This paper made an extended review about the quality parameters in the fiber-to-fabric process, fabrics defects detection terminologies applied on major three clusters of fabric defects knitting, woven and sewing fabric defects. And this paper also explains about the statistical performance measures which are used to analyze the defect detection process.     TOWARD INTELLIGENT WELDING BY BUILDING ITS DIGITAL TWIN

    To meet the increasing requirements for production on individualization, efficiency and quality, traditional manufacturing processes are evolving to smart manufacturing with the support from the information technology advancements including cyber-physical systems (CPS), Internet of Things (IoT), big industrial data, and artificial intelligence (AI). The pre-requirement for integrating with these advanced information technologies is to digitalize manufacturing processes such that they can be analyzed, controlled, and interacted with other digitalized components. Digital twin is developed as a general framework to do that by building the digital replicas for the physical entities. This work takes welding manufacturing as the case study to accelerate its transition to intelligent welding by building its digital twin and contributes to digital twin in the following two aspects (1) increasing the information analysis and reasoning ability by integrating deep learning; (2) enhancing the human user operative ability to physical welding manufacturing via digital twins by integrating human-robot interaction (HRI). Firstly, a digital twin of pulsed gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW-P) is developed by integrating deep learning to offer the strong feature extraction and analysis ability. In such a system, the direct information including weld pool images, arc images, welding current and arc voltage is collected by cameras and arc sensors. The undirect information determining the welding quality, i.e., weld joint top-side bead width (TSBW) and back-side bead width (BSBW), is computed by a traditional image processing method and a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) respectively. Based on that, the weld joint geometrical size is controlled to meet the quality requirement in various welding conditions. In the meantime, this developed digital twin is visualized to offer a graphical user interface (GUI) to human users for their effective and intuitive perception to physical welding processes. Secondly, in order to enhance the human operative ability to the physical welding processes via digital twins, HRI is integrated taking virtual reality (VR) as the interface which could transmit the information bidirectionally i.e., transmitting the human commends to welding robots and visualizing the digital twin to human users. Six welders, skilled and unskilled, tested this system by completing the same welding job but demonstrate different patterns and resulted welding qualities. To differentiate their skill levels (skilled or unskilled) from their demonstrated operations, a data-driven approach, FFT-PCA-SVM as a combination of fast Fourier transform (FFT), principal component analysis (PCA), and support vector machine (SVM) is developed and demonstrates the 94.44% classification accuracy. The robots can also work as an assistant to help the human welders to complete the welding tasks by recognizing and executing the intended welding operations. This is done by a developed human intention recognition algorithm based on hidden Markov model (HMM) and the welding experiments show that developed robot-assisted welding can help to improve welding quality. To further take the advantages of the robots i.e., movement accuracy and stability, the role of the robot upgrades to be a collaborator from an assistant to complete a subtask independently i.e., torch weaving and automatic seam tracking in weaving GTAW. The other subtask i.e., welding torch moving along the weld seam is completed by the human users who can adjust the travel speed to control the heat input and ensure the good welding quality. By doing that, the advantages of humans (intelligence) and robots (accuracy and stability) are combined together under this human-robot collaboration framework. The developed digital twin for welding manufacturing helps to promote the next-generation intelligent welding and can be applied in other similar manufacturing processes easily after small modifications including painting, spraying and additive manufacturing

    Coimbatore is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu located on the banks of the Noyyal River surrounded by the Western Ghats. It is one of the biggest centers of textile manufacturing in India. A fast-growing metropolitan area city, it is home to over 25,000 textile and manufacturing companies and has spawned many new centers of textiles around it. Textile fabric automation and manufacturing has been of great concern over the past decade. This is a remarkable task because of the accidental changes of fabric material properties. Due to the increasing demand of consumers for high-quality textile products, an automatic and objective evaluation of the fabric texture appearance is necessary with respect to geometric structure characteristics, surface, and mechanical properties. The precise measurement of the fabric texture parameters, such as weave structure and yarn counts find wide applications in the textile industry, virtual environments, e-commerce, and robotic telemanipulation. The weave pattern and the yarn count are analyzed and determined for computer simulated sample images and also for the scanned real fabric images. 2-D integral projections are used to identify the accurate structure of the woven fabric and to determine the yarn count. They are used for segmenting the crossed areas of yarns and also to detect the defects like crossed area due to the random distribution of yarns. Fuzzy C-Means Clustering (FCM) is applied to multiscale texture features based on the Grey Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) to classify the different crossed-area states.     Defect detection in textured materials using optimized filters

    The problem of automated defect detection in textured materials is investigated. A new approach for defect detection using linear FIR filters with optimized energy separation is proposed. Performance of different feature separation criterion with reference to fabric defects has been evaluated. The issues relating to the design of optimal filters for supervised and unsupervised web inspection are addressed. A general web inspection system based on the optimal filters is proposed. The experiments on this new approach have yielded excellent results. The low computational requirement confirms the usefulness of the approach for industrial inspection.published_or_final_versio

    Visual Prototyping of Cloth

    Realistic visualization of cloth has many applications in computer graphics. An ongoing research problem is how to best represent and capture appearance models of cloth, especially when considering computer aided design of cloth. Previous methods can be used to produce highly realistic images, however, possibilities for cloth-editing are either restricted or require the measurement of large material databases to capture all variations of cloth samples. We propose a pipeline for designing the appearance of cloth directly based on those elements that can be changed within the production process. These are optical properties of fibers, geometrical properties of yarns and compositional elements such as weave patterns. We introduce a geometric yarn model, integrating state-of-the-art textile research. We further present an approach to reverse engineer cloth and estimate parameters for a procedural cloth model from single images. This includes the automatic estimation of yarn paths, yarn widths, their variation and a weave pattern. We demonstrate that we are able to match the appearance of original cloth samples in an input photograph for several examples. Parameters of our model are fully editable, enabling intuitive appearance design. Unfortunately, such explicit fiber-based models can only be used to render small cloth samples, due to large storage requirements. Recently, bidirectional texture functions (BTFs) have become popular for efficient photo-realistic rendering of materials. We present a rendering approach combining the strength of a procedural model of micro-geometry with the efficiency of BTFs. We propose a method for the computation of synthetic BTFs using Monte Carlo path tracing of micro-geometry. We observe that BTFs usually consist of many similar apparent bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (ABRDFs). By exploiting structural self-similarity, we can reduce rendering times by one order of magnitude. This is done in a process we call non-local image reconstruction, which has been inspired by non-local means filtering. Our results indicate that synthesizing BTFs is highly practical and may currently only take a few minutes for small BTFs. We finally propose a novel and general approach to physically accurate rendering of large cloth samples. By using a statistical volumetric model, approximating the distribution of yarn fibers, a prohibitively costly, explicit geometric representation is avoided. As a result, accurate rendering of even large pieces of fabrics becomes practical without sacrificing much generality compared to fiber-based techniques

    Visualization of the spatial and spectral signals of orb-weaving spiders, Nephila pilipes, through the eyes of a honeybee

    [[abstract]]It is well known that the honeybee has good color vision. However, the spectral range in which the bee can see is different from that of the human eye. To study how bees view their world of colors, one has to see through the eyes of the bee, not the eyes of a human. A conventional way to examine the color signals that animals can detect is to measure the surface reflectance spectra and compute the quantum catches of each photoreceptor type based on its known spectral sensitivity. Color signal and color contrast are then determined from the loci of these quantum catches in the color space. While the point-by-point measurements of the reflectance spectra using a standard spectrometer have yielded a significant amount of data for analyzing color signals, the lack of spatial information and low sampling efficiency constrain their applications. Using a special filter coating technique, a set of filters with transmission spectra that were closely matched to the bee's sensitivity spectra of three photoreceptor types (UV, blue, and green) was custom made. By placing these filters in front of a UV/VIS-sensitive CCD camera and acquiring images sequentially, we could collect images of a bee's receptor with only three shots. This allowed a direct visualization of how bees view their world in a pseudo-color RGB display. With this imaging system, spatial and spectral signals of the orb-weaving spider, Nephila pilipes, were recorded, and color contrast images corresponding to the bee's spatial resolution were constructed and analyzed. The result not only confirmed that the color markings of N. pilipes are of high chromatic contrast to the eyes of a bee, but it also indicated that the spatial arrangement of these markings resemble flower patterns which may attract bees to visit them. Thus, it is likely that the orb-weaving spider (N. pilipes) deploys a similar strategy to that of the Australian crab spider (Thomisus spectabilis) to exploit the bee's pre-existing preference for flowers with color patterning.[[fileno]]2050130010023[[department]]生科
