Approximation of nonlinear dynamic systems by rational series

AbstractGiven an analytic system, we compute a bilinear system of minimal dimension which approximates it up to order k (i.e. the outputs of these two systems have the same Taylor expansion up to order k). The algorithm is based on noncommutative series computation: let s be the generating series of the analytic system; then a rational series g is constructed, whose coefficients are equal to those of s, for all words of length smaller than or equal to k. These words are digitally encoded, in order to simplify the computations of the Hankel matrices of s and g. We then associate with g, a bilinear system, which is a solution to our problem. Another method may be used for computing a bilinear system which approximates a given analytic system (S). We associate with (S) an R-automaton of vector fields and build the truncated automaton by cancelling all the states which have the following property: the length of the shortest successful path labelled by a word that gets through this state is strictly greater than k. Then, the number of states of this truncated automaton yields the dimension (not necessarily minimal) of the state-space

On the attractors of two-dimensional Rayleigh oscillators including noise

We study sustained oscillations in two-dimensional oscillator systems driven by Rayleigh-type negative friction. In particular we investigate the influence of mismatch of the two frequencies. Further we study the influence of external noise and nonlinearity of the conservative forces. Our consideration is restricted to the case that the driving is rather weak and that the forces show only weak deviations from radial symmetry. For this case we provide results for the attractors and the bifurcations of the system. We show that for rational relations of the frequencies the system develops several rotational excitations with right/left symmetry, corresponding to limit cycles in the four-dimensional phase space. The corresponding noisy distributions have the form of hoops or tires in the four-dimensional space. For irrational frequency relations, as well as for increasing strength of driving or noise the periodic excitations are replaced by chaotic oscillations.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Macromodeling strategy for digital devices and interconnects

International audienceThis paper proposes a macromodeling approach for the simulation of digital interconnected systems. Such an approach is based on a set of macromodels describing IC ports, IC packages and multiconductor interconnect structures in standard circuit simulators, like SPICE. We illustrate the features of the macromodels and we demonstrate the proposed approach on a realistic simulation problem
