Holistic Temporal Situation Interpretation for Traffic Participant Prediction
For a profound understanding of traffic situations including a prediction of traf-
fic participantsā future motion, behaviors and routes it is crucial to incorporate all
available environmental observations. The presence of sensor noise and depen-
dency uncertainties, the variety of available sensor data, the complexity of large
traffic scenes and the large number of different estimation tasks with diverging
requirements require a general method that gives a robust foundation for the de-
velopment of estimation applications.
In this work, a general description language, called Object-Oriented Factor Graph
Modeling Language (OOFGML), is proposed, that unifies formulation of esti-
mation tasks from the application-oriented problem description via the choice
of variable and probability distribution representation through to the inference
method definition in implementation. The different language properties are dis-
cussed theoretically using abstract examples.
The derivation of explicit application examples is shown for the automated driv-
ing domain. A domain-specific ontology is defined which forms the basis for
four exemplary applications covering the broad spectrum of estimation tasks in
this domain: Basic temporal filtering, ego vehicle localization using advanced
interpretations of perceived objects, road layout perception utilizing inter-object
dependencies and finally highly integrated route, behavior and motion estima-
tion to predict traffic participantās future actions. All applications are evaluated
as proof of concept and provide an example of how their class of estimation tasks
can be represented using the proposed language. The language serves as a com-
mon basis and opens a new field for further research towards holistic solutions
for automated driving
How you move reveals who you are: understanding human behavior by analyzing trajectory data
The widespread use of mobile devices is producing a huge amount of trajectory data, making the discovery of movement patterns possible, which are crucial for understanding human behavior. Significant advances have been made with regard to knowledge discovery, but the process now needs to be extended bearing in mind the emerging field of behavior informatics. This paper describes the formalization of a semantic-enriched KDD process for supporting meaningful pattern interpretations of human behavior. Our approach is based on the integration of inductive reasoning (movement pattern discovery) and deductive reasoning (human behavior inference). We describe the implemented Athena system, which supports such a process, along with the experimental results on two different application domains related to traffic and recreation management
Answer Set Programming Modulo `Space-Time'
We present ASP Modulo `Space-Time', a declarative representational and
computational framework to perform commonsense reasoning about regions with
both spatial and temporal components. Supported are capabilities for mixed
qualitative-quantitative reasoning, consistency checking, and inferring
compositions of space-time relations; these capabilities combine and synergise
for applications in a range of AI application areas where the processing and
interpretation of spatio-temporal data is crucial. The framework and resulting
system is the only general KR-based method for declaratively reasoning about
the dynamics of `space-time' regions as first-class objects. We present an
empirical evaluation (with scalability and robustness results), and include
diverse application examples involving interpretation and control tasks
A semi-supervised learning framework based on spatio-temporal semantic events for maritime anomaly detection and behavior analysis
International audienceDetection of abnormal movements of mobile objects has recently received a lot of attention due to the increasing availability of movement data and their potential for ensuring security in many different contexts. As timely detection of these events is often important, most current approaches use automated data-driven approaches. While these approaches have proved to be effective in specific contexts, they are not easily accepted by operators in charge of surveillance due, among other reasons, to the lack of user involvement during the detection process. To improve the detection and analysis of maritime anomalies this paper explores the potential of spatial ontologies for modeling maritime operator knowledge. The goal of this research is to facilitate the integration of human knowledge by modeling it in the form of semantic rules to improve confidence and trust in the anomaly detection system
An Intelligent Knowledge Management System from a Semantic Perspective
Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) are important tools by which organizations can better use information and, more importantly, manage knowledge. Unlike other strategies, knowledge management (KM) is difficult to define because it encompasses a range of concepts, management tasks, technologies, and organizational practices, all of which come under the umbrella of the information management. Semantic approaches allow easier and more efficient training, maintenance, and support knowledge. Current ICT markets are dominated by relational databases and document-centric information technologies, procedural algorithmic programming paradigms, and stack architecture. A key driver of global economic expansion in the coming decade is the build-out of broadband telecommunications and the deployment of intelligent services bundling. This paper introduces the main characteristics of an Intelligent Knowledge Management System as a multiagent system used in a Learning Control Problem (IKMSLCP), from a semantic perspective. We describe an intelligent KM framework, allowing the observer (a human agent) to learn from experience. This framework makes the system dynamic (flexible and adaptable) so it evolves, guaranteeing high levels of stability when performing his domain problem P. Hybrid automata dicretising agents for formal modelling of robots
Some of the fundamental capabilities required by autonomous vehicles and systems for their intelligent decision making are: modelling of the environment and forming data abstractions for symbolic, logic based reasoning. The paper formulates a discrete agent framework that abstracts and controls a hybrid system that is a composition of hybrid automata modelled continuous individual processes. Theoretical foundations are laid down for a class of general model composition agents (MCAs) with an advanced subclass of rational physical agents (RPAs). We define MCAs as the most basic structures for the description of complex autonomous robotic systems. The RPAās have logic based decision making that is obtained by an extension of the hybrid systems concepts using a set of abstractions. The theory presented helps the creation of robots with reliable performance and safe operation in their environment. The paper emphasizes the abstraction aspects of the overall hybrid system that emerges from parallel composition of sets of RPAs and MCAs
Agent-Based Models and Simulations in Economics and Social Sciences: from conceptual exploration to distinct ways of experimenting
Now that complex Agent-Based Models and computer simulations
spread over economics and social sciences - as in most sciences of complex
systems -, epistemological puzzles (re)emerge. We introduce new
epistemological tools so as to show to what precise extent each author is right
when he focuses on some empirical, instrumental or conceptual significance of
his model or simulation. By distinguishing between models and simulations,
between types of models, between types of computer simulations and between
types of empiricity, section 2 gives conceptual tools to explain the rationale of
the diverse epistemological positions presented in section 1. Finally, we claim
that a careful attention to the real multiplicity of denotational powers of
symbols at stake and then to the implicit routes of references operated by
models and computer simulations is necessary to determine, in each case, the
proper epistemic status and credibility of a given model and/or simulation
