Adaptive data acquisition multiplexing system and method

    Get PDF
A reconfigurable telemetry multiplexer is described which includes a monitor-terminal and a plurality of remote terminals. The remote terminals each include signal conditioning for a plurality of sensors for measuring parameters which are converted by an analog to digital converter. CPU's in the remote terminals store instructions for prompting system configuration and reconfiguration commands. The measurements, instructions, and the terminal's present configuration and status data are transmitted to the monitor-terminal and displayed. In response to menu-driven prompts generated and displayed at the monitor-terminal, data generation request commands, status and health commands, and the like are input at the monitor-terminal and transmitted to the remote terminals. The CPU in each remote terminal receives the various commands, stores them in electrically alterable memory, and reacts in accordance with the commands to reconfigure a plurality of aspects of the system. The CPU in each terminal also generates parameter measurements, status and health signals, and transmits these signals of the respective terminals to the monitor-terminal for low data rate operator viewing and to higher rate external transmission/monitor equipment. Reconfiguration may be in real time during the general period of parameter measurement acquisition, and may include alteration of the gain, automatic gain rescaling, bias, and or sampling rates associated with one or more of the parameter measurements made by the remote terminals

Thermal monitoring, measurement, and control system for a Volatile Condensable Materials (VCM) test apparatus

A thermal monitoring and control concept is described for a volatile condensable materials (VCM) test apparatus where electric resistance heaters are employed. The technique is computer based, but requires only proportioning ON/OFF relay control signals supplied through a programmable scanner and simple quadrac power controllers. System uniqueness is derived from automatic temperature measurements and the averaging of these measurements in discrete overlapping temperature zones. Overall control tolerance proves to be better than + or - 0.5 C from room ambient temperature to 150 C. Using precisely calibrated thermocouples, the method provides excellent temperature control of a small copper VCM heating plate at 125 + or - 0.2 C over a 24 hr test period. For purposes of unattended operation, the programmable computer/controller provides a continual data printout of system operation. Real time operator command is also provided for, as is automatic shutdown of the system and operator alarm in the event of malfunction

Code Generation from JGrafchart to ATMEL AVR

    Get PDF
This master thesis has been development at the Department of Automatic Control in Lund University between October 2003 and February 2004 under the supervision of Karl-Erik Årzen. The topic of this master thesis has been to investigate and implement the code generation for an AVR Mega8 microcontroller from JGrafchart, program development by the Department of Automatic Control. This project concerns two items. The first is the code generation for a subset of JGrafchart. The main goal is to obtain a C program that can be compiled for an ATMEL AVR Mega8 processor using the cross-compiler avr-gcc. The obtained program will follow the same execution model as JGrafchart. The second goal was to achieve a bidirectional communication between the host machine, a PC running JGrafchart, and the target machine, the AVR microcontroller. The on-line communication is necessary in order to provide animation of the execution in the target on the host and to provide user interface possibilities from the host to the target. To achieve the animation, a new execution model will be created in JGrafchart. Both, the code generation and the on-line communication have been development in Java language as part of JGrafchart
