Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Industrial Design, Izmir, 1999Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 157-162)Text in English, Abstract: Turkish and Englishxii, 194 leavesIn this thesis, computer aided design systems are studied from the industrial designer's point of view. The study includes industrial design processes, computer aided design systems and the integration aspects. The technical issues are priorly studied, including current hardware and software technologies. The pure technical concepts are tried to be supported with real-world examples and graphics. Several important design software are examined, whether by personal practice or by literature research, depending on the availability of the software. Finally, the thesis include a case study, a 17" LCD computer monitor designed with a set of graphic programs including two-dimensional and three-dimensional packages. Keywords: Computers, industrial design methods, design software, computer aided design

Effect of PAO-based Îł-Fe2O3 and surfactant concentration on viscosity characteristic

    Get PDF
This is a preliminary study on the viscosity characteristics of polyalphaolefin (PAO)- based Îł-Fe2O3 under zero magnetic fields. By varying the concentration of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), PAO-based Îł-Fe2O3 with different concentrations were synthesized by co-precipitation method. The effect of this factor on the viscosity characteristic of Îł-Fe2O3 (< 30 nm) was investigated on the basic of a series of rheological measurement. The use of oleic acid (OA) as a coating agent and surfactant was also investigated by varying its concentration. The results show the concentration of MNPs and the amount of OA has obvious effect on viscosity characteristics of PAO-based Îł-Fe2O3. In the case of comparison between the concentrations of MNPs, higher concentration of MNPs increased the viscosity of the PAO-based Îł-Fe2O3 and exhibit nearly Newtonian behavior. The large amount of OA also exhibits the increment on viscosity characteristic of MNPs. The experimental data were compared with the Bingham and Casson model and the results revealed that the rheology of the polyalphaolefin (PAO)-based Îł-Fe2O3 fitted the Casson model better

Goods and services tax (GST) on construction capital cost and housing property price

Good and Service Tax (GST) an indirect broad-based conswnpti.on tax. Following with the implementation of GST in Malaysia on 1st April 2015, it is suspected that the construction capital cost and housing property price will increase accordingly. This study is aim to review the GST effect associated on construction capital cost and it influences towards housing developer and housing property price. Additionally, this study highlights what was the developer point of view on the GST given to them and also the housing price further proposes initiatives to the housing developers. Argument of GST effect is useful for the public administrators so that to re-consider the rate of GST and also beneficial to the construction parties to account with the GST implementation. As conclusion, this study review that GST do give an impact towards the construction capital cost, housing developer and housing property price in terms of knock-on effect

Using Patran and Supertab as pre- and postprocessors to COSMIC/NASTRAN

    Get PDF
Patran and Supertab are interactive computer graphics pre- and postprocessors that can be used to generate NASTRAN bulk data decks and to visualize results from a NASTRAN analysis. Both of the programs are in use at the Numerical Structural Mechanics Branch of the David Taylor Research Center (DTRC). Various aspects of Patran and Supertab are discussed including: geometry modeling, finite element mesh generation, bulk data deck creation, results translation and visualization, and the user interface. Some advantages and disadvantages of both programs will be pointed out

    Transient upsets in microprocessor controllers

    Get PDF
The modeling and analysis of transient faults in microprocessor based controllers are discussed. Such controllers typically consist of a microprocessor, read only memory storing and application program, random access memory for data storage, and input/output devices for external communications. The effects of transient faults on the performance of the controller are reviewed. An instruction level perspective of performance is taken which is the basis of a useful high level program state description of the microprocessor controller. A transition matrix is defined which determines the controller's response to transient fault arrivals

A design-with-features approach for rotational machined components

    Get PDF
A major problem in integrating Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) arises from the difference in thinking between the design and manufacturing people. Designers think of designing a new product in terms of its intended function whereas manufacturing engineers think in terms of decomposing a product design into a set of manufacturing operations. Feature Recognition and Designing with Features have been recognised as alternative approaches to the integration of design and manufacturing functions. In this thesis the second approach has been investigated by developing a feature-based front-end to a CAD solid modeller. This produces the geometric representation of the component in terms of manufacturing features and processes, and simultaneously captures this information in a form suitable for an outline process plan.
