GuiMarket Specification Using the Unified Modeling Language
AbstractGuiMarket is an e-Marketplace of health care, social care services developed as a pilot project in a Northern Portuguese Municipality, with the main objective of improving the well-being of elderly people and people with special needs staying at home, or their caregivers. This paper makes a brief introduction of this platform, explains its overall implementation and operation using an IDEF0 (Integration DEFinition) diagram, and presents the specification of the main services of the e-Marketplace using UML (Unified Modeling Language)
Professional Judgment in an Era of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Though artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and education now accomplishes diverse tasks, there are two features that tend to unite the information processing behind efforts to substitute it for professionals in these fields: reductionism and functionalism. True believers in substitutive automation tend to model work in human services by reducing the professional role to a set of behaviors initiated by some stimulus, which are intended to accomplish some predetermined goal, or maximize some measure of well-being. However, true professional judgment hinges on a way of knowing the world that is at odds with the epistemology of substitutive automation. Instead of reductionism, an encompassing holism is a hallmark of professional practice—an ability to integrate facts and values, the demands of the particular case and prerogatives of society, and the delicate balance between mission and margin. Any presently plausible vision of substituting AI for education and health-care professionals would necessitate a corrosive reductionism. The only way these sectors can progress is to maintain, at their core, autonomous professionals capable of carefully intermediating between technology and the patients it would help treat, or the students it would help learn

The ADVANCE network: accelerating data value across a national community health center network
The ADVANCE (Accelerating Data Value Across a National Community Health Center Network) clinical data research network (CDRN) is led by the OCHIN Community Health Information Network in partnership with Health Choice Network and Fenway Health. The ADVANCE CDRN will ‘horizontally’ integrate outpatient electronic health record data for over one million federally qualified health center patients, and ‘vertically’ integrate hospital, health plan, and community data for these patients, often under-represented in research studies. Patient investigators, community investigators, and academic investigators with diverse expertise will work together to meet project goals related to data integration, patient engagement and recruitment, and the development of streamlined regulatory policies. By enhancing the data and research infrastructure of participating organizations, the ADVANCE CDRN will serve as a ‘community laboratory’ for including disadvantaged and vulnerable patients in patient-centered outcomes research that is aligned with the priorities of patients, clinics, and communities in our network
Mapping Cloud-Edge-IoT opportunities and challenges in Europe
While current data processing predominantly occurs in centralized facilities, with a minor portion handled by smart objects, a shift is anticipated, with a surge in data originating from smart devices. This evolution necessitates reconfiguring the infrastructure, emphasising computing capabilities at the cloud's "edge" closer to data sources. This change symbolises the merging of cloud, edge, and IoT technologies into a unified network infrastructure - a Computing Continuum - poised to redefine tech interactions, offering novel prospects across diverse sectors. The computing continuum is emerging as a cornerstone of tech advancement in the contemporary digital era.
This paper provides an in-depth exploration of the computing continuum, highlighting its potential, practical implications, and the adjustments required to tackle existing challenges. It emphasises the continuum's real-world applications, market trends, and its significance in shaping Europe's tech future
Digital Deception: Generative Artificial Intelligence in Social Engineering and Phishing
The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has
profound implications for both the utility and security of our digital
interactions. This paper investigates the transformative role of Generative AI
in Social Engineering (SE) attacks. We conduct a systematic review of social
engineering and AI capabilities and use a theory of social engineering to
identify three pillars where Generative AI amplifies the impact of SE attacks:
Realistic Content Creation, Advanced Targeting and Personalization, and
Automated Attack Infrastructure. We integrate these elements into a conceptual
model designed to investigate the complex nature of AI-driven SE attacks - the
Generative AI Social Engineering Framework. We further explore human
implications and potential countermeasures to mitigate these risks. Our study
aims to foster a deeper understanding of the risks, human implications, and
countermeasures associated with this emerging paradigm, thereby contributing to
a more secure and trustworthy human-computer interaction.Comment: Submitted to CHI 202
Communicative Development and Diffusion of Humanoid AI Robots for the Post-Pandemic Health Care System
As humanoid robot technology, anthropomorphized by artificial intelligence (AI), has rapidly advanced to introduce more human-resembling automated robots that can communicate, interact, and work like humans, we have begun to expect active interactions with Humanoid AI Robots (HAIRs) in the near future. Coupled with the HAIR technology development, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered our interest in using health care robots with many substantial advantages that overcome critical human vulnerabilities against the strong infectious COVID-19 virus. Recognizing the tremendous potential for the active application of HAIRs, this article explores feasible ways to implement HAIRs in health care and patient services and suggests recommendations for strategically developing and diffusing autonomous HAIRs in health care facilities. While discussing the integration of HAIRs into health care, this article points out some important ethical concerns that should be addressed for implementing HAIRs for health care services
