A Primer on Seq2Seq Models for Generative Chatbots

    Get PDF
The recent spread of Deep Learning-based solutions for Artificial Intelligence and the development of Large Language Models has pushed forwards significantly the Natural Language Processing area. The approach has quickly evolved in the last ten years, deeply affecting NLP, from low-level text pre-processing tasks –such as tokenisation or POS tagging– to high-level, complex NLP applications like machine translation and chatbots. This paper examines recent trends in the development of open-domain data-driven generative chatbots, focusing on the Seq2Seq architectures. Such architectures are compatible with multiple learning approaches, ranging from supervised to reinforcement and, in the last years, allowed to realise very engaging open-domain chatbots. Not only do these architectures allow to directly output the next turn in a conversation but, to some extent, they also allow to control the style or content of the response. To offer a complete view on the subject, we examine possible architecture implementations as well as training and evaluation approaches. Additionally, we provide information about the openly available corpora to train and evaluate such models and about the current and past chatbot competitions. Finally, we present some insights on possible future directions, given the current research status

The Correlation Between Education Background and Student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) In Special Education Department Faculty of Education (FIP) Universitas Negeri Makasar (UNM)

Students of Special Education Department FIP UNM come from varied educational backgrounds and also have the various Grade Point Average (GPA). So that the aim of this research are : 1) How is the description of the educational background of students from the Special Education Department FIP UNM ? 2) How is the description of Grade Point Average (GPA) students of Special Education Department FIP UNM? 3) ls there any significant correlation between educational background in high school and Grade Point Average (GPA) of students in Special Education Department FIP UNM? This research uses a quantitative approach through correlation test. The study population was a student in Special Education Students, while the sample is the students from class of 2014 and 2015. The data collection used documentation on SIMPADU. The results that: 1) The educational background of the students of Special Education Department FIP UNM dominated by Science Major from senior high school. 2) GPA level of level of the students of Special Education Department FIP UNM is at the high category. 3) Educational background is one of the factor that correlated with GPA of the students of Special Education Department FIP UNM. This correlation is possible because the educational background that dominant is science majors which inextricably linked with some of the subjects taught in the Special Education Department. So that finding of this study is tif a student has the educational background that corresponds to his chosen field in college, then chances of high GPA will be easy. These findings also reinforce previous findings, although with different content

    Tattoo Narratives and Counseling

    Get PDF
Much research has been done on tattoos and on those who acquire them, but most of the research has focused on negative correlations that might exist with people who have tattoos. This current research, however, showed that people’s tattoo narratives can relate to how they view self, others, and the world, and to how they approach life. A narrative approach to qualitative research was used, and ten people participated in the study. Participants’ views of self, others, and the world were discussed as these views emerged from the narratives. Their possible approaches to life were also addressed. Themes that emerged across participants were then considered. Implications for counseling practice and counselor education were also discussed

Strategies for Reducing the Effects of Employee Absenteeism on Organizational Profitability

    Get PDF
Employee absenteeism is a significant threat to organizational profitability. Finding solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of employee absenteeism on organizational profitability is critical to the success of organizations. The purpose of this case study was to explore the strategies human resource leaders used to mitigate the adverse effects of employee absenteeism on organizational profitability. The conceptual framework was performance prism theory. Data were gathered from in-depth interviews and publicly available organizational documents, including wellbeing program resources and annual investment presentations and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting documents. Participants included 4 human resource managers and a third party service provider of an Atlanta, Georgia airline industry organization. The organization used in this case study was one of only twenty US companies, as of 2012, that implemented an absenteeism mitigation program at least 3 years prior to this study. The multi-year internal data collected, via interviews, from the human resource management of this 80,000 employee international company specifically about absenteeism mitigation programs, provided a perspective not available from all firms. Data were transcribed, coded, and analyzed to generate emerging themes. Key themes included an emphasis on organizational culture, the wellbeing program, and the cost of absenteeism. Subthemes included executive leadership support, stakeholder identification, and middle management program champions. Findings may help leaders improve organizational productivity and profitability and provide more stability for employees, which may result in thriving communities and other positive social change

Meeting The Needs of Medically Fragile/Chronically Ill Students: Through The Lens of Urban School Administrators

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of four urban administrators and their management of students with chronic health conditions in the school setting. Generally speaking, there exist a scarcity within the literature that emphasizes leadership practices specifically related to serving students with chronic health conditions in the school environment. As such, the voices of school administrators and their direct and indirect influence on managing the school experience of these students is essentially non-existent. This study advances an illustration of how school administrators describe their personal characteristics in the management of students with chronic conditions; how they exercise and interpret their acts in the management process; and how administrators describe their leadership acts related to both the academic achievement and social adjustment of students with chronic conditions in urban school environments. Findings from the study reveal that school administrators recognize that their involvement in managing a caring culture for students with chronic conditions is paramount for both their academic and social success; and they believe that they embody the leadership characteristics conducive to establishing a thriving culture for students. Additionally, new findings reveal that though school leaders are engaged, they lack a uniform process in managing students with chronic conditions. Their voices also developed a Multicultural Critical Care leadership model that integrates the imperativeness of leading with a moral compass, creating inclusive environments and relying on transformational leadership practices in this critical process
