The image by Computed Tomography is a non-invasive alternative for observing soil structures, mainly pore space. The pore space correspond in soil data to empty or free space in the sense that no material is present there but only fluids, the fluid transport depend of pore spaces in soil, for this reason is important identify the regions that correspond to pore zones. In this paper we present a methodology in order to detect pore space and solid soil based on the synergy of the image processing, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. The mathematical morphology is an image processing technique used for the purpose of image enhancement. In order to find pixels groups with a similar gray level intensity, or more or less homogeneous groups, a novel image sub-segmentation based on a Possibilistic Fuzzy c-Means (PFCM) clustering algorithm was used. The Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are very efficient for demanding large scale and generic pattern recognition applications for this reason finally a classifier based on artificial neural network is applied in order to classify soil images in two classes, pore space and solid soil respectively

This project is about logo recognition using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In order to recognize the logo, a training phase using back propagation technique was implemented. Based on study of existing research, many image and pattern recognition has been done by using Artificial Neural Network and back propagation technique. Logo was scanned or captured trough the Internet. There are five logo and each logo have four different size or fi-om different source. Logo must firstly done process of pre-processing by using MatLab 6.5 in order to normalize the logo to a specific size and for noise removal. In addition, the edge detection for the logo also used MatLab 6.5 to get the logo parameter and transform the logo into binary representation. The binary representation was used for the input node of neural network for back propagation training algorithm. To ensure a good performance of logo recognition prototype, numbers of experiments are done by adjusting the parameters of back propagation training algorithm. Finally, this research found that Artificial Neural Network and back propagation algorithm is suitable for image and pattern recognition

Pattern recognition has been acknowledged as one of the promising research areas and it has drawn the awareness among many researchers since its existence at the beginning of the nineties. Multilayer Neural networks are used in pattern Recognition and classification based on the features derived from the input patterns. The Reflectivity information extracted from the Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) image helps in identifying the convective cloud type which has a strong relation to the precipitation rate. The reflectivity information is rooted in the DWR image with the help of colors and color bar is provided to distinguish among different reflectivity information. Artificial Neural network predicts the color based on the maximum likelihood estimation problem. This paper presents a best possible backpropagation algorithm for color identification in DWR images by comparing various backpropagation algorithms such as LevenbergMarquardt, Conjugate gradient, and Resilient back propagation etc.,. Pattern recognition using Neural networks presents better results compared to standard distance measures. It is observed that Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation algorithm yields a regression value of 99% approximately and accuracy of 98

A CASE STUDY ON SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINES VERSUS ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS

The capability of artificial neural networks for pattern recognition of real world problems is well known. In recent years, the support vector machine has been advocated for its structure risk minimization leading to tolerance margins of decision boundaries. Structures and performances of these pattern classifiers depend on the feature dimension and training data size. The objective of this research is to compare these pattern recognition systems based on a case study. The particular case considered is on classification of hypertensive and normotensive right ventricle (RV) shapes obtained from Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) sequences. In this case, the feature dimension is reasonable, but the available training data set is small, however, the decision surface is highly nonlinear. For diagnosis of congenital heart defects, especially those associated with pressure and volume overload problems, a reliable pattern classifier for determining right ventricle function is needed. RV¡¦s global and regional surface to volume ratios are assessed from an individual¡¦s MRI heart images. These are used as features for pattern classifiers. We considered first two linear classification methods: the Fisher linear discriminant and the linear classifier trained by the Ho-Kayshap algorithm. When the data are not linearly separable, artificial neural networks with back-propagation training and radial basis function networks were then considered, providing nonlinear decision surfaces. Thirdly, a support vector machine was trained which gives tolerance margins on both sides of the decision surface. We have found in this case study that the back-propagation training of an artificial neural network depends heavily on the selection of initial weights, even though randomized. The support vector machine where radial basis function kernels are used is easily trained and provides decision tolerance margins, in spite of only small margins

Digital Camera Identification Using Neural Network Algorithm And Pattern Noise In Imaging Sensors

In forensic investigation of criminal cases like child pornography, image forgery, identity theft, steganography, movie piracy, insurance claims, and other cases of scientific frauds, some of the most significant challenges may be to detect the origin of an image or the photographing camera, detect forged images or hidden messages in images from retrieved digital evidence. There has been much interest in developing camera fingerprints for the forensic task of digital camera identification; that is, to be able to tie an image to it\u27s photographing camera with high certainty or good assurance metrics, specially when the camera is not present in the crime scene. Inspired by the existing approaches of camera fingerprint forensics, this paper explores a novel approach for camera identification, based on PRNU noise fingerprint, using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm. While statistical algorithms produce probabilistic inferences based on statistical problem data, artificial neural network algorithm learns features about the problem from training data. Based on correctness of feature representations and complex mathematical processing on the training data, the neural network is able to learn or approximate any non-linear distribution very easily. As it trains on different examples, it\u27s generalization performance on new inputs improves. In currently proposed work, first the reference fingerprint and test fingerprint are estimated based on a simple kernel based processing algorithm for PRNU coefficient estimation. Then an artificial neural network is set up in C programming language for PRNU pattern recognition based on the estimated feature values from the reference pattern data. The network is presented with training inputs and desired outputs, and based on formulated assumptions and hypothesis described in later sections, the expectation is that the ANN will be able to recognize PRNU fingerprint in images taken by the same camera whose fingerprint the ANN got trained on. A low Mean Square Error (MSE) during ANN training and testing is an indication that the ANN could report with high confidence, a match between the camera fingerprint pattern and the pattern in test image. Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) ANN with single hidden layer is proved to be a universal non-linear function approximator and can be applied to solve any complex non-linear problem. Current approach uses back propagation MLP ANN algorithm for fingerprint detection or camera identification
