Examples of works to practice staccato technique in clarinet instrument
Klarnetin staccato tekniğini güçlendirme aşamaları eser çalışmalarıyla uygulanmıştır. Staccato
geçişlerini hızlandıracak ritim ve nüans çalışmalarına yer verilmiştir. Çalışmanın en önemli amacı
sadece staccato çalışması değil parmak-dilin eş zamanlı uyumunun hassasiyeti üzerinde de
durulmasıdır. Staccato çalışmalarını daha verimli hale getirmek için eser çalışmasının içinde etüt
çalışmasına da yer verilmiştir. Çalışmaların üzerinde titizlikle durulması staccato çalışmasının ilham
verici etkisi ile müzikal kimliğe yeni bir boyut kazandırmıştır. Sekiz özgün eser çalışmasının her
aşaması anlatılmıştır. Her aşamanın bir sonraki performans ve tekniği güçlendirmesi esas alınmıştır.
Bu çalışmada staccato tekniğinin hangi alanlarda kullanıldığı, nasıl sonuçlar elde edildiği bilgisine
yer verilmiştir. Notaların parmak ve dil uyumu ile nasıl şekilleneceği ve nasıl bir çalışma disiplini
içinde gerçekleşeceği planlanmıştır. Kamış-nota-diyafram-parmak-dil-nüans ve disiplin
kavramlarının staccato tekniğinde ayrılmaz bir bütün olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırmada literatür
taraması yapılarak staccato ile ilgili çalışmalar taranmıştır. Tarama sonucunda klarnet tekniğin de
kullanılan staccato eser çalışmasının az olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Metot taramasında da etüt
çalışmasının daha çok olduğu saptanmıştır. Böylelikle klarnetin staccato tekniğini hızlandırma ve
güçlendirme çalışmaları sunulmuştur. Staccato etüt çalışmaları yapılırken, araya eser çalışmasının
girmesi beyni rahatlattığı ve istekliliği daha arttırdığı gözlemlenmiştir. Staccato çalışmasını yaparken
doğru bir kamış seçimi üzerinde de durulmuştur. Staccato tekniğini doğru çalışmak için doğru bir
kamışın dil hızını arttırdığı saptanmıştır. Doğru bir kamış seçimi kamıştan rahat ses çıkmasına
bağlıdır. Kamış, dil atma gücünü vermiyorsa daha doğru bir kamış seçiminin yapılması gerekliliği
vurgulanmıştır. Staccato çalışmalarında baştan sona bir eseri yorumlamak zor olabilir. Bu açıdan
çalışma, verilen müzikal nüanslara uymanın, dil atış performansını rahatlattığını ortaya koymuştur.
Gelecek nesillere edinilen bilgi ve birikimlerin aktarılması ve geliştirici olması teşvik edilmiştir.
Çıkacak eserlerin nasıl çözüleceği, staccato tekniğinin nasıl üstesinden gelinebileceği anlatılmıştır.
Staccato tekniğinin daha kısa sürede çözüme kavuşturulması amaç edinilmiştir. Parmakların
yerlerini öğrettiğimiz kadar belleğimize de çalışmaların kaydedilmesi önemlidir. Gösterilen azmin ve
sabrın sonucu olarak ortaya çıkan yapıt başarıyı daha da yukarı seviyelere çıkaracaktır

Antecedents of business intelligence system use
This thesis was submitted for the award of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University London.Organisational reliance on information has become vital for organisational competitiveness. With increasing data volumes, Business Intelligence (BI) becomes a cornerstone of the decision-support system. However, employee resistance to use Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) is evident. This creates a problem to organisations in realising the benefits of BIS. It is thus important to study the enablers of sustained use of BIS amongst employees.
This thesis identifies existing theories that can be used to study BI system use. It integrates and extends technology use theories through a framework focusing on Business Intelligence System Use (BISU). Empirical research is then conducted in Kuwait’s telecom and banking industries through a close-ended, self-administered questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale. Responses were received from 211 BI users. The data was analysed using SmartPLS to study the convergent and discriminant validity and reliability. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to study the direct and indirect relationships between constructs and answer the hypotheses. In addition to SmartPLS, SPSS was used for descriptive analysis.
The results indicated that UTAUT factors consisting of performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence positively impact BI system use. Voluntariness of use was found to positively moderate the relationship between social influence and BI system use. Furthermore, BI system quality positively impacts both performance expectancy and effort expectancy. The BI user’s self-efficacy also positively impacts effort expectancy. In addition, social influence was found to be positively influenced by organisational factors, namely top management support and information culture.
The findings of this research contribute to literature by determining and quantifying the factors that influence BISU through the lens of employee perspectives. This thesis also explains how employees’ object-based beliefs about BI affect their behavioural beliefs, which in turn impact BISU. Limitations of this research include the omission of UTAUT’s facilitating conditions and the limited variance of respondent demographics
The crisis of cultural authority in museums : contesting human remains in the collections of Britain
Museums in Britain have displayed and researched human remains since the eighteenth century. However, in the last two decades human remains in collections have become subject to claims and controversies. Firstly, human remains associated with acquisition during the colonial period have become increasingly difficult to retain and have been transfered to culturally affiliated overseas indigenous groups. Secondly, a group of British Pagans have formed to make claims on ancient human remains in collections. Thirdly, human remains that are not requested by any community group, and of all ages, have become the focus of concerns expressed about their treatment by members of the profession. A discourse arguing for 'respect' has emerged, which argues that all human remains should be treated with new care. The claims made on human remains have been vigourously but differentially contested by members of the sector, who consider the human remains to be unique research objects. This thesis charts the influences at play on the contestation over human remains and examines its construction. The academic literature tends to understand changes to museums as a result of external factors. This thesis argues that this problem is influenced by a crisis of legitimacy and establishes that there are strong internal influences. Through a weak social constructionist approach I demonstrate that the issue has been promoted by influential members of the sector as part of a broader attempt to distance themselves from their foundational role, as a consequence of a crisis of cultural authority stimulated by external and internal factors. The symbolic character of human remains in locating this problem is informed by the unique properties of dead bodies and is influenced by the significance of the body as a scientific object; its association with identity work and as a site of political struggle, in the high modem period
The Impact of a Play Intervention on the Social-Emotional Development of Preschool Children in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Practitioners working with children have emphasized that play is vital to children’s development, Links between children’s social-emotional development and play have been widely documented. However, rigorous research evidence of these links remains limited. This study’s objectives were to measure the impact of play on children’s social-emotional development in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia; identify teachers’ viewpoints around the use of play intervention; and understand the children’s experience of play intervention. Fifty-nine children aged between five and six years, with mean age of 5.5 (SD 3.376) and eight teachers participated in the study. The study used a mixed-method strategy including questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. Children’s social-emotional development was measured by using the Strengths and Difficulties Questioner (SDQ). A pre-/post-test counterbalanced design was used to measure the impact of the play intervention on children’s development. Teachers’ perspectives on play were obtained by interviewing eight teachers. Children’s views were gathered through focus group discussions. Repeated measures ANOVA was conducted to determine the differences in the SDQ score over three time points. Results showed that using unstructured loose parts play had positively impacted children’s social-emotional development. After participation in the play intervention, scores from the SDQ indicated that children demonstrated significantly less problematic emotional, conduct and peer relationship issues. They also scored significantly higher in their positive prosocial behaviour. These positive effects were sustained after six weeks of stopping the intervention. The play intervention did not however impact children’s hyperactivity level. The interviews analysis illustrates four main themes: concept and characteristics of play, play functions, developmental benefits of play, and play and practice. Regarding children’s discussion, affordance emerged as a main theme; this includes emotional, social, and functional affordances. Unstructured loose parts play intervention was demonstrated to have positive impacts on children’s social-emotional development. After Creation: Intergovernmental Organizations and Member State Governments as Co-Participants in an Authority Relationship
This is a re-amalgamation of what started as one manuscript and became two when the length proved to be more than any publisher wanted to consider. The splitting consisted of removing what are now Parts 3, 4, and 5 so that the manuscript focused on the outcome-related shared beliefs holding an authority relationship together. Those parts were last worked on in 2018. The rest were last worked on in late 2021 but also remain incomplete.
The relational approach adopted in this study treats intergovernmental organizations and the governments of member states as co-participants in an authority relationship with the governments of their member states. Authority relationships link two types of actor, defined by their authority-holder or addressee role in the relationship, through a set of shared beliefs about why the relationship exists and how the participants should fulfill their respective roles. The IGO as authority holder has a role that includes a right to instruct other actors about what they should or should not do; the governments of member states as addressees are expected to comply with the instructions. Three sets of shared beliefs provide the conceptual “glue” holding the relationship together. The first defines the goal of the collective effort, providing both the rationale for having the authority relationship and providing a lode star for assessments of the collective effort’s success or lack of success. The second set defines the shared understanding about allocation of roles and the process of interaction by establishing shared expectations about a) the selection process by which particular actors acquire authority holder roles, b) the definitions identifying one or more categories of addressees expected to follow instructions, and c) the procedures through which the authority holder issues instructions. The third set focus on the outcomes of cooperation through the relationship by defining a) the substantive areas in which the authority holder may issue instructions, b) the bases for assessing the relevance actions mandated in instructions for reaching the goal, and c) the relative efficacy of action paths chosen for reaching the goal as compared to other possible action paths.
Using an authority relationship framework for analyzing cooperation through IGOs highlights the inherently bi-directional nature of IGO-member government activity by viewing their interaction as involving a three-step process in which the IGO as authority holder decides when to issue what instruction, the member state governments as followers react to the instruction with anything from prompt and full compliance through various forms of pushback to outright rejection, and the IGO as authority holder responds to how the followers react with efforts to increase individual compliance with instructions and reinforce continuing acceptance of the authority relationship. Foregrounding the dynamics produced by the interaction of these two streams of perception and action reveals more clearly how far intergovernmental organizations acquire capacity to operate as independent actors, the dynamic ways they maintain that capacity, and how much they influence member governments’ beliefs and actions at different times. The approach fosters better understanding of why, when, and for how long governments choose cooperation through an IGO even in periods of rising unilateralism

This PhD thesis presents details about the usage of diamond in electronics. It presents a review of the properties of diamond and the mechanisms of its growth using hot filament chemical vapour deposition (HFCVD). Presented in the thesis are the experimental details and discussions that follow from it about the optimization of the deposition technique and the growth of diamond on various electronically relevant substrates. The discussions present an analysis of the parameters typically involved in the HFCVD, particularly the pre-treatment that the substrates receive- namely, the novel nucleation procedure (NNP), as well as growth temperatures and plasma chemistry and how they affect the characteristics of the thus-grown films. Extensive morphological and spectroscopic analysis has been made in order to characterise these films.Este trabalho discute a utilização de diamante em aplicações electrónicas. É apresentada uma revisão detalhada das propriedades de diamante e dos respectivos mecanismos de crescimento utilizando deposição química a partir da fase vapor com filament quente (hot filament chemical vapour deposition - HFCVD). Os detalhes experimentais relativos à otimização desta técnica tendo em vista o crescimento de diamante em vários substratos com relevância em eletrónica são apresentados e discutidos com detalhe. A discussão inclui a análise dos parâmetros tipicamente envolvidos em HFCVD, em particular do pré-tratamento que o substrato recebe e que é conhecido na literatura como "novel nucleation procedure" (NNP), assim como das temperaturas de crescimento e da química do plasma, bem como a influência de todos estes parâmetros nas características finais dos filmes. A deep phenotyping approach to understand major depressive disorder and responses to antidepressant pharmacotherapy
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a debilitating psychiatric disorder characterised by a complex underlying biology and poor response to pharmacological antidepressant strategies. Given the heterogeneity of MDD and the diverse range of available treatment options, there is an increasing desire to develop and implement precision medicine approaches to tailor existing treatment strategies to the biological system of the individual. In this thesis, high-resolution omics data (connectomics [fMRI], metabolomics [1H NMR] and immunomics [inflammatory cytokines]) collected from the Canadian Biomarker Integration Network in Depression (CAN-BIND) study has been integrated to facilitate the deep phenotyping of MDD. In addition, this approach has been used to predict the treatment response to two common antidepressant drugs, monotherapy with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) escitalopram (10-20 mg) or combination therapy with escitalopram and the dopaminergic antipsychotic aripiprazole (2-10 mg). This approach identified a multi-modal panel of sex-specific biomarkers of MDD and treatment response, highlighting a strong immunometabolic component in depressed males, but not females. Unsupervised clustering methods indicated the superiority of biological (neuroimaging) over symptom-based (clinical questionnaires) data for the stratification of patients into MDD subtypes with differential response to treatment. More importantly, a set of multi-modal, sex-specific biomarkers were identified that predicted treatment response with escitalopram monotherapy (84.7% accuracy) or aripiprazole augmentation (88.5% accuracy). In addition to highlighting potential new aspects of the biology of MDD (e.g. relevance of lipoprotein size and density for their relation to depression), this work is one of the first attempts to apply systems biology approaches to high-resolution biological data from a large clinical trial to predict later treatment outcome. With the validation of the findings presented in this thesis in independent cohorts, and with further development of omics technologies, leading to cheaper and high-throughput screening of the patient population, pre-dose biomarkers have the potential to achieve personalised treatment. Each year, escitalopram and aripiprazole are prescribed to an estimated 26 million and 7 million individuals respectively, and over one third of them do not respond. Thus, being able to predict response to antidepressant medication from baseline biomarkers has enormous clinical and socioeconomic benefits.Open Acces

Mental Wellbeing in Distance Learning: Barriers, Enablers and Solutions
Student mental wellbeing is a significant issue in higher education; increasing numbers of students are disclosing mental health difficulties, and statistics show persistent impacts on their study success. This is particularly critical in distance education; distance learners disclose mental health issues at a higher rate than campus-based students, they tend to study in isolation, and campus-based support is generally not available to them. Research has found that aspects of higher education can trigger or exacerbate mental health difficulties, but these ‘barriers’ to wellbeing are under-researched in distance learning. With increasing numbers of students studying remotely, it is crucial that the barriers to mental wellbeing within distance learning curricula, tuition, environments, and culture are understood, and that solutions to address these are identified.
This study explored barriers and enablers to student mental wellbeing in a distance learning institution, and co-created solutions that could be embedded in practice.
First, students (N=16) and tutors (N=5) were interviewed using narrative inquiry. Findings are represented as a taxonomy of barriers and enablers across three categories (study-related, skills-related, and environmental.)
Second, focus groups were held with staff (N=107) and students (N=9). Collaboratively generated solution ideas were identified and were turned into 16 pilot project proposals, including staff training, additional resources for students and staff, and changes to practice.
Third, seven solution ideas were piloted and evaluated as ‘praxis’ projects, using facilitated practitioner research.
Fourth, surveys sought wider insight from students (N=584) and staff (N=666) on barriers and enablers to wellbeing, ideas for solutions, and perceptions of the solutions being piloted. Findings reveal different experiences of barriers and enablers according to student demographics, but that assessment and life circumstances were generally the most commonly experienced barriers and that staff training was the most popular piloted solution.
The findings and outputs of this study are positioned as an agenda for change that makes a contribution to knowledge and practice, and can begin to pave the way towards more inclusive distance learning practice that is more conducive to student mental wellbeing
