    An Investigation into Ontology-Based Enhancement of Search Technologies for E-Government: Literature Review

    Services provided by E-government are no longer considered as a new topic, there is a continuous evolution of the level of services provided by the E-government that matches the development of the techniques and technologies used. The success or failure of E-government builds mainly on providing different services to citizens in a suitable and effective manner. This research study aims at providing an empirical and evaluation study of the effects and the opportunities of implementing various techniques in the development of E-government. The research focuses on the impact of using ontology technique on the success or failure of the services provided by E-government. The services provided to citizens are expanded from information extraction to vote, tax, and other services. It becomes necessary to provide a detail description of the most appropriate technologies in order to reach to a successful E-government which provides effective services

    Les évolutions permanentes du marché ont forcé la plupart des entreprises à se focaliser sur les processus liés à leur coeur de métier. Ce recentrage les conduit alors soit à externaliser certaines parties de leurs processus, soit former temporairement une association avec d autres partenaires. Ces scénarios de collaboration imposent plusieurs contraintes sur la conception et l organisation du système d information à fin de le rendre facilement adaptable pour suivre les changements au niveau d organisation. Pour que le système d information soit facilement adaptable il est possible de restructurer le système d information en respectant les principes de l urbanisation du système d information couplé par une architecture orienté service, toute fois, cette organisation conduit à des systèmes assez rigides ne donnant pas réellement les capacités d initier des processus collaboratifs. Or, la collaboration impose de prendre en compte les contraintes de sécurité car l approche traditionnelle d urbanisation ne prend pas en considération la possibilité de collaboration et forme des îlots de sécurité ce qui s oppose à la nature transversale de la sécurité. En plus,dans un modèle orienté services, les applications distribuées sur plusieurs site ont peu ou pas de visibilité en matière de l information nécessaires pour assurer la sécurité au nouveau globale. C est dans ce contexte que nous avons proposé d adopter une démarche d urbanisation d entreprise qui promeut une organisation transversale du système de production de l entreprise qui permet une construction incrémentale des processus collaboratifs. Nous sommes parvenus à spécifier un modèle de service industriel construit par regroupement de toutes les fonctions nécessaires autour de la fabrication du produit. Ensuite, nous nous somme proposé de construire un middleware supportant ces services industriels. Cela induit d ajouter un niveau sémantique capable de gérer les propriétés fonctionnelles et non fonctionnelles (qualité de service et sécurité) aux bus de services traditionnels (ESB). Dans le cadre du projet ANR SEMEUSE visant à doter un ESB Open source (PETALS) d un niveau sémantique, notre contribution a plus particulièrement portée sur la spécification et la mise en oeuvre des composants permettant d intégrer de manière contextuelle les politiques de sécuritéMarket evolution has lead most of the enterprise to focus on their core business while setting outsourcing and collaborative strategies to be able to propose the best product-service offers. This Collaborative Business environment challenges Information System (IS) re-organisation to set agile, reactive and interoperable IT supports. To fulfil these requirements, one can reorganise the information system according to the urbanisation paradigm. Coupled to Service Oriented Architecture, this approach provides interoperable information systems. Nevertheless, traditional urbanization strategies lead to a partitioned and rather rigid IS organization aligned on the company s functional structure, which hinders initiating collaborative production processes, since production process is transversal and bypasses all enterprise business areas. To overcome these limits, we propose to adopt a new urbanization strategy that combines the transversal production logic with a service orientation to allow incremental production process building, based on goals to be reached. Despite of the advantages of the collaboration, in the dynamic collaboration scenarios, lack of trust can be a braking force while developing collaborative strategies. To this end, we proposed to integrate security needs and constraints into the definitions of business processes, organizational structure and technical components. Hence, the architecture we propose to implement our enterprise urbanization approach is based on a service-oriented model. We extend the traditional IT service to capture semantics associated to the industrial activity so that an industrial service model is proposed. Then security requirements are added in this model to govern access to different interfaces in a composite service.     Extensible metadata management framework for personal data lake

    Common Internet users today are inundated with a deluge of diverse data being generated and siloed in a variety of digital services, applications, and a growing body of personal computing devices as we enter the era of the Internet of Things. Alongside potential privacy compromises, users are facing increasing difficulties in managing their data and are losing control over it. There appears to be a de facto agreement in business and scientific fields that there is critical new value and interesting insight that can be attained by users from analysing their own data, if only it can be freed from its silos and combined with other data in meaningful ways. This thesis takes the point of view that users should have an easy-to-use modern personal data management solution that enables them to centralise and efficiently manage their data by themselves, under their full control, for their best interests, with minimum time and efforts. In that direction, we describe the basic architecture of a management solution that is designed based on solid theoretical foundations and state of the art big data technologies. This solution (called Personal Data Lake - PDL) collects the data of a user from a plurality of heterogeneous personal data sources and stores it into a highly-scalable schema-less storage repository. To simplify the user-experience of PDL, we propose a novel extensible metadata management framework (MMF) that: (i) annotates heterogeneous data with rich lineage and semantic metadata, (ii) exploits the garnered metadata for automating data management workflows in PDL – with extensive focus on data integration, and (iii) facilitates the use and reuse of the stored data for various purposes by querying it on the metadata level either directly by the user or through third party personal analytics services. We first show how the proposed MMF is positioned in PDL architecture, and then describe its principal components. Specifically, we introduce a simple yet effective lineage manager for tracking the provenance of personal data in PDL. We then introduce an ontology-based data integration component called SemLinker which comprises two new algorithms; the first concerns generating graph-based representations to express the native schemas of (semi) structured personal data, and the second algorithm metamodels the extracted representations to a common extensible ontology. SemLinker outputs are utilised by MMF to generate user-tailored unified views that are optimised for querying heterogeneous personal data through low-level SPARQL or high-level SQL-like queries. Next, we introduce an unsupervised automatic keyphrase extraction algorithm called SemCluster that specialises in extracting thematically important keyphrases from unstructured data, and associating each keyphrase with ontological information drawn from an extensible WordNet-based ontology. SemCluster outputs serve as semantic metadata and are utilised by MMF to annotate unstructured contents in PDL, thus enabling various management functionalities such as relationship discovery and semantic search. Finally, we describe how MMF can be utilised to perform holistic integration of personal data and jointly querying it in native representations

    An MDE-based framework to support the development of Mixed Interactive Systems

    International audienceIn the domain of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), recent advances in sensors, communication technologies, miniaturization and computing capabilities have led to new and advanced forms of interaction. Among them, Mixed Interactive Systems (MIS), form a class of interactive systems that comprises augmented reality, tangible interfaces and ambient computing; MIS aim to take advantage of physical and digital worlds to promote a more transparent integration of interactive systems with the user's environment. Due to the constant change of technologies and the multiplicity of these interaction forms, specific development approaches have been developed. As a result, numerous taxonomies, frameworks, API and models have emerged, each one covering a specific and limited aspect of the development of MIS. To support a coherent use of these multiple development resources and contribute to the increasing popularity of MIS, we have developed a framework based on Model-Driven Engineering. The goal is to take advantage of Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) standards, methodology and tools to support the manipulation of complementary Domain Specific Languages (DSL), to organize and link the use of different design and implementation resources, and to ensure a rationalized implementation based on design choices. In this paper, we first summarize existing uses of MDE in HCI before focusing on five major benefits MDE can provide in a MIS development context. We then detail which MDE tools and resources support these benefits and thus form the pillars of the success of an MDE-based MIS development approach. Based on this analysis, we introduce our framework, called Guide-Me, and illustrate its use through a case study. This framework includes two design models. Model transformations are also included to link one model to another; as a result the frameworks coverage extends from the earliest design step to a software component-based prototyping platform. A toolset based on Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) that supports the use of the framework is also presented.     Knowledge-Based Techniques for Scholarly Data Access: Towards Automatic Curation

    Accessing up-to-date and quality scientific literature is a critical preliminary step in any research activity. Identifying relevant scholarly literature for the extents of a given task or application is, however a complex and time consuming activity. Despite the large number of tools developed over the years to support scholars in their literature surveying activity, such as Google Scholar, Microsoft Academic search, and others, the best way to access quality papers remains asking a domain expert who is actively involved in the field and knows research trends and directions. State of the art systems, in fact, either do not allow exploratory search activity, such as identifying the active research directions within a given topic, or do not offer proactive features, such as content recommendation, which are both critical to researchers. To overcome these limitations, we strongly advocate a paradigm shift in the development of scholarly data access tools: moving from traditional information retrieval and filtering tools towards automated agents able to make sense of the textual content of published papers and therefore monitor the state of the art. Building such a system is however a complex task that implies tackling non trivial problems in the fields of Natural Language Processing, Big Data Analysis, User Modelling, and Information Filtering.
