    The Impact of Radio Frequency Identification Detection in Cellular Networks

    Radio Frequency Identification Detection technology (RFID) is a convenient and automatic instrument of identification and detection. It’s application can be extended to cellular network. Cellular network is a form of radio technology that makes used of radio waves for its functionality. It major goal is to cover a larger geographical area without the use of cables. It has been observed that cellular radio failures in base station has not being given due attention by researchers in terms of improving quality of service. The failure of cellular radios can hindered or suspend easy exchange of calls between users and could sometime lead to distorted billing from the operator’s end. This study takes a look on some current studies in RFID while the major aim was focused on the need to enhance cellular network performance through the using RFID technique. An analytical method was employed through the use of a mathematical model to demonstrate how RFID readers can be used to monitor tagged cellular radios with a given region.     Classification model and analysis on students’ performance

    The purpose of this paper is to propose a classification model for classifying students’performance in SijilPelajaran Malaysia in order to help teachers plan suitable teachingactivities for their students based on the students’ performance. Five classifier algorithms have been used during the process which are Naïve Bayes, Random Tree, Multi Class Classifier, Conjunctive Rule and Nearest Neighbour. Data was collected from MaktabRendahSains MARA Kuala Berang, Terengganu, Malaysia starting May 2011 until December 2014. The students’ performance was evaluated based on the category of students according to their SPM Results. Parameters that contribute to students’ performance such as stream, state, gender and hometown are also investigated along with the examination data.This research shows that first semester results can be used to identify students’ performance.Keywords: educational data mining; classification model; feature selection

    Industry 4.0 and the circular economy : melioration of business logistics sustainability

    Abstract: Mining and mineral resources help provide the requirements of everyday life by contributing to essential products and services. In the era of fourth industrial revolution, the trend in logistics is toward a smart logistics system. Therefore, it becomes important to understand how Industry 4.0 enablers effect smart logistics, i.e., instrumented logistics, interconnected logistics, and intelligent logistics. This study investigates how Industry 4.0 logistics technologies influence dynamic remanufacturing and green manufacturing capability and, the effect on business logistics sustainability. Survey data were collected from 150 respondents using an online survey of South African executives in firms operating mines, quarries, and processing plants. Partial Least Squares based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the hypotheses. The findings indicate that Industry 4.0 enablers have a strong effect on intelligent logistics compared to its effect on interconnected logistics and instrumented logistics. The effect of intelligent logistics are found to be very high compared to that of interconnected logistics and instrumented logistics on dynamic remanufacturing and green manufacturing capability. Finally, dynamic remanufacturing and green manufacturing capability are found to positively influence business logistics sustainability

    An agent approach to improving radio frequency identification enabled Returnable Transport Equipment

    Returnable transport equipment (RTE) such as pallets form an integral part of the supply chain and poor management leads to costly losses. Companies often address this matter by outsourcing the management of RTE to logistics service providers (LSPs). LSPs are faced with the task to provide logistical expertise to reduce RTE related waste, whilst differentiating their own services to remain competitive. In the current challenging economic climate, the role of the LSP to deliver innovative ways to achieve competitive advantage has never been so important. It is reported that radio frequency identification (RFID) application to RTE enables LSPs such as DHL to gain competitive advantage and offer clients improvements such as loss reduction, process efficiency improvement and effective security. However, the increased visibility and functionality of RFID enabled RTE requires further investigation in regards to decision‐making. The distributed nature of the RTE network favours a decentralised decision‐making format. Agents are an effective way to represent objects from the bottom‐up, capturing the behaviour and enabling localised decision‐making. Therefore, an agent based system is proposed to represent the RTE network and utilise the visibility and data gathered from RFID tags. Two types of agents are developed in order to represent the trucks and RTE, which have bespoke rules and algorithms in order to facilitate negotiations. The aim is to create schedules, which integrate RTE pick‐ups as the trucks go back to the depot. The findings assert that: - agent based modelling provides an autonomous tool, which is effective in modelling RFID enabled RTE in a decentralised utilising the real‐time data facility. ‐ the RFID enabled RTE model developed enables autonomous agent interaction, which leads to a feasible schedule integrating both forward and reverse flows for each RTE batch. ‐ the RTE agent scheduling algorithm developed promotes the utilisation of RTE by including an automatic return flow for each batch of RTE, whilst considering the fleet costs andutilisation rates. ‐ the research conducted contributes an agent based platform, which LSPs can use in order to assess the most appropriate strategies to implement for RTE network improvement for each of their clients

    Food Supply Chain through Ongoing Evolution: Lessons from Continuous Transformations

    Considering their constant evolution and transformation, in this Special Issue, several authors provide contributions bringing light to different aspects related to food supply chains, based on several conceptual frameworks, agri-food areas and contexts, as well as multiple levels of analysis. In this book, the promotion of win–win investments in Brazil’s Agribusiness is discussed, as well as how family farmers can thrive in commodity markets in long agribusiness supply chains. The Logic of Collective Action for Rural Warehouse Condominiums, which is a new configuration in the agribusiness supply chain, is also addressed. In this book, the Brazilian Jabuticaba Supply Chain is analyzed through a multi-methodological approach. The role of logistics in food-waste reduction for wholesalers and small retailers of fruits and vegetables is also presented. The issue of transparency in global agribusiness in the Brazilian soybean supply chain is discussed based on companies’ accountability.
