The Effectiveness of Low-Level Structure-based Approach Toward Source Code Plagiarism Level Taxonomy
Low-level approach is a novel way to detect source code plagiarism. Such
approach is proven to be effective when compared to baseline approach (i.e., an
approach which relies on source code token subsequence matching) in controlled
environment. We evaluate the effectiveness of state of the art in low-level
approach based on Faidhi \& Robinson's plagiarism level taxonomy; real
plagiarism cases are employed as dataset in this work. Our evaluation shows
that state of the art in low-level approach is effective to handle most
plagiarism attacks. Further, it also outperforms its predecessor and baseline

Collaboration Versus Cheating
We outline how we detected programming plagiarism in an introductory online
course for a master's of science in computer science program, how we achieved a
statistically significant reduction in programming plagiarism by combining a
clear explanation of university and class policy on academic honesty reinforced
with a short but formal assessment, and how we evaluated plagiarism rates

Dynamic Thresholding Mechanisms for IR-Based Filtering in Efficient Source Code Plagiarism Detection
To solve time inefficiency issue, only potential pairs are compared in
string-matching-based source code plagiarism detection; wherein potentiality is
defined through a fast-yet-order-insensitive similarity measurement (adapted
from Information Retrieval) and only pairs which similarity degrees are higher
or equal to a particular threshold is selected. Defining such threshold is not
a trivial task considering the threshold should lead to high efficiency
improvement and low effectiveness reduction (if it is unavoidable). This paper
proposes two thresholding mechanisms---namely range-based and pair-count-based
mechanism---that dynamically tune the threshold based on the distribution of
resulted similarity degrees. According to our evaluation, both mechanisms are
more practical to be used than manual threshold assignment since they are more

AntiPlag: Plagiarism Detection on Electronic Submissions of Text Based Assignments
Plagiarism is one of the growing issues in academia and is always a concern
in Universities and other academic institutions. The situation is becoming even
worse with the availability of ample resources on the web. This paper focuses
on creating an effective and fast tool for plagiarism detection for text based
electronic assignments. Our plagiarism detection tool named AntiPlag is
developed using the tri-gram sequence matching technique. Three sets of text
based assignments were tested by AntiPlag and the results were compared against
an existing commercial plagiarism detection tool. AntiPlag showed better
results in terms of false positives compared to the commercial tool due to the
pre-processing steps performed in AntiPlag. In addition, to improve the
detection latency, AntiPlag applies a data clustering technique making it four
times faster than the commercial tool considered. AntiPlag could be used to
isolate plagiarized text based assignments from non-plagiarised assignments
easily. Therefore, we present AntiPlag, a fast and effective tool for
plagiarism detection on text based electronic assignments
A comparative analysis of web-based GIS applications using usability metrics
With the rapid expansion of the internet, Web-based Geographic Information System (WGIS) applications have gained popularity, despite the interface of the WGIS application being difficult to learn and understand because special functions are needed to manipulate the maps. Hence, it is essential to evaluate the usability of WGIS applications. Usability is an important factor in ensuring the development of quality, usable software products. On the other hand, there are a number of standards and models in the literature, each of which describes usability in terms of various set of attributes. These models are vague and difficult to understand. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to compare five common usability models (Shackel, Nielsen, ISO 9241 P-11, ISO 9126-1 and QUIM) to identify usability metrics that have most frequently used in the previous models. The questionnaire method and the automated usability evaluation method by using Loop11 tool were used, in order to evaluate the usability metrics for three case studies of commonly used WGIS applications as Google maps, Yahoo maps, and MapQuest. Finally, those case studies were compared and analysed based on usability metrics that have been identified. Based on a comparative study, four usability metrics (Effectiveness, Efficiency, Satisfaction and Learnability) were identified. Those usability metrics were characterized by consistent, comprehensive, not vaguely and proper to evaluate the usability of WGIS applications. In addition, there was a positive correlation between these usability metrics. The comparative analysis indicates that Effectiveness, Satisfaction and Learnability were higher, and the Efficiency was lesser by using the Loop11 tool compared to questionnaire method for the three case studies. In addition, Yahoo Maps and MapQuest have usability metrics rate lesser than Google Maps by applying two methods. Therefore, Google Maps is more usable compared to Yahoo Maps and MapQuest

Content delivery and challenges in education hybrid students
Traditionally, taught postgraduate programmes placed students in well-defined categories such as 'distance learning' and 'on-campus' or 'part-time' and 'full-time'. The practical reality is that postgraduate students rarely fall into such simple, diametric roles and can be more suitably generalised under the concept of the 'hybrid student'. Hybrid students are dynamic, with changing
requirements in relation to their education. They expect flexibility and the ability to make changes relating to module participation level, study mechanism and lecture attendance, in order to suit personal preference and circumstance. This paper briefly introduces the concept of the hybrid student and how the concept has been handled within the School of Electronic Engineering at DCU.
Following this, some discussion is provided in relation to a number of the content delivery technologies used in programmes facilitating these students: HTML, PowerPoint, Moodle, DocBook and Wiki. Finally, some of the general challenges, which have been encountered in supporting such
diverse students, are briefly discussed
