The Web as an Adaptive Network: Coevolution of Web Behavior and Web Structure
Much is known about the complex network structure of the Web, and about behavioral dynamics on the Web. A number of studies address how behaviors on the Web are affected by different network topologies, whilst others address how the behavior of users on the Web alters network topology. These represent complementary directions of influence, but they are generally not combined within any one study. In network science, the study of the coupled interaction between topology and behavior, or state-topology coevolution, is known as 'adaptive networks', and is a rapidly developing area of research. In this paper, we review the case for considering the Web as an adaptive network and several examples of state-topology coevolution on the Web. We also review some abstract results from recent literature in adaptive networks and discuss their implications for Web Science. We conclude that adaptive networks provide a formal framework for characterizing processes acting 'on' and 'of' the Web, and offers potential for identifying general organizing principles that seem otherwise illusive in Web Scienc
Sequential Keystroke Behavioral Biometrics for Mobile User Identification via Multi-view Deep Learning
With the rapid growth in smartphone usage, more organizations begin to focus
on providing better services for mobile users. User identification can help
these organizations to identify their customers and then cater services that
have been customized for them. Currently, the use of cookies is the most common
form to identify users. However, cookies are not easily transportable (e.g.,
when a user uses a different login account, cookies do not follow the user).
This limitation motivates the need to use behavior biometric for user
identification. In this paper, we propose DEEPSERVICE, a new technique that can
identify mobile users based on user's keystroke information captured by a
special keyboard or web browser. Our evaluation results indicate that
DEEPSERVICE is highly accurate in identifying mobile users (over 93% accuracy).
The technique is also efficient and only takes less than 1 ms to perform
identification.Comment: 2017 Joint European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge

Navigation Pattern Discovery from Internet Data
Electronic commerce sites need to learn as much as possible about their customers and those browsing their virtual premises, in order to maximize their marketing effort. The discovery of marketing related navigation patterns requires the development of data mining algorithms capable of discovering sequential access patterns from web logs. This paper introduces a new algorithm called MiDAS that extends traditional sequence discovery with a wide range of web-specific features. Domain knowledge is described as flexible navigation templates that can specify navigational behavior, as network structures for the capture of web site topologies, in addition to concept hierarchies and syntactic constraints. Unlike existing approaches, field dependency has been implemented, which allows the detection of sequences across monitored attributes, such as URLs and http referrers. Three different types of contained-in relationships are supported, which express different types of browsing behavior. The carried out experimental evaluation have shown promising results in terms of functionality as well as scalability.
The contribution of data mining to information science
The information explosion is a serious challenge for current information institutions. On the other hand, data mining, which is the search for valuable information in large volumes of data, is one of the solutions to face this challenge. In the past several years, data mining has made a significant contribution to the field of information science. This paper examines the impact of data mining by reviewing existing applications, including personalized environments, electronic commerce, and search engines. For these three types of application, how data mining can enhance their functions is discussed. The reader of this paper is expected to get an overview of the state of the art research associated with these applications. Furthermore, we identify the limitations of current work and raise several directions for future research

Ideation as an intellectual information acquisition and use context: Investigating game designersâ information-based ideation behavior
Human Information Behavior (HIB) research commonly examines behavior in the context of why information is acquired and how it will be used, but usually at the level of the work or everyday-life tasks the information will support. HIB has not been examined in detail at the broader contextual level of intellectual purpose (i.e. the higher-order conceptual tasks the information was acquired to support). Examination at this level can enhance holistic understanding of HIB as a âmeans to an intellectual endâ and inform the design of digital information environments that support information interaction for specific intellectual purposes. We investigate information-based ideation (IBI) as a specific intellectual information acquisition and use context by conducting Critical Incident-style interviews with ten game designers, focusing on how they interact with information to generate and develop creative design ideas. Our findings give rise to a framework of their ideation-focused HIB, which systems designers can leverage to reason about how best to support certain behaviors to drive design ideation. These findings emphasize the importance of intellectual purpose as a driver for acquisition and desired outcome of use
On the evolution of hyperlinking
Across time, the hyperlink object has supported different applications and studies. This is one perspective on the evolution of the hyperlinking concept, its context and related behaviors. Through a spectrum of hyperlinking applications and practices, the article contrasts the status quo with its related, broader, conceptual roots; it also bridges to some theorized and prototyped hyperlink variations, namely "stigmergic hyperlinks", to make the case that the ubiquitousness of some objects and certain usage patterns can obfuscate opportunities to (re)think them. In trying to contribute an answer to "what has the common hyperlink (such an apparently simple object) done to society, and what has society done to it?", the article identifies situations that have become so embedded in the daily routine, that it is now hard to think of hyperlinking alternatives.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Automatic assessment of creativity in heuristic problem-solving based on query diversity
IndexaciĂłn: Web of Science; Scopus.Research, development and innovation are the pillars on which companies rely to offer new products and services capable of attracting consumer demand. This is why creative problem-solving emerges as one of the most relevant skills of the 21st century. Fortunately, there are many creativity training programs that have proven effective. However, many of these programs and methods base on a previous measurement of creativity and require experienced reviewers, they consume time for being manual, and they are far from everyday activities. In this study, we propose a model to estimate the creative quality of users' solutions dealing with heuristic problems, based on the automatic analysis of query patterns issued during the information search to solve the problem. This model has been able to predict the creative quality of solutions produced by 226 users, reaching a sensitivity of 78.43%. Likewise, the level of agreement among reviewers in relation to the creative characteristics is evaluated through two rubrics, and thereby, observing the difficulties of the manual evaluation: subjectivity and effort. The proposed model could be used to foster prompt detection of non-creative solutions and it could be implemented in diverse industrial processes that can range from the recruitment of talent to the evaluation of performance in R&D&I processes.https://www.revistadyna.com/search/automatic-assessment-of-creativity-in-heuristic-problem-solving-based-on-query-diversit
