Construction of online catalog topologies using decision trees
Organization of a Web site is important to help users get the most out of the site. A good Web site should help visitors find the information they want easily. Visitors typically find information by searching for selected terms of interest or by following links from one Web page to another. The first approach is more useful if the visitor knows exactly what he is seeking, while the second approach is useful when the visitor has less of a preconceived notion about what he wants. The organization of a Web site is especially important in the latter case. Traditionally, Web site organization is done by hand. In this paper, we introduce the problem of automatic Web site construction and propose a solution for solving a major step of the problem based on decision tree algorithms. The solution is found to be useful in automatic construction of product catalogs.published_or_final_versio
Understanding Internet topology: principles, models, and validation
Building on a recent effort that combines a first-principles approach to modeling router-level connectivity with a more pragmatic use of statistics and graph theory, we show in this paper that for the Internet, an improved understanding of its physical infrastructure is possible by viewing the physical connectivity as an annotated graph that delivers raw connectivity and bandwidth to the upper layers in the TCP/IP protocol stack, subject to practical constraints (e.g., router technology) and economic considerations (e.g., link costs). More importantly, by relying on data from Abilene, a Tier-1 ISP, and the Rocketfuel project, we provide empirical evidence in support of the proposed approach and its consistency with networking reality. To illustrate its utility, we: 1) show that our approach provides insight into the origin of high variability in measured or inferred router-level maps; 2) demonstrate that it easily accommodates the incorporation of additional objectives of network design (e.g., robustness to router failure); and 3) discuss how it complements ongoing community efforts to reverse-engineer the Internet
Towards implementing integrated building product libraries
Electronic product catalogues and brochures are gaining
popularity but there is little agreement on content, format and
searching methods. This limits their usability and integration with
existing construction software tools. This paper examines a productmodelling
approach to delivering building product information and
describes a proposed multi-tier client-server environment. ISO/STEP
and IAI/IFC building product models are considered to facilitate
representation, exchange and sharing of product information. The
proposed architecture incorporates scalability with middleware
components that would provide single or few points of entry to
integrated product information. This paper is part of a research
project, which builds on the results of related projects including
ConstructIT Strategy, PROCAT-GEN, Active Catalog, COMBINE and ARROW,
towards implementing the required software components
Portraying the hosts: Stellar science from planet searches
Information on the full session can be found on this website: https://sites.google.com/site/portrayingthehostscs18/We present a compendium of the splinter session on stellar science from planet searches that was organized as part of the Cool Stars 18 conference. Seven speakers discussed techniques to infer stellar information from radial velocity, transit and microlensing data, as well as new instrumentation and missions designed for planet searches that will provide useful for the study of the cool stars
Methods and Applications of ChatGPT in Software Development: A Literature Review
This research paper explores the use of language models in software development that has gained significant attention in recent years. One of the most popular models is ChatGPT, a large language model trained by OpenAI. ChatGPT has been applied in some of the software development tasks, like programming Numerical methods, code generation, solving programming bugs, code completion and even in practicing for computer science exam. This paper presents a systematic review of the literature on the application of ChatGPT in software development. The review covers 12 studies that use ChatGPT in some fields of software development. We evaluate their results and the offering for the field. Overall, the findings of this review offer significant contributions to the current understanding and future direction of using ChatGPT in the domain of software development

PLOTTER: An independent computer program for the generation of graphical displays
A computer program is described for generating graphical information from input data or auxiliary analysis programs on a variety of graphical devices. Options are presented for tabulating the data in columnar format and for plotting auxiliary text in the vicinity of the plotted information. Display device selection is accomplished by interfacing the basic computer code through routines which convert the internally generated plot vectors to hardware commands for the display device. The plotting techniques employed in the computer program are discussed. User's instructions are presented with examples which illustrate the use of the program in generating plotted information from various sources and presenting the information in alternate plot formats. Technical discussion of the computer code is presented giving the physical characteristics, computer loading instructions and descriptions of the subroutines

Smart Environmental Data Infrastructures: Bridging the Gap between Earth Sciences and Citizens
The monitoring and forecasting of environmental conditions is a task to which much effort and resources are devoted by the scientific community and relevant authorities. Representative examples arise in meteorology, oceanography, and environmental engineering. As a consequence, high volumes of data are generated, which include data generated by earth observation systems and different kinds of models. Specific data models, formats, vocabularies and data access infrastructures have been developed and are currently being used by the scientific community. Due to this, discovering, accessing and analyzing environmental datasets requires very specific skills, which is an important barrier for their reuse in many other application domains. This paper reviews earth science data representation and access standards and technologies, and identifies the main challenges to overcome in order to enable their integration in semantic open data infrastructures. This would allow non-scientific information technology practitioners to devise new end-user solutions for citizen problems in new application domainsThis research was co-funded by (i) the TRAFAIR project (2017-EU-IA-0167), co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union, (ii) the RADAR-ON-RAIA project (0461_RADAR_ON_RAIA_1_E) co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Iterreg V-A Spain-Portugal program (POCTEP) 2014-2020, and (iii) the Consellería de Educación, Universidade e Formación Profesional of the regional government of Galicia (Spain), through the support for research groups with growth potential (ED431B 2018/28)S
