    An integrated computer-aided modular fixture design system for machining semi-circular parts

    Productivity is one of the most important factors in manufacturing processes because of the high level of market competition. In this regard, modular fixtures (MFs) play an important role in practically improving productivity in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) due to this technology using highly productive computer numerical control (CNC) machines. MFs consist of devices called jigs and fixtures for accurately holding the workpiece during different machining operations. The design process is complex, and traditional methods of MF design were not sufficiently productive. Computer-aided design (CAD) software has rapidly improved as a result of the development of computer technology, and has provided huge opportunities for modular fixture designers to use its 3D modelling capabilities to develop more automated systems. Computer-aided fixture design (CAFD) systems have become automated by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This study will investigate the further improvement of automated CAFD systems by using AI tools. In this research, an integrated CAFD is developed by considering four main requirements: · a 3D model of the workpiece, · an expert system, · assembly automation of MFs, · an efficient feature library. The 3D model is an important factor that can provide the appropriate specification of the workpiece; SolidWorks is used the CAD environment for undertaking the 3D modelling in this study. The expert system is applied as a tool to make right decisions about the CAFD planning process, including locating and clamping methods and their related element selection. This helps achieve a feasible fixture design layout. SolidWorks API and Visual Basic programming language are employed for the automating and simulation of the assembly process of MFs. A feature library of modular fixture elements is constructed as a means to simplify the fixture design process

    iVoLVER : Interactive Visual Language for Visualization Extraction and Reconstruction

    We present the design and implementation of iVoLVER, a tool that allows users to create visualizations without textual programming. iVoLVER is designed to enable flexible acquisition of many types of data (text, colors, shapes, quantities, dates) from multiple source types (bitmap charts, webpages, photographs, SVGs, CSV files) and, within the same canvas, supports transformation of that data through simple widgets to construct interactive animated visuals. Aside from the tool, which is web-based and designed for pen and touch, we contribute the design of the interactive visual language and widgets for extraction, transformation, and representation of data. We demonstrate the flexibility and expressive power of the tool through a set of scenarios, and discuss some of the challenges encountered and how the tool fits within the current infovis tool landscape.Postprin

    Health information technologies have greatly facilitated sharing of personal health data for secondary use, which is critical to medical and health research. However, there is a growing concern about privacy due to data sharing and publishing. Medical and health data typically contain unstructured text documents, such as clinical narratives, pathology reports, and discharge summaries. This study concerns privacy-preserving extraction, summary, and release of information from medical documents. Existing studies on privacy-preserving data mining and publishing focus mostly on structured data. We propose a novel approach to enable privacy-preserving extract, summarize, query and report patients’ demographic, health and medical information from medical documents. The extracted data is represented in a semi-structured, set-valued data format, which can be stored in a health information system for query and analysis.     A Novel Approach to Data Extraction on Hyperlinked Webpages

    The World Wide Web has an enormous amount of useful data presented as HTML tables. These tables are often linked to other web pages, providing further detailed information to certain attribute values. Extracting schema of such relational tables is a challenge due to the non-existence of a standard format and a lack of published algorithms. We downloaded 15,000 web pages using our in-house developed web-crawler, from various web sites. Tables from the HTML code were extracted and table rows were labeled with appropriate class labels. Conditional random fields (CRF) were used for the classification of table rows, and a nondeterministic finite automaton (NFA) algorithm was designed to identify simple, complex, hyperlinked, or non-linked tables. A simple schema for non-linked tables was extracted and for the linked-tables, relational schema in the form of primary and foreign-keys (PK and FK) were developed. Child tables were concatenated with the parent table’s attribute value (PK), serving as foreign keys (FKs). Resultantly, these tables could assist with performing better and stronger queries using the join operation. A manual checking of the linked web table results revealed a 99% precision and 68% recall values. Our 15,000-strong downloadable corpus and a novel algorithm will provide the basis for further research in this field.publishedVersio

Mit dem Thema "Grenzen überwinden – Virtualität erweitert Realität" stellt sich die Veranstaltung einem aktuellen Schwerpunkt, der viele Interessierte aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Forschung anzieht. Die Konferenz hat sich von einer Veranstaltung für die Masterstudenten des Studiengangs Medien- und Kommunikationsinformatik zu einer offenen Studentenkonferenz entwickelt. Um die Qualität weiter zu steigern wurde parallel dazu ein zweistufiges Review-Verfahren für Beiträge dieses Tagungsbandes eingeführt
