Customer Churn Detection and Marketing Retention Strategies in the Online Food Delivery Business
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the behavior of customers within the
Online Food Delivery industry, through which it is proposed to develop a prediction
model that allows detecting, based on valuable active customers, those who will leave
the services of Alpha Corporation in the near future.
Firstly, valuable customers are defined as those consumers who have made at
least 8 orders in the last 12 months. In this way, considering the historical behavior of
said users, as well as applying Feature Engineering techniques, a first approach is
proposed based on the implementation of a Random Forest algorithm and, later, a
boosting algorithm: XGBoost.
Once the performance of each of the models developed is analyzed, and potential
churners are identified, different marketing suggestions are proposed in order to retain
said customers. Retention strategies will be based on how Alpha Corporation works, as
well as on the output of the predictive model. Other development alternatives will also
be discussed: a clustering model based on potential churners or an unstructured data
model to analyze the emotions of those users according to the NPS surveys. The aim of
these proposals is to complement the prediction to design more specific retention
marketing strategies
MMORPG-pelaajan pelin lopettamisen ennustaminen koneoppimisella
Massiiviset monen pelaajan verkkoroolipelit eli MMORPG-pelit (eng.
Tutkimuksessa tutkittiinkin yli sataa potentiaalista piirrettä, joista 40 valittiin uuteen malliin sovitettavaksi. Uusien piirteiden, sekä tiimi UTU:n mittaamien piirteiden, toimivuutta mitattiin usealla tekniikalla, joista parhaimman ristiinvalidointitarkkuuden saavuttivat harjanneluokittelija, lineaarinen tukivektorikone ja logistinen regressio. Testidatojen validoinnissa logistinen regressio onnistui parantamaan tiimin kilpailuratkaisua eniten.
From Chess and Atari to StarCraft and Beyond: How Game AI is Driving the World of AI
This paper reviews the field of Game AI, which not only deals with creating
agents that can play a certain game, but also with areas as diverse as creating
game content automatically, game analytics, or player modelling. While Game AI
was for a long time not very well recognized by the larger scientific
community, it has established itself as a research area for developing and
testing the most advanced forms of AI algorithms and articles covering advances
in mastering video games such as StarCraft 2 and Quake III appear in the most
prestigious journals. Because of the growth of the field, a single review
cannot cover it completely. Therefore, we put a focus on important recent
developments, including that advances in Game AI are starting to be extended to
areas outside of games, such as robotics or the synthesis of chemicals. In this
article, we review the algorithms and methods that have paved the way for these
breakthroughs, report on the other important areas of Game AI research, and
also point out exciting directions for the future of Game AI

EXAMINING THE EFFECT OF DIRECT MAIL ON CASINO CUSTOMER VISITATION AND VALUE
Customer relationship management in the form of direct mail is widely used by regional and local U.S. casinos for the purposes of building customer loyalty. Casinos can spend hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars each year sending direct mail, both with or without offers, often experiencing low response rates. As a result, managers need a better understanding of the impact of direct mail on customer loyalty. This paper investigates the impact on customer loyalty, defined for purposes of this study as frequency of visitation and customer monetary value, when a customer receives a mailing piece from a casino and upon redemption of an offer from the direct mail piece. Data analysis of secondary data from a regional U.S. casino was conducted to determine if relationships existed between direct mail CRM programs and casino loyalty. This resulted in identifying a significant positive relationship between both the receiving of direct mail and the redemption of a direct mail offer with increased visitation. Also revealed was an increase in customer value, as supported by a significant positive relationship between the redemption of a direct mail offer and an increased customer spending; however, no significant relationship existed between receiving direct mail and increased customer spending
Not just the best years of my life: personal growth in higher education
Our conception of product affirmation depicts a product as “sculptor” of the consumer’s ideal self, similar to how a relationship partner can help us achieve our aspirations and goals. We performed two studies to look at the role of higher education as a product in affirming a consumer’s ideal self. We found that product affirmation for undergraduate students and alumni (with the university as the product that affirms the ideal self of the student/alumnus) leads to increases in the experience of various positive emotions, the acquisition of various positive traits, and positive evaluations of the university. Additionally, we found that product affirmation effects were more pronounced and robust in one’s personal ideal-self domain than in one’s professional ideal-self domain. Practical implications, study limitations, and future directions are discussed, as well as preliminary findings from a follow-up experiment using a sample of graduate students
