A knowledge graph embeddings based approach for author name disambiguation using literals
Scholarly data is growing continuously containing information about the articles from a plethora of venues including conferences, journals, etc. Many initiatives have been taken to make scholarly data available in the form of Knowledge Graphs (KGs). These efforts to standardize these data and make them accessible have also led to many challenges such as exploration of scholarly articles, ambiguous authors, etc. This study more specifically targets the problem of Author Name Disambiguation (AND) on Scholarly KGs and presents a novel framework, Literally Author Name Disambiguation (LAND), which utilizes Knowledge Graph Embeddings (KGEs) using multimodal literal information generated from these KGs. This framework is based on three components: (1) multimodal KGEs, (2) a blocking procedure, and finally, (3) hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering. Extensive experiments have been conducted on two newly created KGs: (i) KG containing information from Scientometrics Journal from 1978 onwards (OC-782K), and (ii) a KG extracted from a well-known benchmark for AND provided by AMiner (AMiner-534K). The results show that our proposed architecture outperforms our baselines of 8–14% in terms of F1 score and shows competitive performances on a challenging benchmark such as AMiner. Hi, how can I help you?: Automating enterprise IT support help desks
Question answering is one of the primary challenges of natural language
understanding. In realizing such a system, providing complex long answers to
questions is a challenging task as opposed to factoid answering as the former
needs context disambiguation. The different methods explored in the literature
can be broadly classified into three categories namely: 1) classification
based, 2) knowledge graph based and 3) retrieval based. Individually, none of
them address the need of an enterprise wide assistance system for an IT support
and maintenance domain. In this domain the variance of answers is large ranging
from factoid to structured operating procedures; the knowledge is present
across heterogeneous data sources like application specific documentation,
ticket management systems and any single technique for a general purpose
assistance is unable to scale for such a landscape. To address this, we have
built a cognitive platform with capabilities adopted for this domain. Further,
we have built a general purpose question answering system leveraging the
platform that can be instantiated for multiple products, technologies in the
support domain. The system uses a novel hybrid answering model that
orchestrates across a deep learning classifier, a knowledge graph based context
disambiguation module and a sophisticated bag-of-words search system. This
orchestration performs context switching for a provided question and also does
a smooth hand-off of the question to a human expert if none of the automated
techniques can provide a confident answer. This system has been deployed across

A Survey on Knowledge Graphs: Representation, Acquisition and Applications
Human knowledge provides a formal understanding of the world. Knowledge
graphs that represent structural relations between entities have become an
increasingly popular research direction towards cognition and human-level
intelligence. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive review of knowledge
graph covering overall research topics about 1) knowledge graph representation
learning, 2) knowledge acquisition and completion, 3) temporal knowledge graph,
and 4) knowledge-aware applications, and summarize recent breakthroughs and
perspective directions to facilitate future research. We propose a full-view
categorization and new taxonomies on these topics. Knowledge graph embedding is
organized from four aspects of representation space, scoring function, encoding
models, and auxiliary information. For knowledge acquisition, especially
knowledge graph completion, embedding methods, path inference, and logical rule
reasoning, are reviewed. We further explore several emerging topics, including
meta relational learning, commonsense reasoning, and temporal knowledge graphs.
To facilitate future research on knowledge graphs, we also provide a curated
collection of datasets and open-source libraries on different tasks. In the
end, we have a thorough outlook on several promising research directions
Survey on Evaluation Methods for Dialogue Systems
In this paper we survey the methods and concepts developed for the evaluation
of dialogue systems. Evaluation is a crucial part during the development
process. Often, dialogue systems are evaluated by means of human evaluations
and questionnaires. However, this tends to be very cost and time intensive.
Thus, much work has been put into finding methods, which allow to reduce the
involvement of human labour. In this survey, we present the main concepts and
methods. For this, we differentiate between the various classes of dialogue
systems (task-oriented dialogue systems, conversational dialogue systems, and
question-answering dialogue systems). We cover each class by introducing the
main technologies developed for the dialogue systems and then by presenting the
evaluation methods regarding this class
