    Multi-mode partitioning for text clustering to reduce dimensionality and noises

    Co-clustering in text mining has been proposed to partition words and documents simultaneously. Although the main advantage of this approach may improve interpretation of clusters on the data, there are still few proposals on these methods; while one-way partition is even now widely utilized for information retrieval. In contrast to structured information, textual data suffer of high dimensionality and sparse matrices, so it is strictly necessary to pre-process texts for applying clustering techniques. In this paper, we propose a new procedure to reduce high dimensionality of corpora and to remove the noises from the unstructured data. We test two different processes to treat data applying two co-clustering algorithms; based on the results we present the procedure that provides the best interpretation of the data

    Attitudes expressed in online comments about environmental factors in the tourism sector: an exploratory study

    The object of this exploratory study is to identify the positive, neutral and negative environment factors that affect users who visit Spanish hotels in order to help the hotel managers decide how to improve the quality of the services provided. To carry out the research a Sentiment Analysis was initially performed, grouping the sample of tweets (n = 14459) according to the feelings shown and then a textual analysis was used to identify the key environment factors in these feelings using the qualitative analysis software Nvivo (QSR International, Melbourne, Australia). The results of the exploratory study present the key environment factors that affect the users experience when visiting hotels in Spain, such as actions that support local traditions and products, the maintenance of rural areas respecting the local environment and nature, or respecting air quality in the areas where hotels have facilities and offer services. The conclusions of the research can help hotels improve their services and the impact on the environment, as well as improving the visitors experience based on the positive, neutral and negative environment factors which the visitors themselves identified

    Computer-based library or computer-based learning?

    Traditionally, libraries have played the role of repository of published information resources and, more recently, gateway to online subscription databases. The library online catalog and digital library interface serve an intermediary function to help users locate information resources available through the library. With competition from Web search engines and Web portals of various kinds available for free, the library has to step up to play a more active role as guide and coach to help users make use of information resources for learning or to accomplish particular tasks. It is no longer sufficient for computer-based library systems to provide just search and access functions. They must provide the functionality and environment to support learning and become computer-based learning systems. This paper examines the kind of learning support that can be incorporated in library online catalogs and digital libraries, including 1) enhanced support for information browsing and synthesis through linking by shared meta-data, references and concepts; 2) visualization of related information; 3) adoption of Library 2.0 and social technologies; 4) adoption of Library 3.0 technologies including intelligent processing and text mining
