    HUMAN-AI COLLABORATION IN ORGANISATIONS: A LITERATURE REVIEW ON ENABLING VALUE CREATION

    The augmentation of human intellect and capability with artificial intelligence is integral to the advancement of next generation human-machine collaboration technologies designed to drive performance improvement and innovation. Yet we have limited understanding of how organisations can translate this potential into creating sustainable business value. We conduct an in-depth literature review of interdisciplinary research on the challenges and opportunities in organisational adoption of human-AI collaboration for value creation. We identify five positions central to how organisations can integrate and align the socio-technical challenges of augmented collaboration, namely strategic positioning, human engagement, organisational evolution, technology development and intelligence building. We synthesise the findings by means of an integrated model that focuses organisations on building the requisite internal microfoundations for the systematic management of augmented systems

    From rituals to magic: Interactive art and HCI of the past, present, and future

    The connection between art and technology is much tighter than is commonly recognized. The emergence of aesthetic computing in the early 2000s has brought renewed focus on this relationship. In this article, we articulate how art and Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) are compatible with each other and actually essential to advance each other in this era, by briefly addressing interconnected components in both areas—interaction, creativity, embodiment, affect, and presence. After briefly introducing the history of interactive art, we discuss how art and HCI can contribute to one another by illustrating contemporary examples of art in immersive environments, robotic art, and machine intelligence in art. Then, we identify challenges and opportunities for collaborative efforts between art and HCI. Finally, we reiterate important implications and pose future directions. This article is intended as a catalyst to facilitate discussions on the mutual benefits of working together in the art and HCI communities. It also aims to provide artists and researchers in this domain with suggestions about where to go next

    AI MANAGEMENT BEYOND THE NARRATIVES OF DYSTOPIAN NIGHTMARES AND UTOPIAN DREAMS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND SYNTHESIS OF THE LITERATURE

    Over the years, AI management has attracted significant interest from researchers rooted in diverse disciplines, including information systems, computer science, strategy, and economics.Despite scholars in these fields addressing many similar research questions and empirical contexts, often applying similar methodologies, the literature has largely developed in an isolated fashion. Moreover, AI’s anticipated trajectory has often been painted in deeply optimistic or pessimistic terms. This article offers a systematic review of the AI management literature, based on analysis of a sample of articles published between 2010 and 2021. The review contributes by: documenting the literature’s evolution, outlining four key research themes in the literature, and highlighting several areas for future research. The aim is to foster broader understanding of AI management research that helps to advance our knowledge of AI and its management beyond dystopian nightmares and utopian dreams

    Examining Aesthetic Subjectivity in Embodied Environments

    This inquiry has been concerned with identifying aesthetic languages that make visible relationships and processes that connect body and world beyond the surface of the skin. It hypothesised that aesthetic language provides a material connection which co-enables this exchange. Examining the aesthetic dimension of the embodiment-environment intersection, this inquiry reasoned, could make tangible the material continuum generated through transient processes of living. The key sites of the home and the landscape framed the scope of this research. The methodology used to undertake this research combined multi-artform practice spanning sculpture, video, installation, and drawing, visual diary-led observation and critical reflection, theoretical research, and critical engagement with the work of other artists and practitioners working in two- and three-dimensions. An examination of subjectivity and of aesthetics as an intersection of body and world centres this research. A new materialist perspective provides a logic and drive for scrutinising this intersection. New materialism unsettles traditional assumptions about the passivity of matter. It provides a framework for re-imagining the materiality of the world and the position of human subjectivity within it: a re-imagining, this research contends, that the current ecological crisis demands. The notion of aesthetics used in this inquiry is an embodied aesthetics that refers to the meaningful sensuousness that adheres and orients the body in the world. Ideas from John Dewey and the field of everyday aesthetics informed critical engagement in this embodied aesthetics through creative practice. This approach enabled a dialogue between special aesthetic experiences, everyday aesthetics, and habitual perception to emerge in the research. This research used aesthetics to examine how spaces are demarcated and different experiences enabled. Over time, the home as it is situated within the landscape became analogous for the body’s intertwining with the environment. In this context, the material passage of water through the home provided a powerful and instructive embodiment of this intertwining, revealing both the demarcation and the continuity of disparate spaces. The final body of artwork is an installation that integrates the key aesthetic languages developed through this inquiry to form a three-dimensional river that is animated with the everyday sounds of water and the textures of domestic warmth. It is titled Oikos, the Greek root for ecology. ‘Oikos’ means ‘whole house and dwelling place’. The artwork reflects the multi-layering of aesthetic relationships through which our bodies fuse with this world

    Semantic linking through spaces for cyber-physical-socio intelligence:a methodology

    Humans consciously and subconsciously establish various links, emerge semantic images and reason in mind, learn linking effect and rules, select linked individuals to interact, and form closed loops through links while co-experiencing in multiple spaces in lifetime. Machines are limited in these abilities although various graph-based models have been used to link resources in the cyber space. The following are fundamental limitations of machine intelligence: (1) machines know few links and rules in the physical space, physiological space, psychological space, socio space and mental space, so it is not realistic to expect machines to discover laws and solve problems in these spaces; and, (2) machines can only process pre-designed algorithms and data structures in the cyber space. They are limited in ability to go beyond the cyber space, to learn linking rules, to know the effect of linking, and to explain computing results according to physical, physiological, psychological and socio laws. Linking various spaces will create a complex space — the Cyber-Physical-Physiological-Psychological-Socio-Mental Environment CP3SME. Diverse spaces will emerge, evolve, compete and cooperate with each other to extend machine intelligence and human intelligence. From multi-disciplinary perspective, this paper reviews previous ideas on various links, introduces the concept of cyber-physical society, proposes the ideal of the CP3SME including its definition, characteristics, and multi-disciplinary revolution, and explores the methodology of linking through spaces for cyber-physical-socio intelligence. The methodology includes new models, principles, mechanisms, scientific issues, and philosophical explanation. The CP3SME aims at an ideal environment for humans to live and work.
