
environment changes within Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). Types of reorganization
can be seen from two different levels. The individual agents level
(micro-level) in which an agent changes its behaviors and interactions with
other agents to adapt its local environment. And the organizational level
(macro-level) in which the whole system changes it structure by adding or
removing agents. This chapter is dedicated to overview different aspects of
what is called MAS Organization including its motivations, paradigms, models,
and techniques adopted for statically or dynamically organizing agents in MAS.Comment: 12 page
A Developmental Neuro-Robotics Approach for Boosting the Recognition of Handwritten Digits
Developmental psychology and neuroimaging
research identified a close link between numbers and fingers,
which can boost the initial number knowledge in children. Recent
evidence shows that a simulation of the children's embodied
strategies can improve the machine intelligence too. This article
explores the application of embodied strategies to convolutional
neural network models in the context of developmental neurorobotics, where the training information is likely to be gradually
acquired while operating rather than being abundant and fully
available as the classical machine learning scenarios. The
experimental analyses show that the proprioceptive information
from the robot fingers can improve network accuracy in the
recognition of handwritten Arabic digits when training examples
and epochs are few. This result is comparable to brain imaging
and longitudinal studies with young children. In conclusion, these
findings also support the relevance of the embodiment in the case
of artificial agents’ training and show a possible way for the
humanization of the learning process, where the robotic body can
express the internal processes of artificial intelligence making it
more understandable for humans
Learner course recommendation in e-learning based on swarm intelligence
Se dan unas recomendaciones en la enseñanza asistida por ordenador (e-learning) basada en la inteligencia colectiva.This paper analyses aspects about the recommendation process in distributedinformation systems. It extracts similarities and differences between recommendations in estores and the recommendations applied to an e-learning environment. It also explains the phenomena of self-organization and cooperative emergence in complex systems coupled with bio-inspired algorithms to improve knowledge discovery and association rules. Finally, the present recommendation is applied to e-learning by proposing recommendation by emergence in a multi.agent system architecture
Towards conscious-like behavior in computer game characters

Milano, Italy, 7-10 Septiembre, 2009.The main sources of inspiration for the design of more engaging synthetic characters are existing psychological models of human cognition. Usually, these models, and the associated Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, are based on partial aspects of the real complex systems involved in the generation of human-like behavior. Emotions, planning, learning, user modeling, set shifting, and attention mechanisms are some remarkable examples of features typically considered in isolation within classical AI control models. Artificial cognitive architectures aim at integrating many of these aspects together into effective control systems. However, the design of this sort of architectures is not straightforward. In this paper, we argue that current research efforts in the young field of Machine Consciousness (MC) could contribute to tackle complexity and provide a useful framework for the design of more appealing synthetic characters. Towards formal models and languages for verifiable Multi-Robot Systems
Incorrect operations of a Multi-Robot System (MRS) may not only lead to
unsatisfactory results, but can also cause economic losses and threats to
safety. These threats may not always be apparent, since they may arise as
unforeseen consequences of the interactions between elements of the system.
This call for tools and techniques that can help in providing guarantees about
MRSs behaviour. We think that, whenever possible, these guarantees should be
backed up by formal proofs to complement traditional approaches based on
testing and simulation.
We believe that tailored linguistic support to specify MRSs is a major step
towards this goal. In particular, reducing the gap between typical features of
an MRS and the level of abstraction of the linguistic primitives would simplify
both the specification of these systems and the verification of their
properties. In this work, we review different agent-oriented languages and
their features; we then consider a selection of case studies of interest and
implement them useing the surveyed languages. We also evaluate and compare
effectiveness of the proposed solution, considering, in particular, easiness of
