Agricultural information dissemination using ICTs: a review and analysis of information dissemination models in China
Open Access funded by China Agricultural UniversityOver the last three decades, Chinaâs agriculture sector has been transformed from the traditional to modern practice through the effective deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Information processing and dissemination have played a critical role in this transformation process. Many studies in relation to agriculture information services have been conducted in China, but few of them have attempted to provide a comprehensive review and analysis of different information dissemination models and their applications. This paper aims to review and identify the ICT based information dissemination models in China and to share the knowledge and experience in applying emerging ICTs in disseminating agriculture information to farmers and farm communities to improve productivity and economic, social and environmental sustainability. The paper reviews and analyzes the development stages of Chinaâs agricultural information dissemination systems and different mechanisms for agricultural information service development and operations. Seven ICT-based information dissemination models are identified and discussed. Success cases are presented. The findings provide a useful direction for researchers and practitioners in developing future ICT based information dissemination systems. It is hoped that this paper will also help other developing countries to learn from Chinaâs experience and best practice in their endeavor of applying emerging ICTs in agriculture information dissemination and knowledge transfer
The Digitalisation of African Agriculture Report 2018-2019
An inclusive, digitally-enabled agricultural transformation could help achieve meaningful livelihood improvements for Africaâs smallholder farmers and pastoralists. It could drive greater engagement in agriculture from women and youth and create employment opportunities along the value chain. At CTA we staked a claim on this power of digitalisation to more systematically transform agriculture early on. Digitalisation, focusing on not individual ICTs but the application of these technologies to entire value chains, is a theme that cuts across all of our work. In youth entrepreneurship, we are fostering a new breed of young ICT âagripreneursâ. In climate-smart agriculture multiple projects provide information that can help towards building resilience for smallholder farmers. And in women empowerment we are supporting digital platforms to drive greater inclusion for women entrepreneurs in agricultural value chains
CGIAR Excellence in Breeding Platform - Plan of Work and Budget 2020
At the end of 2019, all CGIAR centers had submitted improvement plans based on an EiB template and in close collaboration with EiB staff while â in a parallel process with breeding programs, funders and private sector representatives â a vision for breeding program modernization was developed and presented to CGIAR breeding leadership at the EiB Annual Meeting. This vision represents an evolution of EiB in the context of the Crops to End Hunger Initiative (CtEH) beyond the initial scope of providing tools, services and expert advice, and serves as a guide for Center leadership to drive changes with EiB support. In addition, EiB has taken the role of managing and disbursing funding, made available by Funders via CtEH to modernize breeding and enable CGIAR breeding programs to implement the vision provided by EiB
FutureFarm vision
This paper defines the first version of a vision of Future Farming project and also a knowledge management system used by European farms which will be designed and developed by the Future Farm project. An important part of the vision is a definition of external drivers and their influence on farm business in future. Paper is looking on a situation in three periods: short (2013), middle (2020) and long-term (2030). Our vision expects that the farming system will continuously converge to the situation of two types of farm: an industrial farm, which will guarantee both the food safety and the food security for European citizens, and multifunctional farms focused on environment protection. EDI - XML Standards and Technologies in the Agri-Food Industry
Due to globalisation, the new technological developments and the complexity of food
supply processes, the European food sector is increasingly becoming more complex. The consumersâ
trust in food, triggered and affected by a number of food crises, is low. Today, consumers increasingly
expect safe and high quality food and demand information about the origin of their food. Also, the
economic health of the food industry can be greatly affected by food crises; therefore, efficient and
effective mechanisms are required to assist the food industry in tracking and tracing products along the
food chain. In this paper, we discuss the criteria for an efficient and effective traceability system from
an IT perspective (mainly data exchange) and we identify key requirements for ICT enabled
traceability
Impact factors for mobile internet applications in the agri-food sectors
Mobile communication and the mobile Internet can provide important opportunities,
economic advantages for enterprises end organisations and support their more efficient operating as they can
be used anytime and anywhere. We can make their wide spread use, innovative effects and advantages
economical if we consider the effect system of technologies and services. The technological, social and
economical complex effect system puts a pressure on the spreading of business applications. The types of
applicable equipment are increasing. According to social aspects there are four player groups:
manufacturers, enterprises, customers and workers. The Internet technology and the Internet network have
become essential communication tools in business processes recently. Using the Internet by means of
mobile appliances increases the possibilities. By studying the business process the expenses, advantages,
disadvantages can well be seen. Nowadays these applications are more and more successful in areas such as
agriculture, different parts of the food industry, extension services, precision agriculture and logistics. It can
be stated that the international and the Hungarian development tendencies of the mobile Internet, the RTD
Programmes of EU help the wide-spread use of mobile services. The rapid development of the Hungarian
domestic mobile market over the last years is the basis for the wide spread use of new broadband mobile
services and applications. This system can contribute to the development of agriculture, enterprises and rural
areas and can support production, commerce, services and product tracing. But for successful applications
