It is desirable that a power system operation is in a normal operating condition. However, the increase of load demand in a power system has forced the system to operate near to its stability limit whereby an increase in load poses a threat to the power system security. In solving this issue, optimal reactive power support via SVC allocation in a power system has been proposed. In this paper, Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) algorithm is implemented to solve for optimal allocation of SVC in the power system. IEEE 26 Bus Reliability Test System is used as the test system. Comparative studies are also conducted concerning Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Evolutionary Programming (EP) techniques based on several case studies. Based on the result, SOS has proven its superiority by producing higher quality solutions compared to PSO and EP. The results of this study can benefit the power system operators in planning for optimal power system operations

Optimal power flow problem is one of the most important non-linear problems for power system planning and the operation of existing modern power networks. Recently, the incremental usage of renewable energy sources in power systems has revealed the significance of power system planning. Thus, the aim is to model the AC optimal power flow problem using thermal–wind–solar–tidal energy systems. In this study, uncertainties of wind, solar, and tidal energy systems were simulated using Weibull, Lognormal, and Gumbel probability distribution functions. Furthermore, the study presents solutions to the AC optimal power flow problem by including test cases of stochastic wind, solar, and tidal energy systems involving minimisation of cost function, active power loss, voltage deviation, enhancement of voltage stability, and contingency conditions. The solutions were tested via IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus test systems incorporating renewable energy sources, using different locations according to the selected thermal generating units. The symbiotic organisms search algorithm, which is one of the recently introduced optimisation algorithms, was used to solve the proposed power system planning problem, and simulation results of this algorithm were compared to the results of other algorithms such as the imperialist competitive, harmony search, backtracking search optimisation, and gravitational search algorithms

In Cloud Computing model, users are charged according to the usage of resources and desired Quality of Service (QoS). Task scheduling algorithms are responsible for specifying adequate set of resources to execute user applications in the form of tasks, and schedule decisions of task scheduling algorithms are based on QoS requirements defined by the user. Task scheduling problem is an NP-Complete problem, due to the NP-Complete nature of task scheduling problems and huge search space presented by large scale problem instances, many of the existing solution algorithms incur high computational complexity and cannot effectively obtain global optimum solutions. Recently, Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) has been applied to various optimization problems and results obtained were found to be competitive with state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms. However, similar to the case other metaheuristic optimization algorithms, the efficiency of SOS algorithm deteriorates as the size of the search space increases. Moreover, SOS suffers from local optima entrapment and its static control parameters cannot maintain a balance between local and global search. In this study, Cooperative Coevolutionary Constrained Multiobjective Symbiotic Organisms Search (CC-CMSOS), Cooperative Coevolutionary Constrained Multi-objective Memetic Symbiotic Organisms Search (CC-CMMSOS), and Cooperative Coevolutionary Constrained Multi-objective Adaptive Benefit Factor Symbiotic Organisms Search (CC-CMABFSOS) algorithms are proposed to solve constrained multi-objective large scale task scheduling optimization problem on IaaS cloud computing environment. To address the issue of scalability, the concept of Cooperative Coevolutionary for enhancing SOS named CC-CMSOS make SOS more efficient for solving large scale task scheduling problems. CC-CMMSOS algorithm further improves the performance of SOS algorithm by hybridizing with Simulated Annealing (SA) to avoid entrapment in local optima for global convergence. Finally, CC-CMABFSOS algorithm adaptively turn SOS control parameters to balance the local and global search procedure for faster convergence speed. The performance of the proposed CC-CMSOS, CC-CMMSOS, and CC-CMABFSOS algorithms are evaluated on CloudSim simulator, using both standard workload traces and synthesized workloads for larger problem instances of up to 5000. Moreover, CC-CMSOS, CC-CMMSOS, and CC-CMABFSOS algorithms are compared with multi-objective optimization algorithms, namely, EMS-C, ECMSMOO, and BOGA. The CC-CMSOS, CC-CMMSOS, and CC-CMABFSOS algorithms obtained significant improved optimal trade-offs between execution time (makespan) and financial cost (cost) while meeting deadline constraints with no computational overhead. The performance improvements obtained by the proposed algorithms in terms of hypervolume ranges from 8.72% to 37.95% across the workloads. Therefore, the proposed algorithms have potentials to improve the performance of QoS delivery

    Get PDF
This paper describes the use of an improved version of the Salp Swarm Algorithm, known as iSSA, to address Optimal Power Flow (OPF) issues in power system management. The iSSA is applied to OPF problems involving stochastic solar power generation, with the goal of optimizing control variables such as real power generation, voltage magnitude at generation buses, transformer tap settings, and reactive power compensation. The optimization aims to achieve three objectives: minimizing power loss, minimizing cost, and minimizing combined cost and emissions from power generation. The iSSA's performance was tested on a modified IEEE 30-bus system and compared to other recent algorithms, including SSA. The simulation results show that the iSSA outperformed all compared algorithms for all objective functions that have been derived in this study

Solution of the Multi-objective Economic and Emission Load Dispatch Problem Using Adaptive Real Quantum Inspired Evolutionary Algorithm

Economic load dispatch is a complex and significant problem in power generation. The inclusion of emission with economic operation makes it a Multi-objective economic emission load dispatch (MOEELD) problem. So it is a tough task to resolve a constrained MOEELD problem with antagonistic multiple objectives of emission and cost. Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) have been widely used for solving such complex multi-objective problems. However, the performance of EAs on such problems is dependent on the choice of the operators and their parameters, which becomes a complex issue to solve in itself. The present work is carried out to solve a Multi-objective economic emission load dispatch problem using a Multi-objective adaptive real coded quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (MO-ARQIEA) with gratifying all the constraints of unit and system. A repair-based constraint handling and adaptive quantum crossover operator (ACO) are used to satisfy the constraints and preserve the diversity of the suggested approach. The suggested approach is evaluated on the IEEE 30-Bus system consisting of six generating units. These results obtained for different test cases are compared with other reputed and well-known techniques

Due to the great importance of reliable indicators in electrical operating systems in all its different parts, it has been considered the most important factors in the design and maintenance of the electrical system, especially during its operation. The main reason for attention to reliability indicators relates to interruptions in the power system that are provided to consumers. The introduction of reliable indicators to solving an economic load dispatch (ELD) issue increases the possibility of providing customers with a required load with the highest degree of reliability. The ELD issue has been solved with reliability indicators. This means that the ELD problem with reliability is combined into one problem called combined the economic load dispatch with reliability (CELDR). Solving the above problem lowers the fuel cost while increasing the reliability of the generators while preparing the required load. The exchange market algorithm (EMA), in this work, has been implemented in a system of 26 generating units to solve the CELDR issue. Considering system reliability, inequality, and equality constraints. The results obtained show the direct effect of using reliability indicators in solving the above problem, where the best results were obtained using the EMA algorithm to solve the mentioned problem, compared to other algorithms
