    Optimum cost analysis for an Geo/Geo/c/N feedback queue under synchronous working vacations and impatient customers

    This paper concerns the cost optimisation analysis of a discrete-time finite-capacity multiserver queueing system with Bernoulli feedback, synchronous multiple and single working vacations, balking, and reneging during both busy and working vacation periods. A reneged customer can be retained in the system by employing certain persuasive mechanism for completion of service. Using recursive method, the explicit expressions for the stationary state probabilities are obtained. Various system performance measures are presented. Further, a cost model is formulated. Then, the optimization of the model is carried out using quadratic fit search method (QFSM). Finally, the impact of various system parameters on the performance measures of the queueing system is shown numerically.</p

    On two modifications of E-r/E-s/1/m queuing system subject to disasters

    The paper deals with modelling a finite single-server queuing system with the server subject to disasters. Inter-arrival times and service times are assumed to follow the Erlang distribution defined by the shape parameter r or s and the scale parameter rλ or sμ respectively. We consider two modifications of the model − server failures are supposed to be operate-independent or operate-dependent. Server failures which have the character of so-called disasters cause interruption of customer service, emptying the system and balking incoming customers when the server is down. We assume that random variables relevant to server failures and repairs are exponentially distributed. The constructed mathematical model is solved using Matlab to obtain steady-state probabilities which we need to compute the performance measures. At the conclusion of the paper some results of executed experiments are shown.Web of Science12215814

    Generalized gap acceptance models for unsignalized intersections

    This paper contributes to the modeling and analysis of unsignalized intersections. In classical gap acceptance models vehicles on the minor road accept any gap greater than the CRITICAL gap, and reject gaps below this threshold, where the gap is the time between two subsequent vehicles on the major road. The main contribution of this paper is to develop a series of generalizations of existing models, thus increasing the model's practical applicability significantly. First, we incorporate {driver impatience behavior} while allowing for a realistic merging behavior; we do so by distinguishing between the critical gap and the merging time, thus allowing MULTIPLE vehicles to use a sufficiently large gap. Incorporating this feature is particularly challenging in models with driver impatience. Secondly, we allow for multiple classes of gap acceptance behavior, enabling us to distinguish between different driver types and/or different vehicle types. Thirdly, we use the novel MX^X/SM2/1 queueing model, which has batch arrivals, dependent service times, and a different service-time distribution for vehicles arriving in an empty queue on the minor road (where `service time' refers to the time required to find a sufficiently large gap). This setup facilitates the analysis of the service-time distribution of an arbitrary vehicle on the minor road and of the queue length on the minor road. In particular, we can compute the MEAN service time, thus enabling the evaluation of the capacity for the minor road vehicles

    In this manuscript, a queueing system with two optional vacation policies, power-saving mode under reneging and retention of reneged customers in both vacations is analyzed. If the server is free, it chooses either of the vacations, classical vacation or working vacation. During vacations, the customers may get impatient due to delays and may leave the system, but they are retained in the system with some convincing mechanisms. On vacation completion, if the system is empty, the server is turned off to facilitate better utilization of the resources. Some of the operating system characteristics are derived using the probability generating functions technique. The numerical results are graphically represented by using MATLAB software

    In this paper, using probability generating function method, Impatient customers in an Markovian queue with Bernoulli schedule working vacation interruption and setup time is discussed. Customers impatience is due to the servers vacation. During the working vacation period, if there are customers in the queue, the vacation can be interrupted at a service completion instant and the server begins a regular service period with probability (1 - b) or continues the vacation with probability b. We obtain the probability generating functions of the stationary state probabilities, performance measures, sojourn time of a customer and stochastic decomposition of the queue length, waiting time and numerical results

    (R1971) Analysis of Feedback Queueing Model with Differentiated Vacations under Classical Retrial Policy

    This paper analyzes an M/M/1 retrial queue under differentiated vacations and Bernoulli feedback policy. On receiving the service, if the customer is not satisfied, then he may join the retrial group again with some probability and demand for service or may leave the system with the complementary probability. Using the probability generating functions technique, the steady-state solutions of the system are obtained. Furthermore, we have obtained some of the important performance measures such as expected orbit length, expected length of the system, sojourn times and probability of server being in different states. Using MATLAB software, we have represented the graphical interpretation of the results obtained. Finally, the cost is optimized using the parabolic method
