    Based on the internet plus the safety of agricultural products traceability research

    The purpose of this research is to explore the emergence and implementation of agricultural security traceability systems in the agricultural products supply chain in China and to understand what benefits that an agricultural security traceability system based on 'Internet+' can provide to the agricultural products supply chain in China. This research made three hypothesis about big data and technology, platforms and other means for product quality and safety of agricultural products traceability. In order to verify the accuracy of these three assumptions, regression analysis were used to construct five models for verification of three hypothesis. The results show that based on 'Internet+' , using big data, big technology and big platform can significantly increase the accuracy of agricultural products traceability system hence improve consumer acceptance of the safety of agricultural products

    How is Modernity Accepted by Consumers with Respect to Traditional Food Products? The Case of Traceability

    Up till now, no researches have been done on consumers’ acceptability of new technical supporters of traceability, especially for traditional food products. Therefore, in the framework of the EU research project TRACE, we carried out focus group discussions, individual laddering interviews (with hierarchical value maps) and a choice-based conjoint experiment. Traceability is a fashionable word with different meanings whether it comes to producers or to consumers. The formers link it to technical aspects while the latter see in it a path for safe and good quality food products. How to intersect these two dimensions when advertising trend and consumer expectations are focusing on traditional food products? In France, consumers are familiar with the word traceability, however, they are not aware of the new supports of food traceability. They are still not ready for sophisticated systems and prefer the labeling ones. The more abstract the traceability support is, the more complex traceability seems to be perceived by them. Interestingly, we questioned consumers on traceability supports, they mainly responded on origin and label of origin as a simple way to track food products.     Blockchain For Food: Making Sense of Technology and the Impact on Biofortified Seeds

    The global food system is under pressure and is in the early stages of a major transition towards more transparency, circularity, and personalisation. In the coming decades, there is an increasing need for more food production with fewer resources. Thus, increasing crop yields and nutritional value per crop is arguably an important factor in this global food transition. Biofortification can play an important role in feeding the world. Biofortified seeds create produce with increased nutritional values, mainly minerals and vitamins, while using the same or less resources as non-biofortified variants. However, a farmer cannot distinguish a biofortified seed from a regular seed. Due to the invisible nature of the enhanced seeds, counterfeit products are common, limiting wide-scale adoption of biofortified crops. Fraudulent seeds pose a major obstacle in the adoption of biofortified crops. A system that could guarantee the origin of the biofortified seeds is therefore required to ensure widespread adoption.     The StarLink Case: Issues for the Future

    The disclosure in September 2000 that StarLink corn had been found in the human food supply putfood biotechnology in the public spotlight and caused concern among consumers and food systemstakeholders alike that a product approved only for animal use could find its way to grocery shelves. TheStarLink experience raises a number of issues that deserve study concerning the current regulatory systemand public policies affecting genetically modified foods. The issues include how to manage allergenicityissues posed by biotech foods at the approval stage. Most of the issues, however, involve post-approvalcontrol of staple food crops that have been genetically modified. It may be increasingly important in thefuture to maintain the identity of genetically modified crops and segregate them from conventional ones,yet neither the grain trading system nor the government regulatory system were designed to ensure this.This paper is the first step in a case study that Resources for the Future is conducting for the PewInitiative on Food and Biotechnology to identify and analyze the regulatory and public policy issuesraised by the StarLink episode.
