    THE GLOBAL OPTIMAL PLACEMENT OF BLE BEACON FOR LOCALIZATION BASED ON INDOOR MAP

    Anchor Nodes in a localization system obviously play a crucial role in determining the system’s quality. Their placement directly affects the localization accuracy and their number directly impacts the total cost of the system. Nowadays, the deployment of Bluetooth nodes in industry generally relies on the experience knowledge of engineers and the cost of positioning beacon does not considered the global level. In this paper, we put forward a method to extract the number and location of BLE beacon automatically and ensure a high positioning accuracy of the indoor positioning system based the rules of indoor positioning, which use all kinds of space objects and structure characteristics of indoor map. The triangulation method was selected to study the global optimal placement of BLE beacon for localization based on indoor map. The impacts and requirements of BLE beacon placement were systematic analysed from the triangulation positioning method, indoor positioning environment and indoor user distribution characteristics. According to the characteristics of indoor environment structure and user distribution, we built an optimization model of BLE beacon placement method based on genetic algorithm which can generate the number and the location of BLE beacon. At last, the Bluetooth indoor positioning prototype system is developed to compare the experience method deployment scheme and the global optimization deployment scheme in the real indoor positioning environment

    Wireless Positioning and Tracking for Internet of Things in GPS-denied Environments

    Wireless positioning and tracking have long been a critical technology for various applications such as indoor/outdoor navigation, surveillance, tracking of assets and employees, and guided tours, among others. Proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the evolution of smart cities, and vulnerabilities of traditional localization technologies to cyber-attacks such as jamming and spoofing of GPS necessitate development of novel radio frequency (RF) localization and tracking technologies that are accurate, energy-efficient, robust, scalable, non-invasive and secure. The main challenges that are considered in this research work are obtaining fundamental limits of localization accuracy using received signal strength (RSS) information with directional antennas, and use of burst and intermittent measurements for localization. In this dissertation, we consider various RSS-based techniques that rely on existing wireless infrastructures to obtain location information of corresponding IoT devices. In the first approach, we present a detailed study on localization accuracy of UHF RF IDentification (RFID) systems considering realistic radiation pattern of directional antennas. Radiation patterns of antennas and antenna arrays may significantly affect RSS in wireless networks. The sensitivity of tag antennas and receiver antennas play a crucial role. In this research, we obtain the fundamental limits of localization accuracy considering radiation patterns and sensitivity of the antennas by deriving Cramer-Rao Lower Bounds (CRLBs) using estimation theory techniques. In the second approach, we consider a millimeter Wave (mmWave) system with linear antenna array using beamforming radiation patterns to localize user equipment in an indoor environment. In the third approach, we introduce a tracking and occupancy monitoring system that uses ambient, bursty, and intermittent WiFi probe requests radiated from mobile devices. Burst and intermittent signals are prominent characteristics of IoT devices; using these features, we propose a tracking technique that uses interacting multiple models (IMM) with Kalman filtering. Finally, we tackle the problem of indoor UAV navigation to a wireless source using its Rayleigh fading RSS measurements. We propose a UAV navigation technique based on Q-learning that is a model-free reinforcement learning technique to tackle the variation in the RSS caused by Rayleigh fading

    LTE in unlicensed spectrum: indoor planning, performance evaluation, and coexistence with WiFi

    The pursuit of more bandwidth and more efficient spectrum usage has led to consider the use of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in unlicensed spectrum, a concept particularly useful for indoor deployments. However, LTE must be modified in order to guarantee a fair coexistence with other systems, particularly WiFi. There exist several coexistence methods, such as listen-before-talk (LBT), advanced channel selection, duty cycle, and variations of them. Research into unlicensed spectrum has focused into LTE Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) and LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U), expected to be specified in 2016. The contribution of this thesis is complementary to the current work, and is focused on coexistence from the perspective of network planning and radio access optimization. This is accomplished with a framework that yields optimized network topologies that maximize the benefits from the LTE deployment, fulfill coverage criteria, and minimize interference. The efficacy of the statistically optimized network topologies has also been validated by means of system level simulations

    Generative Mesh Modeling

    Generative Modeling is an alternative approach for the description of three-dimensional shape. The basic idea is to represent a model not as usual by an agglomeration of geometric primitives (triangles, point clouds, NURBS patches), but by functions. The paradigm change from objects to operations allows for a procedural representation of procedural shapes, such as most man-made objects. Instead of storing only the result of a 3D construction, the construction process itself is stored in a model file. The generative approach opens truly new perspectives in many ways, among others also for 3D knowledge management. It permits for instance to resort to a repository of already solved modeling problems, in order to re-use this knowledge also in different, slightly varied situations. The construction knowledge can be collected in digital libraries containing domain-specific parametric modeling tools. A concrete realization of this approach is a new general description language for 3D models, the "Generative Modeling Language" GML. As a Turing-complete "shape programming language" it is a basis of existing, primitv based 3D model formats. Together with its Runtime engine the GML permits - to store highly complex 3D models in a compact form, - to evaluate the description within fractions of a second, - to adaptively tesselate and to interactively display the model, - and even to change the models high-level parameters at runtime.Die generative Modellierung ist ein alternativer Ansatz zur Beschreibung von dreidimensionaler Form. Zugrunde liegt die Idee, ein Modell nicht wie üblich durch eine Ansammlung geometrischer Primitive (Dreiecke, Punkte, NURBS-Patches) zu beschreiben, sondern durch Funktionen. Der Paradigmenwechsel von Objekten zu Geometrie-erzeugenden Operationen ermöglicht es, prozedurale Modelle auch prozedural zu repräsentieren. Statt das Resultat eines 3D-Konstruktionsprozesses zu speichern, kann so der Konstruktionsprozess selber repräsentiert werden. Der generative Ansatz eröffnet unter anderem gänzlich neue Perspektiven für das Wissensmanagement im 3D-Bereich. Er ermöglicht etwa, auf einen Fundus bereits gelöster Konstruktions-Aufgaben zurückzugreifen, um sie in ähnlichen, aber leicht variierten Situationen wiederverwenden zu können. Das Konstruktions-Wissen kann dazu in Form von Bibliotheken parametrisierter, Domänen-spezifischer Modellier-Werkzeuge gesammelt werden. Konkret wird dazu eine neue allgemeine Modell-Beschreibungs-Sprache vorgeschlagen, die "Generative Modeling Language" GML. Als Turing-mächtige "Programmiersprache für Form" stellt sie eine echte Verallgemeinerung existierender Primitiv-basierter 3D-Modellformate dar. Zusammen mit ihrer Runtime-Engine erlaubt die GML, - hochkomplexe 3D-Objekte extrem kompakt zu beschreiben, - die Beschreibung innerhalb von Sekundenbruchteilen auszuwerten, - das Modell adaptiv darzustellen und interaktiv zu betrachten, - und die Modell-Parameter interaktiv zu verändern

    This Special Issue comprises selected papers from the proceedings of the 5th International Electronic Conference on Sensors and Applications, held on 15–30 November 2018, on sciforum.net, an online platform for hosting scholarly e-conferences and discussion groups. In this 5th edition of the electronic conference, contributors were invited to provide papers and presentations from the field of sensors and applications at large, resulting in a wide variety of excellent submissions and topic areas. Papers which attracted the most interest on the web or that provided a particularly innovative contribution were selected for publication in this collection. These peer-reviewed papers are published with the aim of rapid and wide dissemination of research results, developments, and applications.     Multicriteria pathfinding in uncertain simulated environments

These problems present various alternatives to a decision-maker, who must evaluate the trade-offs between each one and choose a course of action. In a sequential decision-making problem, each choice can influence which alternatives are available for subsequent actions, requiring the decision-maker to plan ahead in order to satisfy a set of objectives. These problems become more difficult, but more realistic, when information is restricted, either through partial observability or by approximate representations. Pathfinding in partially observable environments is one significant context in which a decision-making agent must develop a plan of action that satisfies multiple criteria. In general, the partially observable multiobjective pathfinding problem requires an agent to navigate to certain goal locations in an environment with various attributes that may be partially hidden, while minimizing a set of objective functions. To solve these types of problems, we create agent models based on the concept of a mental map that represents the agent's most recent spatial knowledge of the environment, using fuzzy numbers to represent uncertainty. We develop a simulation framework that facilitates the creation and deployment of a wide variety of environment types, problem definitions, and agent models. This computational mental map (CMM) framework is shown to be suitable for studying various types of sequential multicriteria decision-making problems, such as the shortest path problem, the traveling salesman problem, and the traveling purchaser problem in multiobjective and partially observable configurations.Includes bibliographical references (pages 294-301)
