    Development of an electronic governor system for a small spark ignition engine

    The use of electronic controls on engines has been widespread and has now reached the small utility engine. The evolution from carburetion to electronic fuel injection has presented opportunity to implement additional controls with the intent to improve engine control and performance. In this study, an electronic governor system is developed for use on a small twin cylinder utility engine. This system is to replace an existing mechanical governor system, and it should have the potential as a production based solution that integrates with an existing fuel injection system.     Hydrogen-methane fuel control systems for turbojet engines

    Design, development, and test of a fuel conditioning and control system utilizing liquid methane (natural gas) and liquid hydrogen fuels for operation of a J85 jet engine were performed. The experimental program evaluated the stability and response of an engine fuel control employing liquid pumping of cryogenic fuels, gasification of the fuels at supercritical pressure, and gaseous metering and control. Acceptably stable and responsive control of the engine was demonstrated throughout the sea level power range for liquid gas fuel and up to 88 percent engine speed using liquid hydrogen fuel

    Includes bibliographical references.Fundamental research has been undertaken at the SASOL Advanced Fuels Laboratory to investigate the effects of the chemistry and physical properties of both conventional and synthetic jet fuels on threshold combustion. This research was undertaken using a purpose built low pressure continuous combustion test facility. Researchers at the laboratory now wish to examine these effects on an aviation gas turbine in service for which “off-map” scheduling of fuel to the engine would be required. A two phase project was thus proposed to develop this capability; the work of this thesis embodies Phase I of that project

Nearly identical units installed at several of Union Carbide's process plants exhibited different symptoms of minor instability after rerating. The newest unit, rerated before installation, began to exhibit signs of not-so-minor instability following a very stable and successful startup. Before water lines are opened or reopened, chlorine must be injected in a specified quantity. The current chlorinator relies on a generator to power electrical components which are costly, frequently damaged, and take up additional space. This document outlines the process of creating a chlorinator that accomplishes mechanical fluid-power chlorine injection. This document further explains all the research, testing, and benchmarks used to determine that our design meets our desired engineering specifications
