Paper Session II-A - Predictive Health & Reliability Management (PHARM)

    Get PDF
PHARM was developed to address operational costs associated with Space Shuttle component failures, repair, and/or replacement processes by identifying components trending toward failure. Thus PHARM mitigates impacts to operational testing and mission performances by providing realistic need dates and historical performance data for component repair/replacement decisions and logistic provisioning. BRSS developed under an IR&D and NASA contract an OMS Vehicle Health Management testbed using qualification hardware in flight configuration. The testbed performs a complete and total automated checkout of an OMS Helium pressurization system. In the course of the automated checkout, key component performance data is saved, correlated and used to develop, prove, and demonstrate PHARM technologies. Via data acquisition, PHARM provides trending and forecasting capabilities for mission scheduling

    Online Document Tracking System

Online Document Tracking System (ODTS) is a web based system that enables student from UTP to retrieve and view all previous final year projects of CIS department. The system is developed in accordance to the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method over the course of 14 weeks. Through the use of this website, student could access the FYP documents anywhere regardless location. Currently, the management archival of the final year projects are done by manual means that involves physical storage. With the development of this web based application, the department could take advantage of the automated system and saves a substantial amount of time in archiving those documents. The output of this project would to an extent, help and improve the business process of storing and retrieving the final year projects documents, hence maximizing productivity

The Embedded Librarian: Integrating Library Resources into Course Management Systems

    Get PDF
Duke University librarians have collaborated with Instructional Technology staff to integrate subject-specific library resources into Blackboard, the university’s course management system. What began as a manual process on a small scale has grown to an automated process in which every course offered at Duke is linked to a subject-specific LibGuide developed by a subject specialist or instruction librarian. Guides may include instructional tutorials on using Duke’s databases, tips for conducting subject-specific searches and librarians’ contact information. Success of the project has been assessed through student surveys, faculty interviews and focus groups; feedback from students, faculty and librarians alike has been overwhelmingly positive. This presentation will detail the collaborative efforts of Duke University librarians, Center for Instructional Technology applications staff and Systems support staff that have enabled Duke’s librarians to establish an instructional presence in virtually every course site at Duke. This has led to increased – and richer – online and in-person instructional opportunities and interactions with students and faculty. This session will include the history of project, the role it plays in instruction at Duke, assessment measures used, and a brief overview of the technical components necessary for automation. There will also be time for audience members to share their experiences integrating library resources into their institutions\u27 course management systems

DEVELOPMENT OF THE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF ORDERS OF THE COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATION OF THE STAFF WORK

In the course of the study, the activity of Ukrainian enterprises was analyzed. It was revealed that the main aspects that require increased attention, regardless of the industry, are staff management and order management. The activity of any enterprise consists of fulfilling orders and, as a consequence, satisfying customers. It is proposed to develop an automated system that will enable to keep records of orders, namely: the time of order receipt, the number of products, the urgency, the necessary material and time resources, the priority of the order, the executor, the predicted and actual time of the order. This system will help to organize the work of staff, namely: to optimize the working hours of employees due to the dynamic scheduling of the task list; to introduce responsibility for an order that is tied to a specific employee, to keep records of shifts and working hours, automatically form a payroll with due account of worked shifts/hours. The work designed an automated system for managing orders and staff at middle-class enterprises. The requirements for this system are defined and two types of architecture are proposed. For a better understanding of the design phase of the automated system, a class diagram, activity diagram and interaction diagrams are presented. In the process of research, the end product was created with a user-friendly and intuitive user interface that maximally satisfies all the requirements that have been defined for this system. For today the system works in a test mode at the enterprise of Ukraine. The introduction of the system to the filter element manufacturing company allowed to improve the interaction with customers by 40 % due to faster fulfillment of orders; 80 % facilitate the work of managers to track and control the execution of orders; and also, by 20% increase the efficiency of the staff department. What on the whole positively affected the work of the enterprise as a whole

A proposal for enhancing the motivation in students of computer programming

Computer programming is known to be one of the most difficult courses for students in the first year of engineering. They are faced with the challenge of abstract thinking and gaining programming skills for the first time. These skills are acquired by continuous practicing from the start of the course. In order to enhance the motivation and dynamism of the learning and assessment processes, we have proposed the use of three educational resources namely screencasts, self-assessment questionnaires and automated grading of assignments. These resources have been made available in Moodle which is a Learning Management System widely used in education environments and adopted by the Telecommunications Engineering School at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Both teachers and students can enhance the learning and assessment processes through the use of new educational activities such as self-assessment questionnaires and automated grading of assignments. On the other hand, multimedia resources such as screencasts can guide students in complex topics. The resources proposed allow teachers to improve their tutorial actions since they provide immediate feedback and comments to students without the enormous effort of manual correction and evaluation by teachers specially taking into account the large number of students enrolled in the course. In this paper we present the case study where three proposed educational resources were applied. We describe the special features of the course and explain why the use of these resources can both enhance the students? motivation and improve the teaching and learning processes. Our research work was carried out on students attending the "Computer programming" course offered in the first year of a Telecommunications Engineering degree at UPM. This course is mandatory and has more than 450 enrolled students. Our purpose is to encourage the motivation and dynamism of the learning and assessment processes
