A new toolbox, which assists with most of the control design cycle,has been developed. Its purpose is to assist and guide the control system designer through the design cycle, thereby enabling faster design. With the choice of control strategy unrestricted,the toolbox is sufficiently flexible to support the design processfor the aforementioned more complex specifications

    Application Of Nonlinear Models For A Well-defined Description Of The Dynamics Of Rotors In Magnetic Bearings

    A research report has been submitted. It deals with implementing a method for a mathematical description of the nonlinear dynamics of rotors in magnetic bearings of different types (passive and active). The method is based on Lagrange-Maxwell differential equations in a form similar to that of Routh equations in mechanics. The mathematical models account for such nonlinearities as the nonlinear dependencies of magnetic forces on gaps in passive and active magnetic bearings and on currents in the windings of electromagnets; nonlinearities related to the inductances in coils; the geometric link between the electromagnets in one AMB and the link between all AMBs in one rotor, which results in relatedness of processes in orthogonal directions, and other factors. The suggested approach made it possible to detect and investigate different phenomena in nonlinear rotor dynamics. The method adequacy has been confirmed experimentally on a laboratory setup, which is a prototype of a complete combined magnetic-electromagnetic suspension in small-size rotor machinery. Different variants of linearizing the equations of motion have been considered. They provide for both linearization of restoring magnetic or electromagnetic forces in passive and active magnetic bearings, and exclusion of nonlinear motion equation terms. Calculation results for several linearization variants have been obtained. An appraisal of results identified the drawbacks of linearized mathematical models and allowed drawing a conclusion on the necessity of applying nonlinear models for a well-defined description of the dynamics of rotor systems with magnetic bearings

    Automated annotation of multimedia audio data with affective labels for information management

    The emergence of digital multimedia systems is creating many new opportunities for rapid access to huge content archives. In order to fully exploit these information sources, the content must be annotated with significant features. An important aspect of human interpretation of multimedia data, which is often overlooked, is the affective dimension. Such information is a potentially useful component for content-based classification and retrieval. Much of the affective information of multimedia content is contained within the audio data stream. Emotional features can be defined in terms of arousal and valence levels. In this study low-level audio features are extracted to calculate arousal and valence levels of multimedia audio streams. These are then mapped onto a set of keywords with predetermined emotional interpretations. Experimental results illustrate the use of this system to assign affective annotation to multimedia data

    An extensive photometric study of the Blazhko RR Lyrae star DM Cyg

    DM Cyg, a fundamental mode RRab star was observed in the 2007 and 2008 seasons in the frame of the Konkoly Blazhko Survey. Very small amplitude light curve modulation was detected with 10.57 d modulation period. The maximum brightness and phase variations do not exceed 0.07 mag and 7 min, respectively. In spite of the very small amplitude of the modulation, beside the frequency triplets characterizing the Fourier spectrum of the light curve two quintuplet components were also identified. The accuracy and the good phase coverage of our observations made it possible to analyse the light curves at different phases of the modulation separately. Utilizing the IP method (S\'odor, Jurcsik and Szeidl, 2009) we could detect very small systematic changes in the global mean physical parameters of DM Cyg during its Blazhko cycle. The detected changes are similar to what we have already found for a large modulation amplitude Blazhko variable MW Lyrae. The amplitudes of the detected changes in the physical parameters of DM Cyg are only about 10% of that what have been found in MW Lyr. This is in accordance with its small modulation amplitude being about one tenth of the modulation amplitude of MW Lyr.Comment: 12 pages, 15 figures, 4 tables.     Closed-Loop Control of a Piezo-Fluidic Amplifier

    Fluidic valves based on the Coand\u{a} effect are increasingly being considered for use in aerodynamic flow control applications. A limiting factor is their variation in switching time, which often precludes their use. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the closed-loop control of a recently developed, novel piezo-fluidic valve that reduces response time uncertainty at the expense of operating bandwidth. Use is made of the fact that a fluidic jet responds to a piezo tone by deflecting away from its steady state position. A control signal used to vary this deflection is amplitude modulated onto the piezo tone. Using only a pressure measurement from one of the device output channels, an output-based LQG regulator was designed to follow a desired reference deflection, achieving control of a 90 m/s jet. Finally, the controller's performance in terms of disturbance rejection and response time predictability is demonstrated.Comment: 31 pages, 23 figures. Published in AIAA Journal, 4th May 202
