    Augmented Reality in Information Systems Research: A Systematic Literature Review

    Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the most prominent emerging technologies recently. This increase in recognition has happened predominantly because of the success of the smartphone game Pokémon Go . But research on AR is not a new strand of literature. Especially computer scientists investigate different technological solutions and areas of application for almost 30 years. This systematic literature review aims at analyzing, synthesizing and categorizing this strand of research in the information systems (IS) domain. We follow an established methodology for conducting the literature review ensuring rigor and replicability. We apply a keyword and backward search resulting in 28 and 118 articles, respectively. Results are categorized with regard to the focus of the research and the domain of the application being investigated. We show that research on user behavior is underrepresented in the current IS literature on AR compared to technical research, especially in the domains gaming and smartphone browsers

    The applications of augmented reality technologies in mathematics education

    Recent research in the area of multimedia conducted by the authors in Australia, Japan and North America has re-confirmed the importance and effectiveness of visual features in teaching and learning materials. According to the findings, the visual aspects and interaction with the multimedia systems are the most preferred features amongst the surveyed students. In all of these studies, the surveyed students have also indicated that the visual features play a very important role in understanding the concepts. Based on these findings, the authors have embarked on an investigation to determine the practical and innovative uses of the technologies associated with augmented reality. A very typical augmented reality product is Google Glass. Hence, this paper has initiated a study on the possible contributions this amazing device can make to mathematics education. It has been shown that Google Glass can assist leaners to access and share information, connect and engage in discussions with others by utilising a more human-like interface

    Being a tourist in a foreign country is an adventure full of memories and experiences, but it can be truly challenging when it comes to communication. Finding yourself in an unknown place, where all the road signs and guidelines have such different characters, may end up in a dead end or with some unexpected results. Then, what if we could use a smartphone to read that restaurant menu? Or even find the right department in a mall? The applications are so many and the market is ready to invest and give opportunities to creative and economic ideas. The dissertation intends to explore the field of Augmented Reality, while helping the user to enrich his view with information. Giving the ability to look around, detect the text in the surroundings and read its translation in our own dialect, is a great step to overcome language issues. Moreover, using smartphones at anyone’s reach, or wearing smartglasses that are even less intrusive, gives a chance to engage a complex matter in a daily routine. This technology requires flexible, accurate and fast Optical Character Recognition and Translation systems, in an Internet of Things scenery. Quality and precision is a must, yet to be further developed and improved. Entering in a realtime digital data environment, will support great causes and aid the progress and evolution of many intervention areas

Moreover, any text aiming at explaining the Digital Transformation by presenting a snapshot is going to become obsolete in a blink of an eye, most likely to be already obsolete at the time it is first published. The FDC Initiative on Digital Reality felt there is a need to look at the Digital Transformation from the point of view of a profound change that is pervading the entire society—a change made possible by technology and that keeps changing due to technology evolution opening new possibilities but is also a change happening because it has strong economic reasons. The direction of this change is not easy to predict because it is steered by a cultural evolution of society, an evolution that is happening in niches and that may expand rapidly to larger constituencies and as rapidly may fade away.     The Effect of using Augmented Reality Technology on the Cognitive Holding Power and the Attitude Towards it Among Middle School Students in Al-Qurayyat Governorate, Saudi Arabia

    The current study was to use augmented reality technology (ART) in the science course (SC) at the middle school level in Al-Qurayyat Governorate, Saudi Arabia, and to assess how it affected the students attitudes toward AR (ATAR) and cognitive holding power (CHP). The ART is utilized to enhance learning results, particularly when generating challenging, novel, and abstract scientific theories. The CHP measure, and the ATAR measure were developed for this research. 58 school students took part in this study. They have been split into two categories: the experimental group was in group one, and the control group was in group two. In each group, there were 29 students. Whereas the second group learned the SC through the conventional approach, the first group did it using ART. The outcomes demonstrated the first group (Experimental group) superiority. The study suggested that in order to improve students understanding of scientific topics, it is essential to increase knowledge of the value of ART

    Cloud computing represents a fundamental shift in the way information services are provided but with its unique architecture comes additional security challenges, many of which are technical in nature. However, the paradigm shift also presents new challenges, which are non-technical and whether or not companies actually consider all of these issues in moving to the cloud is a matter of concern. This paper attempts to elevate the notion of cloud security consciousness (CSC) in the domain of small firms with a goal of introducing a level of innateness into the concept in its practical use. By synthesising CSC with various behavioural theories including coping theory, we seek to place CSC and the coping process at the centre of a security-centric cognitive framework for cloud adoption, while recognising that such coping processes are heavily shaped by both social influence and self-efficacy factors

    New technology has been seen as a way for many businesses in the tourism industry to stay competitive and enhance their marketing campaign in various ways. AR has evolved as the buzzword of modern information technology and is gaining increasing attention in the media as well as through a variety of use cases. This trend is highly fostered across mobile applications as well as the hype of wearable computing triggered by Google’s Glass project to be launched in 2014. However, although research on AR has been conducted in various fields including the Urban Tourism industry, the majority of studies focus on technical aspects of AR, while others are tailored to specific applications. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the current implementation of AR in the Urban Tourism context and identifies areas of research and development that is required to guide the early stages of AR implementation in a purposeful way to enhance the tourist experience. The paper provides an overview of AR and examines the impacts AR has made on the economy. Hence, AR applications in Urban Tourism are identified and benefits of AR are discussed
