Audio Analysis/synthesis System
A method and apparatus for the automatic analysis, synthesis and modification of audio signals, based on an overlap-add sinusoidal model, is disclosed. Automatic analysis of amplitude, frequency and phase parameters of the model is achieved using an analysis-by-synthesis procedure which incorporates successive approximation, yielding synthetic waveforms which are very good approximations to the original waveforms and are perceptually identical to the original sounds. A generalized overlap-add sinusoidal model is introduced which can modify audio signals without objectionable artifacts. In addition, a new approach to pitch-scale modification allows for the use of arbitrary spectral envelope estimates and addresses the problems of high-frequency loss and noise amplification encountered with prior art methods. The overlap-add synthesis method provides the ability to synthesize sounds with computational efficiency rivaling that of synthesis using the discrete short-time Fourier transform (DSTFT) while eliminating the modification artifacts associated with that method.Georgia Tech Research Corporatio
Optimum SHE for cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters using: NR-GA-PSO, comparative study
Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) is very widely applied technique in the control of multilevel inverters that can be used to eliminate the low order dominant harmonics. This is considered a low frequency technique, in which the switching angles are predetermined based on solving a system of transcendental equations. Iterative techniques such as NR and Heuristic techniques such as GA and PSO have been used widely in literatures for the problem of SHE. Wavelet-based response spectrum compatible synthesis of accelerograms-Eurocode application (EC8)
An integrated approach for addressing the problem of synthesizing artificial seismic accelerograms compatible with a given displacement design/target spectrum is presented in conjunction with aseismic design applications. Initially, a stochastic dynamics solution is used to obtain a family of simulated non-stationary earthquake records whose response spectrum is on the average in good agreement with the target spectrum. The degree of the agreement depends significantly on the adoption of an appropriate parametric evolutionary power spectral form, which is related to the target spectrum in an approximate manner. The performance of two commonly used spectral forms along with a newly proposed one is assessed with respect to the elastic displacement design spectrum defined by the European code regulations (EC8). Subsequently, the computational versatility of the family of harmonic wavelets is employed to modify iteratively the simulated records to satisfy the compatibility criteria for artificial accelerograms prescribed by EC8. In the process, baseline correction steps, ordinarily taken to ensure that the obtained accelerograms are characterized by physically meaningful velocity and displacement traces, are elucidated. Obviously, the presented approach can be used not only in the case of the EC8, for which extensive numerical results/examples are included, but also for any code provisions mandated by regulatory agencies. In any case, the presented numerical results can be quite useful in any aseismic design process dominated by the EC8 specifications
A Weighted Correlation Index for Rankings with Ties
Understanding the correlation between two different scores for the same set
of items is a common problem in information retrieval, and the most commonly
used statistics that quantifies this correlation is Kendall's . However,
the standard definition fails to capture that discordances between items with
high rank are more important than those between items with low rank. Recently,
a new measure of correlation based on average precision has been proposed to
solve this problem, but like many alternative proposals in the literature it
assumes that there are no ties in the scores. This is a major deficiency in a
number of contexts, and in particular while comparing centrality scores on
large graphs, as the obvious baseline, indegree, has a very large number of
ties in web and social graphs. We propose to extend Kendall's definition in a
natural way to take into account weights in the presence of ties. We prove a
number of interesting mathematical properties of our generalization and
describe an algorithm for its computation. We also validate the
usefulness of our weighted measure of correlation using experimental data

New more complex inverter topologies and new application fields come along with additional control challenges, such as voltage imbalances, power-quality issues, higher efficiency needs, and fault-tolerant operation, which necessarily requires the parallel development of modulation schemes. Therefore, recently, there have been significant advances in the field of modulation of dc/ac converters, which conceptually has been dominated during the last several decades almost exclusively by classic pulse-width modulation (PWM) methods.
