    Algorithms and programming tools for image processing on the MPP, part 2

    Get PDF
    A number of algorithms were developed for image warping and pyramid image filtering. Techniques were investigated for the parallel processing of a large number of independent irregular shaped regions on the MPP. In addition some utilities for dealing with very long vectors and for sorting were developed. Documentation pages for the algorithms which are available for distribution are given. The performance of the MPP for a number of basic data manipulations was determined. From these results it is possible to predict the efficiency of the MPP for a number of algorithms and applications. The Parallel Pascal development system, which is a portable programming environment for the MPP, was improved and better documentation including a tutorial was written. This environment allows programs for the MPP to be developed on any conventional computer system; it consists of a set of system programs and a library of general purpose Parallel Pascal functions. The algorithms were tested on the MPP and a presentation on the development system was made to the MPP users group. The UNIX version of the Parallel Pascal System was distributed to a number of new sites

    A Syntax-Directed Editor for Borland’s Turbo Pascal

    This study details the design and implementation of the LSD program, a syntax-directed editor for use in editing the source code for Borland’s Turbo Pascal. LSD is a dual-mode editor which allows both traditional text editing and also grammar-based editing. LSD promotes better programming for novice users by allowing the user to edit the program with a graphical representation of a parse tree. A list of syntactically correct choices is displayed at each point where a choice must be made in the structure of the program. Since only these choices are available, no syntax errors are possible. For more advanced users, the ability to take an existing program and display the syntax tree will help show the underlying structure of the Pascal language grammar

    Exploring C++

    This book is intended for use by C programmers who want to learn C++ . . . fast. It may also be helpful for Java programmers learning C++ . It assumes that the reader knows basic programming including types, control structures, functions, arrays, pointers, and simple data structures. The material should help you develop a deep understanding of clean program design and the features that make C++ a powerful and flexible language.https://digitalcommons.newhaven.edu/electricalcomputerengineering-books/1001/thumbnail.jp

    Reviewing GPU architectures to build efficient back projection for parallel geometries

    Back-Projection is the major algorithm in Computed Tomography to reconstruct images from a set of recorded projections. It is used for both fast analytical methods and high-quality iterative techniques. X-ray imaging facilities rely on Back-Projection to reconstruct internal structures in material samples and living organisms with high spatial and temporal resolution. Fast image reconstruction is also essential to track and control processes under study in real-time. In this article, we present efficient implementations of the Back-Projection algorithm for parallel hardware. We survey a range of parallel architectures presented by the major hardware vendors during the last 10 years. Similarities and differences between these architectures are analyzed and we highlight how specific features can be used to enhance the reconstruction performance. In particular, we build a performance model to find hardware hotspots and propose several optimizations to balance the load between texture engine, computational and special function units, as well as different types of memory maximizing the utilization of all GPU subsystems in parallel. We further show that targeting architecture-specific features allows one to boost the performance 2–7 times compared to the current state-of-the-art algorithms used in standard reconstructions codes. The suggested load-balancing approach is not limited to the back-projection but can be used as a general optimization strategy for implementing parallel algorithms
