Copyright @ Springer 2012.Analogue circuits synthesised by means of open-ended evolutionary algorithms often have unconventional designs. However, these circuits are typically highly compact, and the general nature of the evolutionary search methodology allows such designs to be used in many applications. Previous work on the evolutionary design of analogue circuits has focused on circuits that lie well within analogue application domain. In contrast, our paper considers the evolution of analogue circuits that are usually synthesised in digital logic. We have developed four computational circuits, two voltage distributor circuits and a time interval metre circuit. The approach, despite its simplicity, succeeds over the design tasks owing to the employment of substructure reuse and incremental evolution. Our findings expand the range of applications that are considered suitable for evolutionary electronics

© 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. This is the accepted version of the following article: Li, M, Sun, Y. General rational approximation of Gaussian wavelet series and continuous‐time g m ‐C filter implementation. Int J Circ Theor Appl. 2020; 1– 17., which has been published in final form at https://doi.org/10.1002/cta.2834.A general method of rational approximation for Gaussian wavelet series and Gaussian wavelet filter circuit design with simple gm-C integrators is presented in this work. Firstly, the multi-order derivatives of Gaussian function are analysed and proved as wavelet base functions. Then a high accuracy general approximation model of Gaussian wavelet series is constructed and the transfer function of first order derivative of Gaussian wavelet filter is obtained using quantum differential evolution (QDE) algorithm. Thirdly, as an example, a 5th order continuous-time analogue first order derivative of Gaussian wavelet filter circuit is designed based on multiple loop feedback structure with simple gm-C integrator as the basic blocks. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the proposed method is an excellent way for the wavelet transform implementation. The designed first order derivative of Gaussian wavelet filter circuit operates from a 0.53V supply voltage and a bias current 2.5nA. The power dissipation of the wavelet filter circuit at the basic scale is 41.1nW. Moreover, the high accuracy QRS detection based on the designed wavelet filter has been validated in application analysis.Peer reviewe

Robust observer for uncertain linear quantum systems

In the theory of quantum dynamical filtering, one of the biggest issues is that the underlying system dynamics represented by a quantum stochastic differential equation must be known exactly in order that the corresponding filter provides an optimal performance; however, this assumption is generally unrealistic. Therefore, in this paper, we consider a class of linear quantum systems subjected to time-varying norm-bounded parametric uncertainties and then propose a robust observer such that the variance of the estimation error is guaranteed to be within a certain bound. Although in the linear case much of classical control theory can be applied to quantum systems, the quantum robust observer obtained in this paper does not have a classical analogue due to the system's specific structure with respect to the uncertainties. Moreover, by considering a typical quantum control problem, we show that the proposed robust observer is fairly robust against a parametric uncertainty of the system even when the other estimators--the optimal Kalman filter and risk-sensitive observer--fail in the estimation.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

Copyright © 2019 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication EngineersAnalog filter implementation of continuous wavelet transform is considered as a promising technique for on-line spike detection applied in wearable electroencephalogram system. This Letter proposes a novel method to construct analog wavelet base for analog wavelet filter design, in which the mathematical approximation model in frequency domain is built as an optimization problem and the genetic algorithm is used to find the global optimum resolution. Also, the Gm-C filter structure based on LC ladder simulation is employed to synthesize the obtained analog wavelet base. The Marr wavelet filter is designed as an example using SMIC 1V 0.35Όm CMOS technology. Simulation results show that the proposed method can give a stable analog wavelet filter with higher approximation accuracy and excellent circuit performance, which is well suited for the design of low-frequency low-power spike detector.Peer reviewe

Hardware prototyping and validation of a W-ΔDOR digital signal processor

Microwave tracking, usually performed by on ground processing of the signals coming from a spacecraft, represents a crucial aspect in every deep-space mission. Various noise sources, including receiver noise, affect these signals, limiting the accuracy of the radiometric measurements obtained from the radio link. There are several methods used for spacecraft tracking, including the Delta-Differential One-Way Ranging (ΔDOR) technique. In the past years, European Space Agency (ESA) missions relied on a narrowband ΔDOR system for navigation in the cruise phase. To limit the adverse effect of nonlinearities in the receiving chain, an innovative wideband approach to ΔDOR measurements has recently been proposed. This work presents the hardware implementation of a new version of the ESA X/Ka Deep Space Transponder based on the new tracking technique named Wideband ΔDOR (W-ΔDOR). The architecture of the new transponder guarantees backward compatibility with narrowband ΔDOR

On evolution of CMOS image sensors

CMOS Image Sensors have become the principal technology in majority of digital cameras. They started replacing the film and Charge Coupled Devices in the last decade with the promise of lower cost, lower power requirement, higher integration and the potential of focal plane processing. However, the principal factor behind their success has been the ability to utilise the shrinkage in CMOS technology to make smaller pixels, and thereby have more resolution without increasing the cost. With the market of image sensors exploding courtesy their inte- gration with communication and computation devices, technology developers improved the CMOS processes to have better optical performance. Nevertheless, the promises of focal plane processing as well as on-chip integration have not been fulfilled. The market is still being pushed by the desire of having higher number of pixels and better image quality, however, differentiation is being difficult for any image sensor manufacturer. In the paper, we will explore potential disruptive growth directions for CMOS Image sensors and ways to achieve the same

A Multi Antenna Receiver for Galileo SoL Applications

    Get PDF
One of the main features of the Galileo Satellite Navigation System is integrity. To ensure a reliable and robust navigation for Safety of Life applications, like CAT III aircraft landings, new receiver technologies are indispensable. Therefore, the German Aerospace Centre originated the development of a complete safety-of-life Galileo receiver to demonstrate the capabilities of new digital beam-forming and signal-processing algorithms for the detection and mitigation of interference. To take full advantage of those algorithms a carefully designed analogue signal processing is needed. The development addresses several challenging questions in the field of antenna design, frontend development and digital signal processing. The paper will give an insight in the activity and will present latest results
