PROGRAMS WITH DATA MINING CAPABILITIES
The fact that the Internet has become a commodity in the world has created a framework for anew economy. Traditional businesses migrate to this new environment that offers many features and options atrelatively low prices. However competitiveness is fierce and successful Internet business is tied to rigorous use of allavailable information. The information is often hidden in data and for their retrieval is necessary to use softwarecapable of applying data mining algorithms and techniques. In this paper we want to review some of the programswith data mining capabilities currently available in this area.We also propose some classifications of this softwareto assist those who wish to use such software
The application of user log for online business environment using content-based Image retrieval system
Over the past few years, inter-query learning has gained much attention in the research and development of content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems. This is largely due to the capability of inter-query approach to enable learning from the retrieval patterns of previous query sessions. However, much of the research works in this field have been focusing on analyzing image retrieval patterns stored in the database. This is not suitable for a dynamic environment such as the World Wide Web (WWW) where images are constantly added or removed. A better alternative is to use an image's visual features to capture the knowledge gained from the previous query sessions. Based on the previous work (Chung et al., 2006), the aim of this paper is to propose a framework of inter-query learning for the WWW-CBIR systems. Such framework can be extremely useful for those online companies whose core business involves providing multimedia content-based services and products to their customers
DiSECCS Work Package 5 : seismic analysis toolbox
The DiSECCS seismic analysis toolbox comprises a series of codes which implement various
algorithms for analysing post-stack seismic data acquired as part of a geological carbon
sequestration monitoring programme. The tools focus on determining the thickness, saturation
distribution and physical properties of CO2 layers imaged on seismic data and are described in
detail within this document. A number of new rock physics models have also been developed as
part of the DiSECCS project and these are included in the toolbox as a series of Mathematica
notebooks
Histogram of gradients of Time-Frequency Representations for Audio scene detection
This paper addresses the problem of audio scenes classification and
contributes to the state of the art by proposing a novel feature. We build this
feature by considering histogram of gradients (HOG) of time-frequency
representation of an audio scene. Contrarily to classical audio features like
MFCC, we make the hypothesis that histogram of gradients are able to encode
some relevant informations in a time-frequency {representation:} namely, the
local direction of variation (in time and frequency) of the signal spectral
power. In addition, in order to gain more invariance and robustness, histogram
of gradients are locally pooled. We have evaluated the relevance of {the novel
feature} by comparing its performances with state-of-the-art competitors, on
several datasets, including a novel one that we provide, as part of our
contribution. This dataset, that we make publicly available, involves
classes and contains about minutes of audio scene recording. We thus
believe that it may be the next standard dataset for evaluating audio scene
classification algorithms. Our comparison results clearly show that our
HOG-based features outperform its competitor

perm mateda: A matlab toolbox of estimation of distribution algorithms for permutation-based combinatorial optimization problems
Permutation problems are combinatorial optimization problems whose solutions are naturally codified as permutations. Due to their complexity, motivated principally by the factorial cardinality of the search space of solutions, they have been a recurrent topic for the artificial intelligence and operations research community. Recently, among the vast number of metaheuristic algorithms, new advances on estimation of distribution algorithms (EDAs) have shown outstanding performance when solving some permutation problems. These novel EDAs implement distance-based exponential probability models such as the Mallows and Generalized Mallows models. In this paper, we present a Matlab package, perm mateda, for estimation of distribution algorithms on permutation problems, which has been implemented as an extension to the Mateda-2.0 toolbox of EDAs. Particularly, we provide implementations of the Mallows and Generalized Mallows EDAs under the Kendall’s-τ, Cayley, and Ulam distances. In addition, four classical permutation problems have been also implemented: Traveling Salesman Problem, Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem, Linear Ordering Problem, and Quadratic Assignment Problem
