    A Proposed Selection Process in Over-The-Top Project Portfolio Management

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to propose an over-the-top (OTT) initiative selection process for communication service providers (CSPs) entering an OTT business. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve this objective, a literature review was conducted to comprehend the past and current practices of the project (or initiative) selection process as mainly suggested in project portfolio management (PPM). This literature was compared with specific situations and the needs of CSPs when constructing an OTT portfolio. Based on the contrast between the conventional project selection process and specific OTT characteristics, a different selection process is developed and tested using group model-building (GMB), which involved an in-depth interview, a questionnaire and a focus group discussion (FGD). Findings: The paper recommends five distinct steps for CSPs to construct an OTT initiative portfolio: candidate list of OTT initiatives, interdependency diagram, evaluation of all interdependent OTT initiatives, evaluation of all non-interdependent OTT initiatives and optimal portfolio of OTT initiatives. Research limitations/implications: The research is empirical, and various OTT services are implemented; the conclusion is derived only from one CSP, which operates as a group. Generalization of this approach will require further empirical tests on different CSPs, OTT players or any firms performing portfolio selection with a degree of interdependency among the projects. Practical implications: Having considered interdependency, the proposed OTT initiative selection steps can be further implemented by portfolio managers for more effective OTT initiative portfolio construction. Originality/value: While the previous literature and common practices suggest ensuring the benefits (mainly financial) of individual projects, this research accords higher priority to the success of the overall OTT initiative portfolio and recommends that an evaluation of the overall portfolio should occur prior to individual evaluation. Consequently, certain initiatives may not provide direct individual benefits. Those initiatives should remain within the portfolio because they are needed for the success of other initiatives.Peer Reviewe

    Strategic Themes for Balanced Scorecard Construction Based on Fuzzy Logic

    Balanced Scorecard is a methodology for strategic management with emphasis in strategic, tactic, and operational control. If you don’t measure something, you don’t manage it. Last statement is a way to emphasizes one of the most important assumptions of this methodology that is very well implemented by it. However, BSC can’t express strategy in actions, nor translate verbalization of strategic planning, important topics to build an effective Balance Scorecard. This paper defines priorities of topics about strategic planning considering the SWOT analysis - strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats – (Andrews, 1971). SWOT analysis is completed considering actions and objectives through Fuzzy Logic theory. The Fuzzy Logic based methodology is an intelligent information system expressed by Espin and Vanti (2005) and completed by Espin, Becker and Vanti (2005). The system, expressed by mathematic formulas, is based in Complexity Theory principles with emphasis in non linearity and is applied here to the tourism industry (a travel agency)

    The managers of information age companies cannot rely merely on data derived from past activities of the company and focus on improving existing processes. They need a frame for measuring values that result from strategic goals of the company, a tool, which is focusing on obtaining information about company's current success, as well as finding new driving forces to ensure the future competitiveness of the company. Strategic business performance measurement system the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a suitable tool for improving the competitiveness of industrial companies. During its implementation, however, there is a conflict of perception of the importance of individual goals and measurable characteristics in partial perspectives of the BSC and its actual enforcement of the various strategic objectives in companies. The aim of this article is to verify the accuracy of BSC settings in an environment of selected companies in the Moravian-Silesian region with the emphasis placed on mining companies with the help of multidimensional statistics - factor analysis.     Information Technology Project Prioritization

    This thesis provides a contemporary review of several topics related to information technology project prioritization, which will help managers create their own custom methodology. Traditional prioritization tools such as weighted average scoring models are used for simultaneous comparison of a number of proposed projects on multiple dimensions, to facilitate alignment with organization goals. These methods are used for the analysis of information related to the weight preferences over criteria used. If used correctly with this procedure, it is possible to bring forward an authentic figure of merit, which is used as the projects strategic potential. This allows the projects to be ranked and the highest-ranking projects to be considered for selection. Visual tools can then be used for selection of optimum project portfolio. The literature dedicates less time on tools beyond the selection of projects. This study aims to bridge this gap by proposing a final phase of project prioritization as Project Portfolio Management

    According to exiting literature, most change programs fail to manage and/or meet the expectations of stakeholders; leading to the failure of larger strategic organisational and transformational initiatives. Undoubtedly, change management necessitates introspective planning and responsive implementation but a failure to acknowledge and manage the external stakeholder environment will undermine these efforts. This article presents some practical frameworks for managing the delivery of change that were used collectively in different situations and contributed to the successful implementation of change programs. It does not recommend any specific approach to yield successful outcomes, but it considers a range of approaches for practitioners to take into account to assure seamless integration of programs with the formulation of overall strategy and implementation planning.     Project portfolio selection for increasing sustainability in supply chains

Enterprises need approaches that both support the implementation of these practices by helping to define the strategic elements of sustainable supply chains and prioritize projects to increase profitability. The purpose of this paper is to propose an approach using the Analytic Hierarchy Process that supports the portfolio project decision by aligning the project selection process to the strategic objectives of a supply chain that pursue sustainability. This approach will benefit enterprises to prioritize projects that have the highest impact on the sustainability strategy of the supply chain over time.     Using the balanced scorecard scale in building, a four-track measurement model to predict the intellectual capital of industrial stockholder companies listed on the Amman stock exchange for the period (2016–2020)

    The goal of this study was to investigate the use of the balanced scorecard scale in the development of a four-track measuring model to estimate the intellectual capital of industrial joint stock businesses listed on the Amman Stock Exchange. The sample for this study is made up of 59 industrial public joint stock businesses registered on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) between 2016 and 2020. A multiple linear regression analysis using EVIEWS software and the findings suggest that the balanced scorecard has a favourable influence on intellectual capital from the financial, customer, internal-business-process, learning, and growth perspectives. According to the study, make suggestions based on the results of our inquiry to increase the intellectual capital of these companies. This might involve revising the company's human capital management methods, strengthening customer relationships, or concentrating more on innovation and learning. The current study is the first of its kind to be conducted in a developing nation, such as Jordan, and the findings might be useful to other underdeveloped nations

    The necessity of design and implementation of performance evaluation systems for project-based research and development (R&D) centers is one of the crucial issues in all countries. The purpose of this paper is to provide an integrated performance evaluation method for research and development institutes. The proposed approach is a synthesis of BSC, AHP and network DEA appropriate for engineering departments and units of these organizations. Defining Indexes as input and output, regarding different features of BSC and prioritizing them based on expert judgment, to calculate unites and sub-unit's efficiency of these organizations, network DEA will be applied.  Research and Development institutes, usually, are conglomeration of divergent administration unites and research sub-units, which could be considered as sub Decision Making Unites (sub-DMU) in this efficiency measurement model. Obtained results through this suggested integrated approach indicates its strength in the performance evaluation of R&D centers, moreover, its compatibility to be applied in all the research-oriented organizations
