Stabilising Model Predictive Control for Discrete-time Fractional-order Systems
In this paper we propose a model predictive control scheme for constrained
fractional-order discrete-time systems. We prove that all constraints are
satisfied at all time instants and we prescribe conditions for the origin to be
an asymptotically stable equilibrium point of the controlled system. We employ
a finite-dimensional approximation of the original infinite-dimensional
dynamics for which the approximation error can become arbitrarily small. We use
the approximate dynamics to design a tube-based model predictive controller
which steers the system state to a neighbourhood of the origin of controlled
size. We finally derive stability conditions for the MPC-controlled system
which are computationally tractable and account for the infinite dimensional
nature of the fractional-order system and the state and input constraints. The
proposed control methodology guarantees asymptotic stability of the
discrete-time fractional order system, satisfaction of the prescribed
constraints and recursive feasibility
Hybrid Systems and Control With Fractional Dynamics (I): Modeling and Analysis
No mixed research of hybrid and fractional-order systems into a cohesive and
multifaceted whole can be found in the literature. This paper focuses on such a
synergistic approach of the theories of both branches, which is believed to
give additional flexibility and help to the system designer. It is part I of
two companion papers and introduces the fundamentals of fractional-order hybrid
systems, in particular, modeling and stability analysis of two kinds of such
systems, i.e., fractional-order switching and reset control systems. Some
examples are given to illustrate the applicability and effectiveness of the
developed theory. Part II will focus on fractional-order hybrid control.Comment: 2014 International Conference on Fractional Differentiation and its

Simulation of fractionally damped mechanical systems by means of a Newmark-diffusive scheme
A Newmark-diffusive scheme is presented for the time-domain solution of dynamic systems containing fractional derivatives. This scheme combines a classical Newmark time-integration method used to solve second-order mechanical systems (obtained for example after finite element discretization), with a diffusive representation based on the transformation of the fractional operator into a diagonal system of linear differential equations, which can be seen as internal memory variables. The focus is given on the algorithm implementation into a finite element framework, the strategies for choosing diffusive parameters, and applications to beam structures with a fractional Zener model
Diffusive representations for fractional Laplacian: systems theory framework and numerical issues
Bridging the gap between an abstract definition of pseudo-differential operators, such as (-\Delta)^{\gamma} for - 1/2 < \gamma < 1/2, and a concrete way to represent them has proved difficult; deriving stable numerical schemes for such operators is not an easy task either. Thus, the framework of diffusive representations, as already developed for causal fractional integrals and derivatives,
is being applied to fractional Laplacian: it can be seen as an extension of the Wiener-Hopf factorization and splitting techniques to irrational transfer functions
Fractional dynamics of systems with long-range interaction
We consider one-dimensional chain of coupled linear and nonlinear oscillators
with long-range power wise interaction defined by a term proportional to
1/|n-m|^{\alpha+1}. Continuous medium equation for this system can be obtained
in the so-called infrared limit when the wave number tends to zero. We
construct a transform operator that maps the system of large number of ordinary
differential equations of motion of the particles into a partial differential
equation with the Riesz fractional derivative of order \alpha, when 0<\alpha<2.
Few models of coupled oscillators are considered and their synchronized states
and localized structures are discussed in details. Particularly, we discuss
some solutions of time-dependent fractional Ginzburg-Landau (or nonlinear
Schrodinger) equation.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial overlap with arXiv:nlin/051201
