Automatic Optimisation of Reliable Collaborative Services in OLSR Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
International audienceFuture Network based Operations (NbO) will strongly rely on Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET), due to urban area, tactical mobility and assymetric operation management. These networks will support multiple collaborative services, such as sensor to shooters, reachback, maintenance of Common Operational Picture (COP). Both networks and services will have to be managed with no or limited operator intervention, still providing reliable behavior in spite of aggressive environments. At routing level, we present how to preserve 2-connectivity by adapting the Optimised Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR). We also introduce the concept of active subnet management to retrieve maximal operational gain from collaborative services. Following a constraint solving method, the paper shows how to maximise the subnet of actors, while satisfying 2-connectivity, reactivity and communication quality constraints. We demonstrate the approach on simulating real world NbO
Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
Being infrastructure-less and without central administration control, wireless ad-hoc networking is playing a more and more important role in extending the coverage of traditional wireless infrastructure (cellular networks, wireless LAN, etc). This book includes state-of-the-art techniques and solutions for wireless ad-hoc networks. It focuses on the following topics in ad-hoc networks: quality-of-service and video communication, routing protocol and cross-layer design. A few interesting problems about security and delay-tolerant networks are also discussed. This book is targeted to provide network engineers and researchers with design guidelines for large scale wireless ad hoc networks
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Guiding readers through the basics of these rapidly emerging networks to more advanced concepts and future expectations, Mobile Ad hoc Networks: Current Status and Future Trends identifies and examines the most pressing research issues in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Containing the contributions of leading researchers, industry professionals, and academics, this forward-looking reference provides an authoritative perspective of the state of the art in MANETs. The book includes surveys of recent publications that investigate key areas of interest such as limited resources and the mobility of mobile nodes. It considers routing, multicast, energy, security, channel assignment, and ensuring quality of service. Also suitable as a text for graduate students, the book is organized into three sections: Fundamentals of MANET Modeling and SimulationâDescribes how MANETs operate and perform through simulations and models Communication Protocols of MANETsâPresents cutting-edge research on key issues, including MAC layer issues and routing in high mobility Future Networks Inspired By MANETsâTackles open research issues and emerging trends Illustrating the role MANETs are likely to play in future networks, this book supplies the foundation and insight you will need to make your own contributions to the field. It includes coverage of routing protocols, modeling and simulations tools, intelligent optimization techniques to multicriteria routing, security issues in FHAMIPv6, connecting moving smart objects to the Internet, underwater sensor networks, wireless mesh network architecture and protocols, adaptive routing provision using Bayesian inference, and adaptive flow control in transport layer using genetic algorithms

Routing Protocols for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks: A Survey from an Application Perspective
Underwater acoustic communications are different from terrestrial radio communications; acoustic channel is asymmetric and has large and variable endâtoâend propagation delays, distanceâdependent limited bandwidth, high bit error rates, and multiâpath fading. Besides, nodesâ mobility and limited battery power also cause problems for networking protocol design. Among them, routing in underwater acoustic networks is a challenging task, and many protocols have been proposed. In this chapter, we first classify the routing protocols according to application scenarios, which are classified according to the number of sinks that an underwater acoustic sensor network (UASN) may use, namely singleâsink, multiâsink, and noâsink. We review some typical routing strategies proposed for these application scenarios, such as crossâlayer and reinforcement learning as well as opportunistic routing. Finally, some remaining key issues are highlighted
A PROTOCOL SUITE FOR WIRELESS PERSONAL AREA NETWORKS
A Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) is an ad hoc network that consists of devices that surround an individual or an object. BluetoothÂź technology is especially suitable for formation of WPANs due to the pervasiveness of devices with BluetoothÂź chipsets, its operation in the unlicensed Industrial, Scientific, Medical (ISM) frequency band, and its interference resilience. BluetoothÂź technology has great potential to become the de facto standard for communication between heterogeneous devices in WPANs.
The piconet, which is the basic BluetoothÂź networking unit, utilizes a Master/Slave (MS) configuration that permits only a single master and up to seven active slave devices. This structure limitation prevents BluetoothÂź devices from directly participating in larger Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) and Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs). In order to build larger BluetoothÂź topologies, called scatternets, individual piconets must be interconnected. Since each piconet has a unique frequency hopping sequence, piconet interconnections are done by allowing some nodes, called bridges, to participate in more than one piconet. These bridge nodes divide their time between piconets by switching between Frequency Hopping (FH) channels and synchronizing to the piconet\u27s master.
In this dissertation we address scatternet formation, routing, and security to make BluetoothÂź scatternet communication feasible. We define criteria for efficient scatternet topologies, describe characteristics of different scatternet topology models as well as compare and contrast their properties, classify existing scatternet formation approaches based on the aforementioned models, and propose a distributed scatternet formation algorithm that efficiently forms a scatternet topology and is resilient to node failures.
We propose a hybrid routing algorithm, using a bridge link agnostic approach, that provides on-demand discovery of destination devices by their address or by the services that devices provide to their peers, by extending the Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) to scatternets.
We also propose a link level security scheme that provides secure communication between adjacent piconet masters, within what we call an Extended Scatternet Neighborhood (ESN)
