Prediction and optimization of a desulphurization system using CMAC neural network and genetic algorithm
In this paper, taking desulphurizing ratio and economic cost as two objectives, a ten-input two-output prediction model was structured and validated for desulphurization system. Cerebellar model articulation controller (CMAC) neural network and genetic algorithm (GA) were used for model building and optimization of cost respectively. In the model building process, the grey relation entropy analysis and uniform design method were used to screen the input variables and study the model parameters separately. Traditional regression analysis and proposed location number analysis method were adopted to analyze output errors of experiment group and predict the results of test group. Results show that regression analyses keep high fit degree with experiment group results while the fitting accuracies for test group are quite different. As for location number analysis, a power function between output errors and location numbers was fitted well with the data of experiment group and test group for SO2. Prediction model was initialized by location number analysis method. Model was validated and cost optimization case was performed with GA subsequently. The result shows that the optimal cost obtained from GA could be reduced by more than 30% compared with original optimal operating parameters under same constraints
Utilization of Models for Online Estimation in Combustion Applications
The emerging environmental and energy system related requirements urge renewed combustion systems, with a focus on extended flexibility and decreased emissions. At the same time, monitoring and measurement reliability requirements are increasing. All these requirements also increasingly affect existing combustion plants. To tackle the increasing needs and requirements of existing combustion processes, this thesis’ objective is to integrate process and domain knowledge, models, and online estimation to provide cost effective and practically feasible solutions for online emission monitoring and control in existing combustion processes. These solutions are domain specific, comprising power level, main fuel, boiler technology, process environment, and market. This thesis presents a framework to provide practically justified, online monitoring and control solutions that is applied to selected combustion applications. The first application is combustion control of small-scale (100 MW). A novel, first principle combustion model was developed for these. The generic combustion model interlinks the combustion related measurements distributed within any boilers regardless of boiler type or fuels. The interlinking enables combustion processes to be considered as an entity that reveals if a measurement provide realistic readings compared with others. The static, computationally light model enables simultaneous data reconciliation and gross error detection and hence several attractive online applications, such as reliable estimation of unmeasured variables, and separation of process disturbances from sensor malfunctions. The results verify that the process performance improved in all studied practical applications, providing feasible solutions for increasing requirements
XVIII International Coal Preparation Congress
Changes in economic and market conditions of mineral raw materials in recent
years have greatly increased demands on the ef fi ciency of mining production. This
is certainly true of the coal industry. World coal consumption is growing faster than
other types of fuel and in the past year it exceeded 7.6 billion tons. Coal extraction
and processing technology are continuously evolving, becoming more economical
and environmentally friendly. “ Clean coal ” technology is becoming increasingly
popular. Coal chemistry, production of new materials and pharmacology are now
added to the traditional use areas — power industry and metallurgy. The leading role
in the development of new areas of coal use belongs to preparation technology and
advanced coal processing. Hi-tech modern technology and the increasing interna-
tional demand for its effectiveness and ef fi ciency put completely new goals for the
University. Our main task is to develop a new generation of workforce capacity and
research in line with global trends in the development of science and technology to
address critical industry issues.
Today Russia, like the rest of the world faces rapid and profound changes
affecting all spheres of life. The de fi ning feature of modern era has been a rapid
development of high technology, intellectual capital being its main asset and
resource. The dynamics of scienti fi c and technological development requires acti-
vation of University research activities. The University must be a generator of ideas
to meet the needs of the economy and national development. Due to the high
intellectual potential, University expert mission becomes more and more called for
and is capable of providing professional assessment and building science-based
predictions in various fi elds.
Coal industry, as well as the whole fuel and energy sector of the global economy
is growing fast. Global multinational energy companies are less likely to be under
state in fl uence and will soon become the main mechanism for the rapid spread of
technologies based on new knowledge. Mineral resources will have an even greater
impact on the stability of the economies of many countries. Current progress in the
technology of coal-based gas synthesis is not just a change in the traditional energy markets, but the emergence of new products of direct consumption, obtained from
coal, such as synthetic fuels, chemicals and agrochemical products. All this requires
a revision of the value of coal in the modern world economy
Advanced Technologies for Biomass
The use of biomass and organic waste material as a primary resource for the production of fuels, chemicals, and electric power is of growing significance in light of the environmental issues associated with the use of fossil fuels. For this reason, it is vital that new and more efficient technologies for the conversion of biomass are investigated and developed. Today, various advanced methods can be used for the conversion of biomass. These methods are broadly classified into thermochemical conversion, biochemical conversion, and electrochemical conversion. This book collects papers that consider various aspects of sustainability in the conversion of biomass into valuable products, covering all the technical stages from biomass production to residue management. In particular, it focuses on experimental and simulation studies aiming to investigate new processes and technologies on the industrial, pilot, and bench scales
Marine Engines Performance and Emissions
This book contains a collection of peer-review scientific papers about marine engines’ performance and emissions. These papers were carefully selected for the “Marine Engines Performance and Emissions” Special Issue of the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering. Recent advancements in engine technology have allowed designers to reduce emissions and improve performance. Nevertheless, further efforts are needed to comply with the ever increased emission legislations. This book was conceived for people interested in marine engines. This information concerning recent developments may be helpful to academics, researchers, and professionals engaged in the field of marine engineering
