    Arabic Isolated Word Speaker Dependent Recognition System

    In this thesis we designed a new Arabic isolated word speaker dependent recognition system based on a combination of several features extraction and classifications techniques. Where, the system combines the methods outputs using a voting rule. The system is implemented with a graphic user interface under Matlab using G62 Core I3/2.26 Ghz processor laptop. The dataset used in this system include 40 Arabic words recorded in a calm environment with 5 different speakers using laptop microphone. Each speaker will read each word 8 times. 5 of them are used in training and the remaining are used in the test phase. First in the preprocessing step we used an endpoint detection technique based on energy and zero crossing rates to identify the start and the end of each word and remove silences then we used a discrete wavelet transform to remove noise from signal. In order to accelerate the system and reduce the execution time we make the system first to recognize the speaker and load only the reference model of that user. We compared 5 different methods which are pairwise Euclidean distance with MelFrequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC), Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) with Formants features, Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) with MFCC, MFCC+DTW and Itakura distance with Linear Predictive Coding features (LPC) and we got a recognition rate of 85.23%, 57% , 87%, 90%, 83% respectively. In order to improve the accuracy of the system, we tested several combinations of these 5 methods. We find that the best combination is MFCC | Euclidean + Formant | DTW + MFCC | DTW + LPC | Itakura with an accuracy of 94.39% but with large computation time of 2.9 seconds. In order to reduce the computation time of this hybrid, we compare several subcombination of it and find that the best performance in trade off computation time is by first combining MFCC | Euclidean + LPC | Itakura and only when the two methods do not match the system will add Formant | DTW + MFCC | DTW methods to the combination, where the average computation time is reduced to the half to 1.56 seconds and the system accuracy is improved to 94.56%. Finally, the proposed system is good and competitive compared with other previous researches

    This Special Issue addresses a topic of great contemporary relevance; in developed countries, most of peoples’ time is spent indoors and, depending on each person, the presence in the home ranges from 60% to 90% of the day, and 30% of that time is spent sleeping. Taking into account these data, indoor residential environments have a direct influence on human health. In addition to this, in developing countries, significant levels of indoor pollution make housing unsafe, with a detrimental impact on the health of inhabitants. Housing is therefore a key health factor for people all over the world, and various parameters such as air quality, ventilation, hygrothermal comfort, lighting, physical environment, and building efficiency, among others, can contribute to healthy architecture, and the conditions that can result from the poor application of these parameters

    This book is a historical review of international food and agriculture since the founding of the international organizations following the Second World War, including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and into the 1970s, when CGIAR was established and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) was created to recycle petrodollars. The book concurrently focuses on the structural transformation of developing countries in Asia and Africa, with some making great strides in small farmer development and in achieving structural transformation of their economies. Some have also achieved Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG2, but most have not. Not only are some countries, particularly in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, lagging behind, but they face new challenges of climate change, competition from emerging countries, population pressure, urbanization, environmental decay, dietary transition, and now pandemics. Lagging developing countries need huge investments in human capital, and physical and institutional infrastructure, to take advantage of rapid change in technologies, but the role of international assistance in financial transfers has diminished. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only set many poorer countries back but starkly revealed the weaknesses of past strategies. Transformative changes are needed in developing countries with international cooperation to achieve better outcomes.     Dipterocarps protected by Jering local wisdom in Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park, Bangka Island, Indonesia

    Apart of the oil palm plantation expansion, the Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park has relatively diverse plants. The 3,538 ha park is located at the north west of Bangka Island, Indonesia. The minimum species-area curve was 0.82 ha which is just below Dalil conservation forest that is 1.2 ha, but it is much higher than measurements of several secondary forests in the Island that are 0.2 ha. The plot is inhabited by more than 50 plant species. Of 22 tree species, there are 40 individual poles with the average diameter of 15.3 cm, and 64 individual trees with the average diameter of 48.9 cm. The density of Dipterocarpus grandiflorus (Blanco) Blanco or kruing, is 20.7 individual/ha with the diameter ranges of 12.1 – 212.7 cm or with the average diameter of 69.0 cm. The relatively intact park is supported by the local wisdom of Jering tribe, one of indigenous tribes in the island. People has regulated in cutting trees especially in the cape. The conservation agency designates the park as one of the kruing propagules sources in the province. The growing oil palm plantation and the less adoption of local wisdom among the youth is a challenge to forest conservation in the province where tin mining activities have been the economic driver for decades.
