    This paper summarizes our experience teaching several courses at Metropolitan College of Boston University Computer Science department over five years. A number of innovative teaching techniques are presented in this paper. We specifically address the role of a project archive, when designing a course. This research paper explores survey results from every running of courses, from 2014 to 2019. During each class, students participated in two distinct surveys: first, dealing with key learning outcomes, and, second, with teaching techniques used. This paper makes several practical recommendations based on the analysis of collected data. The research validates the value of a sound repository of technical term projects and the role such repository plays in effective teaching and learning of computer science courses.Accepted manuscrip

    Two groups of six children (aged eleven) in two UK primary schools – one in an area of socio-economic advantage and one in an area of socio-economic disadvantage – were trained in research methods. They were supported to undertake their own research projects about aspects of literacy, which they identified themselves. Areas explored include: - homework experiences - learning environments and - how confidence affects literacy. These research studies provide rich descriptions of children’s own literacy experiences, generating data that is not easily accessible to adults. The absence of power relations in the data collection by having child researchers means that the responses are untainted by efforts to ‘please the adult’. Introduction by Professor David Gordon, World Federation for Medical Education.The Avon Longitudinal Survey of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) arose from a proposal in the mid-1980s to design a cohort study in Europe which concentrated on the health of children. The UK-side of this was developed in the former county of Avon and the study has followed more than 14000 children, due between April 1991 and December 1992, from their mothers' pregnancies onwards. A vast amount of data has been collected on health, lifestyle, and environment as well as biological samples of urine, blood and DNA. This has been used to establish genetic and environmental determinants of development and health. With an introduction by Professor David Gordon, this volume addresses the origin and development of ALSPAC, the problems of funding such a major study, the variety of methodologies employed, and the ethical questions associated with the project.
