    Two-Stage Optimal Hypotheses Testing for a Model of Stegosystem with an Active Adversary

    We study the information-theoretic model of stegosystem with an active adversary, where unlike a passive adversary he can not only read but also write. The legitimate sender as well as the adversary can embed or not a message in the sending data. The receiver’s first task is to decide whether the communication is a covertext, data with no hidden message, or a stegotext, modified data with a hidden secret message. In case of stegotext, the receiver’s second task is to decide whether the message was sent by a legitimate sender or from an adversary. For this purpose an authenticated encryption from the legitimate sender is considered.In this paper we suggest two-stage statistical hypothesis testing approach from the receivers point of view. We propose the logarithmically asymptotically optimal testing for this model. As a result the functional dependence of reliabilities of the first and second kind of errors in both stages is constructed. A comparison of overall error probabilities with the situation of one stage hypotheses testing is discussed and the behaviour of functional dependences of reliabilities are illustrated

    Advances in Syndrome Coding based on Stochastic and Deterministic Matrices for Steganography

    Steganographie ist die Kunst der vertraulichen Kommunikation. Anders als in der Kryptographie, wo der Austausch vertraulicher Daten fĂŒr Dritte offensichtlich ist, werden die vertraulichen Daten in einem steganographischen System in andere, unauffĂ€llige Coverdaten (z.B. Bilder) eingebettet und so an den EmpfĂ€nger ĂŒbertragen. Ziel eines steganographischen Algorithmus ist es, die Coverdaten nur geringfĂŒgig zu Ă€ndern, um deren statistische Merkmale zu erhalten, und möglichst in unauffĂ€lligen Teilen des Covers einzubetten. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, werden verschiedene AnsĂ€tze der so genannten minimum-embedding-impact Steganographie basierend auf Syndromkodierung vorgestellt. Es wird dabei zwischen AnsĂ€tzen basierend auf stochastischen und auf deterministischen Matrizen unterschieden. Anschließend werden die Algorithmen bewertet, um Vorteile der Anwendung von Syndromkodierung herauszustellen

    Asymptotically Optimum Perfect Universal Steganography of Finite Memoryless Sources

    A solution to the problem of asymptotically optimum perfect universal steganography of finite memoryless sources with a passive warden is provided, which is then extended to contemplate a distortion constraint. The solution rests on the fact that Slepian’s Variant I permutation coding implements firstorder perfect universal steganography of finite host signals with optimum embedding rate. The duality between perfect universal steganography with asymptotically optimum embedding rate and lossless universal source coding with asymptotically optimum compression rate is evinced in practice by showing that permutation coding can be implemented by means of adaptive arithmetic coding. Next, a distortion constraint between the host signal and the information-carrying signal is considered. Such a constraint is essential whenever real-world host signals with memory (e.g., images, audio, or video) are decorrelated to conform to the memoryless assumption. The constrained version of the problem requires trading off embedding rate and distortion. Partitioned permutation coding is shown to be a practical way to implement this trade-off, performing close to an unattainable upper bound on the rate-distortion function of the problem.Science Foundation Irelan

    The signal processing task is a very critical issue in the majority of new technological inventions and challenges in a variety of applications in both science and engineering fields. Classical signal processing techniques have largely worked with mathematical models that are linear, local, stationary, and Gaussian. They have always favored closed-form tractability over real-world accuracy. These constraints were imposed by the lack of powerful computing tools. During the last few decades, signal processing theories, developments, and applications have matured rapidly and now include tools from many areas of mathematics, computer science, physics, and engineering. This book is targeted primarily toward both students and researchers who want to be exposed to a wide variety of signal processing techniques and algorithms. It includes 27 chapters that can be categorized into five different areas depending on the application at hand. These five categories are ordered to address image processing, speech processing, communication systems, time-series analysis, and educational packages respectively. The book has the advantage of providing a collection of applications that are completely independent and self-contained; thus, the interested reader can choose any chapter and skip to another without losing continuity

    Attitudes towards old age and age of retirement across the world: findings from the future of retirement survey

    The 21st century has been described as the first era in human history when the world will no longer be young and there will be drastic changes in many aspects of our lives including socio-demographics, financial and attitudes towards the old age and retirement. This talk will introduce briefly about the Global Ageing Survey (GLAS) 2004 and 2005 which is also popularly known as “The Future of Retirement”. These surveys provide us a unique data source collected in 21 countries and territories that allow researchers for better understanding the individual as well as societal changes as we age with regard to savings, retirement and healthcare. In 2004, approximately 10,000 people aged 18+ were surveyed in nine counties and one territory (Brazil, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico, UK and USA). In 2005, the number was increased to twenty-one by adding Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey and South Korea). Moreover, an additional 6320 private sector employers was surveyed in 2005, some 300 in each country with a view to elucidating the attitudes of employers to issues relating to older workers. The paper aims to examine the attitudes towards the old age and retirement across the world and will indicate some policy implications
