    Proposing a customized exokernel library to data mining

    The implementation of customized system libraries in an exokernel environment is considered as a promising approach in optimizing data mining processes. Customized libraries in exokernel environments have been successfully used in optimizing other applications, and is potentially suitable to demanding applications such as data mining.     HIL: designing an exokernel for the data center

    We propose a new Exokernel-like layer to allow mutually untrusting physically deployed services to efficiently share the resources of a data center. We believe that such a layer offers not only efficiency gains, but may also enable new economic models, new applications, and new security-sensitive uses.     Protection in the Think exokernel

    In this paper, we present our preliminary ideas concerning the adaptation of security and protection techniques in the Think exokernel. Think is our proposition of a distributed adaptable kernel, designed according to the exokernel architecture. After summing up the main motivations for using the exokernel architecture, we describe the Think exokernel as it has been implemented on a PowerPC machine. We then present the major protection and security techniques that we plan to adapt to the Think environment, and give an example of how some of these techniques can be combined with the Think model to provide fair and protected resource management. Finally, we briefly present the iPAQ Pocket PC to which we plan to port the Think exokernel and explain our interest in this kind of mobile devices

    Active networks: an evolution of the internet

    Active Networks can be seen as an evolution of the classical model of packet-switched networks. The traditional and ”passive” network model is based on a static definition of the network node behaviour. Active Networks propose an “active” model where the intermediate nodes (switches and routers) can load and execute user code contained in the data units (packets). Active Networks are a programmable network model, where bandwidth and computation are both considered shared network resources. This approach opens up new interesting research fields. This paper gives a short introduction of Active Networks, discusses the advantages they introduce and presents the research advances in this field
