In particular, an urgent need has arisen to understand the effects of communication processes on system performances. Sampling and protocol are two fundamental aspects of a communication process which have attracted a great deal of research attention. Most research focus has been on the analysis and control of dynamical behaviors under certain sampling procedures and communication protocols. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the analysis and synthesis issues of NCSs with different sampling procedures (time-and event-driven sampling) and protocols (static and dynamic protocols). First, these sampling procedures and protocols are introduced in detail according to their engineering backgrounds as well as dynamic natures. Then, the developments of the stabilization, control, and filtering problems are systematically reviewed and discussed in great detail. Finally, we conclude the paper by outlining future research challenges for analysis and synthesis problems of NCSs with different communication processes. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61329301, 61374127, and 61374010, the Royal Society of the UK, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
Classification of coupled dynamical systems with multiple delays: Finding the minimal number of delays
In this article we study networks of coupled dynamical systems with
time-delayed connections. If two such networks hold different delays on the
connections it is in general possible that they exhibit different dynamical
behavior as well. We prove that for particular sets of delays this is not the
case. To this aim we introduce a componentwise timeshift transformation (CTT)
which allows to classify systems which possess equivalent dynamics, though
possibly different sets of connection delays. In particular, we show for a
large class of semiflows (including the case of delay differential equations)
that the stability of attractors is invariant under this transformation.
Moreover we show that each equivalence class which is mediated by the CTT
possesses a representative system in which the number of different delays is
not larger than the cycle space dimension of the underlying graph. We conclude
that the 'true' dimension of the corresponding parameter space of delays is in
general smaller than it appears at first glance
Modelling and Analysis of miRNA Regulation
MiRNA regulation is involved in many important biological processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis and metabolism. Computational predictions of miRNA targets suggest that up 30 % of human proteins coding genes may be regulated by miRNAs. This makes miRNAs one of the most abundant classes of regulatory genes in humans. In the present paper we develop a time delay model of a feedback system regulated via miRNA. The model resulted in three DDEs with three discrete time delays. Since this system is a classical case study, covering several essential features of miRNA and genetic regulatory mechanisms, general conclusions about design principles and role of time delays in the stability of gene circuits can be suggested. The basic view that time delays are a key factor in the dynamic behaviour of the system was confirmed by the analytical calculations and numerical simulations
A Note on the Observability of Temporal Boolean Control Network
Temporal Boolean network is a generalization of the Boolean network model that takes
into account the time series nature of the data and tries to incorporate into the model the
possible existence of delayed regulatory interactions among genes. This paper investigates the
observability problem of temporal Boolean control networks. Using the semi tensor product of
matrices, the temporal Boolean networks can be converted into discrete time linear dynamic
systems with time delays. Then, necessary and sufficient conditions on the observability via
two kinds of inputs are obtained. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the
obtained results

A Class of Vector Lyapunov Functions for Stability Analysis of Nonlinear Impulsive Differential Systems
A novel and effective approach to stability of the solutions of nonlinear systems with impulsive effect is considered. The investigations are carried out by means of a class of vector Lyapunov functions and differential inequalities for piecewise continuous functions. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the presented results
Exponential Stability of Coupled Systems on Networks with Mixed Delays and Reaction-Diffusion Terms
This paper is concerned with the stability analysis issue for coupled systems on networks with mixed delays and reaction-diffusion terms (CSNMRs). By employing Lyapunov method and Kirchhoff's Theorem in graph theory, a systematic method is proposed to guarantee exponential stability of CSNMRs. Two different kinds
of sufficient criteria are derived in the form of Lyapunov function and coefficients of the system, respectively. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed criteria
